I'm not sure how but sometimes when hosts change there is a chance you can lose access to:

Your Warframe

Your Operator

or both ???

I noticed this happening in an endless mission as I was stuck in operator, when the operator died I didn't go down or into the Warframe as you would expect. My avatar disappeared completely but I could still move as if in operator form. I could not jump or run but I could still slide as a floating camera. 

 

Other times I've lost access to the operator form. This can happen regardless of who is host I think.
