Question on Nora Night

Konzu speaks like a western Native American.

Baro speaks like an aristocrat.

Eudico has an Australian accent.

Little Duck? London hard accent.

Darvo speaks with a European accent.

Nora speaks with an east coast African American accent.

That aside, we haven't been introduced to her story yet. The fact you don't like the WAY she speaks and you can it "sassy" is interesting.

Konzu and the entirety of Cetus speak in a way that make sense to the setting and context. These people have lived there for I think thousands of years. They look pretty homogenized, being some shades of brown/tan, with wide facial features and large eyes. That, combined with the effort DE put in writing the lore and backstory of Cetus and its culture, gives you a pretty good feeling of "this makes sense, it's well grounded in the world", even if its existence is relatively recent, even conceptually.

"Aristrocrat" isn't an accent, but it still makes sense in the world. No one's first thought when he was first introduced was "This guy's manner of speaking is completely different." because it felt natural

The denizens of Fortuna are another issue in the world building, more of DE adding things that they thought would be cool and brand new. They at least contextualized it basically by the logic of "they'll have dirty-English/Aussie accents because it works well with 'space chain gang'.", but that's about it. A lot less world building went into the people of Fortuna, more around the Orb Vallis as a location itself.

Darvo on the other hand sounds pretty natural in the context that he is a Corpus. Their tongue speaks very roughly, and so does his voice. Throaty. His father, Frohd Bek, at least has the excuse of a rebuilt larynx for his even throatier, odd voice.

Like I said, my problem is currently Nora's lack of contextualization. East coast African American is not at all an accent I think fits into the game, yet. Not even American in general. The Orokin we've heard don't speak like that, the Corpus and Grineer don't speak like that even when they're speaking English. Cetus has its accent explained, Fortuna's is loose but at least there. The closest voice to that sounds neutral (to my American ears) would be what'sherface from the Myconian colony, the girl in that quest. But I always chalk that one up to DE using in-house voice talent, which can be hit or miss.

When they give Nora more story, I'll be happier.

And yeah, I call it sassy because apparently that's the only thing developers want black women voices to go for. You're telling me Nora "Mmmhmmm, the one and future BAAAADAAAAASSS" Night isn't going for sassy?

At this point I don't even understand the point of this argument... She's lacking context, that's true, maybe because of laziness, maybe they wanted Nora to be mysterious, whatever.

But please, don't begin to argue whose accent is right or not. Given how far in the future these events take place, neither of the characters should speak the English language we use right now. Even the Tenno shouldn't be able to understand anyone after waking up from their long sleep. Linguistical accuracy clearly wasn't the point when the Warframe universe has been created, but this isn't a bad thing, it's the most simple and player friendly solution actually.

Well no, she's lacking context because they wanted to make a character purely as a movie reference. Pretty sure they did that once before, when they named Gara that because it appealed to anime fans despite there being far more popular names being thrown around. I saw that floating around somewhere, though I never paid attention to it much myself.

Obviously everyone speaks English because it's a video game and it's easy to do that, but just because the game takes place in far future doesn't mean English wouldn't exist. It can be excused as being just a universal language that lets us understand, perhaps a remnant of the Orokin empire's rule. Besides that, the Grineer and Corpus do have their own spoken/written language, which covers your "the Tenno wouldn't be able to understand anyone after such a long sleep" point. If English is the representative for an in-universe common language, Grineer and Corpus languages are still their own that we'd have to learn if we wanted to understand, which works both for us as players and for our Tenno ingame.

It still doesn't excuse the stupidity behind adding movie references because "lol it'd be cool" when it doesn't make any sense. Nora is purely nothing but a Warriors movie reference right now, she's barely a reasonable in-universe character beyond that. It's not just about "linguistic accuracy", it's trying to avoid S#&$ty/lazy world building when you've already put in the effort of trying to do the opposite of that for seven years.

I just don't get you guys sometimes.

They're speaking the language we know, period.

That said, Nora is a new character that represents an unknown part of warframe that will be revealed later. She should not be familiar or like the current characters because DE has a heck of a lot more lore to unveil. I trust THEM to continue this amazing story.

In regards to "sassy", she's a radio host. She has lines that reflect that. The line you mentioned is the only "sassy" line she has. She also has a motherly tone, a diva tone, a therapist tone and a socialist tone. Again, she's providing intel through a network for the tenno and providing support. Her character makes sense.

All I can say is that if DE thinks that Nora of the Annoying Accent (nothing personal... it's just I'm from the UK and that particular accent grates uncomfortably on my ears) is any sort of replacement for space-mom they're sorely mistaken. I can accept (barely) that the story they're telling requires space-mom to go bad. But if Nora's intended to be her replacement... well... I'm not going to do that stupid "i quitz 4eva" nonsense but.... I IZ DISAPPOINT!

Dude... The way you write irritates me more than the way Nora talks 😂
