For the love of God, get rid of PoE Cave Caches

Searching for Cave caches sucks SO bad.

When I'm solo, it kills me trying to find those stupid things.  The chime is too soft, with too short of range for a three dimensional search.

When I'm playing with a team, half of them stay up top in spite of chat messages, while the rest of us struggle trying to find them.

It's great that the circle closes.  But it doesn't do it quick enough.  It should at least be like the hive maps where the circle constricts with each cache found (i.e. node destroyed).

Now, I'm sure a bunch of you wish to flex right now, so please reply back saying "I never have any problem. I'm awesome at finding them.".   Flex away.  And I will respond with "Gosh, you're awesome."

But I am sick and tired of seeing my chances at getting relics ruined because I have to go into the god awful caves and look for boxes.

Please please please, do away with caves caches.  In fact, do away with them altogether.  They take a long time to get in, a long time to get out, and they suck the whole time I'm in them.

Sincerely,

triggered_redux

Are you not using any form of loot radar?  Most people I know use animal instinct (if not the prime version) and it allows you to find them easily without sound (since I have my own music playing at all times).  Outside of that I think it just comes down to knowledge.  If the circle closed quickly then there'd be no point to trying to find them and people would just wait for it to show them exactly where it is which would result in a game mode further devoid of interaction.

Idiots are going to be idiots, that's a problem with people not the game mode.

If you mean that big cave then yes, I hate it. Even with loot radar and animal instinct I usually fail because the cave is so big and complex. If I haven't found at least one cache by the timer gets to half-way I bail.

Nope, I play almost exclusively solo and it is always 3. I think I have completed only one in that cave.

Eh, I solve that by using a loot mod (P Animal Instinct ftw) and headphones. You just have to see the thing on the radar and then listen from where the sound comes from. I have no issues with them, and after much practice they are pretty easy. But I must concede that they are significantly more complex than the surface ones for someone doing them the first few times before memorizing the possible spawn locations.

Wait, there is a chime? I should probably play with sounds sometime.

Anyways, when i was still doing bounties, i just memorised their locations with loot radar, they always spawn at the same places making it a quick 0.5-1 minute bounty stage, making bounties just a little less of an unrewarding, long, boring grind.

Would you rather have a 7-20+ minutes long 'escort the malfunctioning drone that goes at snail's pace and gets stuck on textures' sort of mission instead?

Loot radar caps at 10m in height regardless of mods. There are certain cache spots in caves which cause them to be invisible unless you are constantly jumping with sound at max.

No..... I'm fine with 3 caches that means more rewards

The cache rewards suck.  Do you really laugh and giggle when you open them and get more nistlepod?

Here's my item rewards after finding two of three caches:

30 Nistlepod (farmed most of that myself)

12 Iradite (farmed some)

1 Grokdrul

174 Circuits

662 Ferrite

3 Detonite Ampule

The cache rewards suck.

I agree with the original comment.  One person, one cache.  Or more time.

Against my better judgement, I tried again tonight.  Failed  The first chime took way to long to find.  It was a secret passage under some stairs.  I tried left.  I tried right.  I tried above.  I tried below.  I tried the first hidden passage I found.  Finally found the passage under the stairs.

Do you see the problem?  Above ground, I home in on the chime.  Below ground, I hear and chime, and then it's a puzzle.  Also, I suck at running and jumping.  So as I'm racing against the clock, I'll fall.  When I fall far, I have to trek across to a ramp that takes me to a bridge, run across the bridge, find my jump point, get back up to my level, then continue looking.  There goes 20 seconds.

Also, would you please, for the love of God, put "CAVES" in the description when they're in the caves?  This last one said nothing about caves.  NOTHING.  So I land and start sprinting the perimeter.  After a minute, I realize there's no timer.  So then I head to the top at the center of a camp, find a cave and drop down.  Pissed off at that point to realize I have to descend into a cave.

Some suggestions:

1. Just get rid of them.  Caves suck.  No one has ever said "I live caves" except those kiss-butts that hope to curry favor with [DE]Megan cause they're in love with her.  But even those guys will admit when they're alone -- the caves suck.  Bad.  They're fun to mine.  They absolutely suck during bounties.

2. At least label them ALWAYS when you want us to splunk.

3. Give us more time.  3 minutes is not enough.  Even shrinking the circle doesn't help much.

4. Balance it out for solo play (someone else suggested it -- love the idea).  Other examples of solo balancing:

  • When I'm defending a liberated camp, the drop ships only contain 3 enemies during solo.
  • Less attacks when escorting a drone.

Why are caches still the same as a full team?

I appreciate you hearing my frustration, for I am truly frustrated.  I love this game, but I hate cave caches.

Thanks.

You can just equip a scanner. I know I don’t hear the chime half the time, but if you have the scanner then you can see any cache within...30m? 25? It’s a decent range and you only have to shuffle around for a minute or two.

There are a lot of help things.  Scanning helps.  I should do it more in the caves.  It would be more useful if DE would fix the blasted scanner bug so I could melee and still use the scanner instead of it switching back to my weapon.  But you have a great suggestion.  When I hear a chime in the caves, I should stop and scan.

I always equip a loot finder mod on my companion, and often on my frame as well.  That also helps.  It's a tremendous help above ground.  But again, in the caves, There's often 6 loot markings above, level, and below me.

Appreciate the advice.

I am using a loot radar.  Thank you for the suggestion.  But in the caves, it can just lead to more confusion.  I'll get three loot markings.  I drop down to investigate one and it's grokdrul.  Then I go back up to my level and it's iradite.  Finally I work my way around to the top level to find a cache.  The navigation of the caves takes too much time.   It's like running syndicate missions ... the grineer are very linear to finding medallions is really easy.  The corpus (outside of europa) are more difficult because many of the maps are multi-level and 3 levels of loot will show on the radar.  Yes yes, there are arrows.  But 20 markings are still 20 markings.   It takes time in syndicate missions, but it's easily done.  But in a cave with a timer going ...

Honestly never had trouble with finding the cave caches.

The one thing I do however absolutely dislike is the fact that the game doesn't also mark the entrance of the cave which can be a significant distance from the actual site. So usually there is IMHO way too much time spent figuring out why the mission isn't starting before the "Oh yeah caves are a thing that still exist" kicks in. Followed by "OK now where the F* does the game expect us to go, there are like three entrances about 400m away from the marker?"...

Failed another bounty.  Two man team. Found 2 of the caches.  Could not find the third.   This is so broken.  Memo to me:  Never ever do "Weaken the Grineer" bounty.  Cause that's multiple caches and one of them is in a cave of wonder.  As in, I wonder why the hell I only have 3 minutes to do this stupid mission.

Now I'm pissed off and I'm gonna go play something else.

Fix this.

Failed another bounty.  Four man team. Found the first two immediately.  With 2:45 seconds, we located the last chime.  Scanned, saw nothing.  Nothing on the loot radar.

4 players searched for 150 seconds and could not locate it.  The circle closed around where we were, so we new the chime was spot on.  I remain convinced that the stupid cache was not visible, or in a wall, or something utterly ... FRUSTRATING.

Mission failed.   Why is this a thing?  Why????

FIX THIS BOUNTY.
