Can We Get Some True "assassination" Missions?

I'm talkin' stupidly long sight lines, let us put snipers to use if we want to. Not that we'd be able to one shot most bosses, but if we got some sort of "HVT" mode where we actually just had to cap one sorry fool, maybe allow us to grassy knoll the poor sod, instead of having to use our snipers as less-than-useful assault rifles.

Something to think about. Maybe give us a building-to-building map, let the hawk-eyed among us set up, while the less inclined get to slug it out on the way to their optimal range.

A proper assassination mission might be in order.

I for one would think it'd be cool to start a mission not in a military space ship or such, but in the middle of some less militarized gathering, with some high ranking something or other you need to get rid of. Upon detection, everyone attending quite reasonably freaks out, and in comes the horde of guards, trying to contain you as everything goes nuts. In this chaos, you have to deal with guards slowing you down, civilians rushing for safety, and the VIP making his/her getaway. This way, you can either choose to deal with it in the standard run and gun sense, or try to tackle it from a stealth angle, either sneaking to a sniping post or getting in close.

It'd make stealth valuable for speed running these missions, and present a new kind of gameplay.

You know, technically, the current Assassination missions are true assassination missions. Your objective is,singularly, the removal of one or more extremely influential VIP. That is assassination,at the very core. The targeted elimination of one or a small number of individuals in a single op. However,I do agree, they could use a bit of a revamped implementation. That is,unless, they're actually expecting a Tenno hit team to take them out, then the current implementation works perfectly.

And,as an aside, stealth works great,in my experience. The new Hush and Suppress mods greatly assist in that regard, and a Shade is also invaluable. Ash and Loki get in on it,too with their activated invisibility abilities. And,finally, simply being intelligent in your use of terrain can help avoid being seen.

I made it to Anyo a couple of times without being detected, without invisibility. People just need to give Shade a try every now and then, instead of jumping straight for the Dethcube.

Why yes,my default approach to ALL missions is stealth. Because it's FUN. It's exhilarating. Yes,it's rough around the edges, but if you're smart, patient, and creative,it's fully workable.

In my opinion, the only thing that needs to be improved for stealth is the sneak attacks. Maybe a ridonkulotarted multiplier attached to the sum of your attack and charge attack damage, and mods that increase that further.

EDIT: It's also fun to "Worst Ninja Ever" a mission. That is get into a loud and proud firefight in each and every room, without raising the shipwide alarm. It's fun, frantic, and deceptively difficult.

And I thought I was the only one who occasionally went for a de facto stealth run.

Back on topic though:

While the current assassination mission fit the denotative definition of assassination just fine, they don't live up the connotative definitions that most people have when they think of assassination. I didn't assassinate Vor so much as flat out splatter him across the asteroid he was hanging out in, in a long, drawn out fight. Besides, there should be various targets who really couldn't be able to put up a real fight, like Corpus executives, Grineer propagandists, and the like, where going with the connotative way of assassinations would make more sense.

It could be actualy a sabotage mission. With VIP on far away platform. Player could have an option to shot him with something accurate enough (he would have very low hp soo proper tier sniper guns should be able to one shot him) or hack a terminal to cause accident killing vip.

I like where NotBot's is going with this. But I see the assassinations playing out differently.

I was thinking that a VIP (Not Vor or Alad or other notable foes, some random high ranking soldier) would be seen giving a motivational speech to his/her fellow soldiers. At some point, this soldier will be at the height of his speech. Then, a well placed bullet Knocks him dead off the stage. The Crowd, now terrified, Run around screaming their heads off. While the guards are occupied with keeping the crowd contained, you make off though a marked exit route. If you botch the stealth, there's always a Plan B. When the alarms go off, the VIP will be escorted to a more secure area (They won't leave the ship). This merely means more goons to kill. Now its interesting for both Rambo Killers and Stealth Slayers.

Have him be protected by a guardian of sorts, and when you destroy said guardian, you can...

Good Idea, we could follow Bioshock's example, namely the 'Big Daddies' and 'Little Sisters.' The Target is protected by a big mean Tank-of-a-Soldier. The TOAS will not allow you to kill the target without a fight, and, therefore, must be killed. when the Guardian's dead, the target will be either begging for mercy(Execute), Running the other way screaming for help(make him trip), or fighting like a watered-down Capture target(Old Fashioned Way). (now I know why the word 'Visionary' is in your name)

I love this Idea, though.

I like a lot of the suggestions here. From what I'm seeing, a lot of the discussion involves trying to get stealth gameplay to be more valuable, which I am always behind. We are super ninjas - stealth should be a viable option, and the game does not really encourage that in its current mechanics. I'm very much in favor of NotBot and AdeptJR's ideas, as they allow for multiple playstyles, and seem reasonably easy to execute with the current mechanics.

The idea of having assassinate missions where, once the boss is killed, the alarm automatically goes off (who misses their boss getting killed in public?)  would really help balance the innate advantage a Loki or Ash would have, and still allow for lots of opportunity for killing lots of enemies late-game. My only condition there is that the boss be easy to kill if the alarm hasn't sounded.

I think that the bodyguard idea is great; here's my take on the idea - have the target easy to kill, but once he goes down, the bodyguard goes "berserk" on the Tenno - hunting you down to avenge his charge. This gives you a choice - attack the guard first, and lose the element of surprise (perhaps the target tries to get away during the fight), or kill the target first and have a minor Stalker come after you for immediate revenge. For extra challenge, scale the number of guards with the number of Tenno in the mission.
