Optimizing Soma Prime modding

Question

Hello, I'm fairly new and need some advice for modding my soma prime. I just copied the build I found in the wiki but I'm not very happy with it. It seems to lack the extra "punch" https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/User:Solcarius/Soma_Prime_DPS_Build  //  https://prnt.sc/oe3xtx

I also watched this video: https://youtu.be/S4wAqMnZYYY?t=13m11s  and want to do a slash / crit build, which he said seems to be the best empowering somas natural slash and crit. I asked around and people seem to believe what he said. But I'd like to use heavy caliber and a riven mod ( this one https://prnt.sc/oe3zym    ) but I have no idea how to build that. Maybe swap Split chamber with the riven mod? Which mods would you replace to get the most out of the slash build in the video?

Yeah that build from the wiki isnt too great. I mean then again everyone prefers their own builds so I am not gonna judge. What build works for me most is this -

[Serration] [Split Chamber] [Point Strike] [Vital Sense] [Vigilante Armaments] [Hunter Munitions] [Malignant Force] [High Voltage] (you can replace High Voltage with Rime Rounds for viral, but I've personally found Corrosive to work better)

As for your riven, I would roll it a bit more and see if you can get critical chance or critical damage or damage/multishot. The one you have is decent, but Slash is useless on Soma because its already slash dominant (slash is highest type of base damage). Multishot is good and status duration is kinda ok.. so the stats are average. You can get better. For the moment its usable though. You can replace Split Chamber in the build I listed above for the riven.

I’d recommend pure hunter munitions with serration split chamber point strike vital sense hunter munitions vigilante armaments, and a bane mod that you swap out for each faction. The last slot is pure preference, like shred. Or the riven.

Modding for corrosive, which strips armor, and hunter munitions, which bypasses armor, defeats the points of both builds. @Arkennstar

That works as well.. I would recommend [Vigilante Fervor] for the last slot in that build.

Anyways, I use Corrosive personally because even though Soma Prime procs a lot of slash procs, due to its low base damage, its hard to rely on them entirely to take out high level enemies because the slash procs themselves don't do very high damage per tick. So corrosive build works as it normally would on any other weapon and the slash procs just add to the dps. 

Atleast corrosive + HM works better in my simulacrum testing when compared to viral + HM or pure Slash + HM...

Well.... thatz a Radiation Build... its literally only going to be effective against Bombards and the occasional Bursa....Radiation is so bad for everything...

Yep.... the viral + Hunter Munitions build is alot better.... BUT !!!! Its recommended that you only do this if you have Primed Bane Mods to increase the damage of your Slash Procs...

I have a bunch of builds running Slash procs...  right now the damage is the same as modding For Elements simply because it turns out only a 3rd of your Base damage over time isn't alot.... even with Heavy calibre and Vigorous Swap....

5 must have mods for Soma serr, Hunter muni, point strik, vital sens, spli cham.

Last 3 mod you can do viral and bane mod or riven. Some people use argon scope and bladed round with primed cryo or riven with element.

Yea, double dips on Bleeds is pretty strong. Almost makes Soma look like a good weapon.

I recall my old Soma build I used against heavy armor back in the day before Hunters was 90% + 60/60x2 Corrosive with Hammer Shot. Yea... I said Hammer Shot. One of the few cases it did a good job. Heavy Cal was fine under lvl 100 though.

Does it do just as well without the Rhino buff tho?

Hammer shot is really underrated tho. Works on weapons like Soma P, Stradavar P, etc beautifully.. Status does get important as enemy levels increase

Rhino was just showing off double dips cuz Roar also double dips into DoT effects.  It's additive with Faction multipliers.

It will certainly produce better Bleed procs than any other mod you could slot. Instead of x1.55 increase in damage, it's doing x2.4 so Primed Faction mods can't be beaten on a Bleed or Gas build. The 178% Roar and Faction together were producing about x10 Bleeds so yea it won't be "that" effective but still always worth slotting on a DoT build. My Soma Prime is normally pure Physical though due to the Riven it's using. I found it simply had better kill speed than my previous builds and while Corrosive technically eventually wins I feel it's past the point were using Soma is a realistic option due to ammo economy. I much prefer Synapse or Quanta V for single target DPS.

Hammer Shot was just hated on by the community for some reason. I don't think people were shooting at big enough armor to show it's value.

*It's important to note this double dip effect is a bug. A 3-4 year bug but never the less it's not intended.

Huh I didnt know that. I went back to test though and apparently I dont have the rifle bane mods yet 😛 so testing is gonna need to wait till Baro brings them around again. Thanks for the tip tho 😄

I brought then around tge time we had plague star or just before that.... the last time I saw then available was either in December last year or January this year....

Still kicking myself for not getting them 😞 they just don't come often enough.... but then again.... what does ? Even Primed Pistol Ammo mutation is one I rarely see.

I find AR type weapons difficult to build for effectively as the damage takes time to stack on a single target instead of unloading in one go on a single target (shotgun or sniper) or spreading a nice aoe around (ignis, glaxion v) or both (arca plasmor, catchmoon, fulmin primary).

Soma being a mainly crit focused weapon with mediocre status and base damage, its potential is lower than many other newer weapons. It redeems itself somewhat with a high rate of fire but can quickly empty its mag. I'd venture to say, build it and use it for star chart level perhaps up to enemy levels 60 or so but pick up a better weapon as soon as you can... as always, YMMV.

A hunter munitions build imo only starts to shine when enemies are very high level with tons of armor. At lower levels you are better off killing enemies outright with high damage than wait for bleed ticks. Although there are many different ways to do this, in general I use radiation for grineer and corpus, and corrosive for infested as those damage types deal the most damage against their tough units.
