If the ship was big enough to house the necessary shielding equipment, it wouldnt be an issue but alas.

Hmm dont know that game, but i see why though i will do the yolo anyway.

for the empire and rebellion if they entered a asteroid field with anything bigger then a their corvette classed ships they would take slow DOT to both hull hard points and shields not even to break the bank but enough to make you feel the cost of taking the direct path then the go around it path. But if you sit in them or behind it you have defense from larger ships who have to go around giving you an advantage of taking shots at them with artillery ranged ships in retaliative safety and corvettes and fighters can hide in them for defensive ambushes.

Nebula fields are kinda the same way but they can hide ANYTHING be it the fleet for the death star (the death star's unit is a whole fleet of ships) to a lone fighter if it fits its hidden cost how ever it wreaks your shields so you come out vulnerable and it disables any special ability that unit has until it leaves best used for hiding ships that dont really need shields or have very little or mass fighters as most dont have shields at all but you can shoot out and remain unseen so you can store artillery ships in their they can pop shots until something flies in the nebula and sees them

The Zann consortium how ever do not take damage from asteroid fields (in-game claimed by them having special shield generators) and thus allows them to hide in asteroid fields with any sized ship and well they got some big ships like the Aggressor class star destroyer the artillery ship that just a flying gun the entire top and bottom front part is a proton and ion cannon is a mean SOB that can self destruct as a last laugh

Nice, it kinda reminds me of Star Trek Armada. Asteroids field coulndt be passed through, but can shoot through them. Then there where different kinds of nebulas and one them does a very similar thing to what you described (removed shields and you can fire out but not in, only with forced attack with artillery support ships because of splash damage).

If that game is anything like Star Trek Armada or Command & Conquer Frontier Wars, I have to get it. Just troublesome to get older games working.
