Recommended Frames?

Question

Hey all, so I'm still pretty new to the game but I'm having a blast so far. However, I'm still trying to choose a frame that would fit my play style some more. Right now I've been playing Rhino Prime and enjoying it, also bought Nyx Prime but haven't invested any time into it so far. I've still got a long way to go before end game, but I was wondering what this fine community would recommend is suited for a fast paced, kind of AOE melting frame? I've given Saryn a try but didn't invest much into her because I didn't know how to play her, but will give it another go soon but would love to hear some recommendations in the mean time. I'm sure down the road I'll give more a try, but for the mean time I guess I'm searching for my "main" as I progress through the game.

Thanks all :D

AOE melting frame... Saryn ...would love to hear some recommendations in the mean time.

Saryn does fit your discription pretty well but as for all frames you need to invest heavy to be rock solid.

Build her for 230+ Range and positive Duration. Put a Spore on an enemy and pop it with Gas Damage (Ignis is very good) or use your 3 (Toxic Lash) to give yourself some toxin buffs to pop the spores.

Another good frame and which is a bit more tanky is Mesa.

I feel pretty comfortable with this

and haven't met any issues until now. (This is also my recommended loadout for any Open World Bounties and can tackle them solo easily)

Saryn is a great AOE frame, with a little bit of investment she starts to melt enemies. Another great allrounder frame is Gara: you can be tanky, you can protect things and you have large AOE damage.

Choosing a single "main" is not really something you should do in warframe. Different frames just do extremely different things in certain missions.

Thanks man, appreciate the info! Like I said, still pretty new to the game and have a long way to go until end game and learning mechanics, but super appreciate the build advice and everything. I actually bought Mesa too but also didn't know how to play the frame either so I'll have to give them both a shot.

I actually haven't looked too much into Gara, thanks. And yeah, I guess different frames call for different situations which I'm sure I'll learn more about as I go along. I guess it's more which one to level and build the most as I progress and then start more work as I get closer to end game. Appreciate the help!

I activate her 3 (95% Damage reduction from received shots above 130% Strength) and Bullet Jump around the map/objective and activate Peacemaker while Aim Gliding. Peacemaker keeps enemies locked on for 5 seconds even if you lose line of sight. So by jumpgin and gliding you can cover a wider area without the need to use Mesa's Waltz and also stay mobile so enemies won't hit you as often

With a good build, good weapons, arcanes, mods etc you can get even regular excalibur to "melt everything".Granted not with a single push of a button like saryn, but still pretty good.

The most versatile frame imo is Nova(and my main to this day), because if you get used to her and the fact that you gotta be on top of you movement/ position and timing she can do it all. Also she has a number of different builds and uses/play styles to make the game easy/fast interesting. The game with her is not easy at first, but it's way more rewarding if you manage to try out her full kit to it's potential(not just the mprime).

The other frame that can get close or even more than saryn in terms of map clearing is Octavia. She is my second best right behind Nova, good for all of the content, can go toe to toe with level over9000 and with her you have half a second of breathing time on higher content unlike most other frames (haven't got to Revenant yet, I saw that you can fall asleep with him if he is build right).

My third recommendation is Volt: speed, room clearing, survival, eidolons, even support with his augments.

I want to offer you my perspective as a fellow new-ish player who's also into AOE melting: It's really about the weapons.

There are definitely frames who lean more toward what you want than others, and they've been mentioned here by other players, but I would actually argue that it's really certain weapons you want to be looking for to get the playstyle you want, while letting your choice of frame have more to do with overcoming specific challenges.

Here are the weapons I've found that really scratch the itch to roast tons of badguys:

Arca Plasmor - shotgun, fires huge waves of plasma. Semi-auto trigger.

Ignis (or Ignis Wraith) - Rifle, but it's a flamethrower. Trigger is held. I can't even articulate how much fun this thing is to use.

Pyrana Prime - Fully-auto hand shotgun. It's as fun as it sounds. Make three kills in rapid succession and your rate of fire goes into overdrive.

That said, I think the Warframe for you (from the ones I've played) is probably Oberon. He's decently tough and has an entire toolkit that you'll use, including a huge 240-degree-plus cone of radiation damage you can lay down and a point-blank AOE where he lifts everyone into the air and slams them back down again, also with a formidable range.

Hope this helps! Feel free to look me up in-game!

What you're going to find the most helpful to you are mods. Invest the time in farming them, then the Endo for ranking them up, and you'll be able to pick pretty much any frame that you're interested in to try.

For example, a lot of people will post builds, but it's not always possible to mimic them unless you have those mods. Transient Fortitude, Fleeting Expertise, Narrow Minded, Overextended, Blind Rage, these are the Corrupted mods and will drop from the Derelict; specifically they drop from the Vaults that appear on Derelict missions (not Defense though) and you will need to not only craft a Derelict Key to take on missions on the Derelict, but also craft Dragon Keys from your Dojo research in order to unlock the Vaults.

When you have those, a few of the Set mods (Hunter, Augur, Gladiator sets) and the Auras you can pick up from the Nightwave (Energy Siphon, Corrosive Projection, Steel Charge), then you'll be able to build a decent setup on any frame.

Niche stuff drops from places like Arbitrations (you need to have cleared every node on the Star Chart to take part in those) where you'll find Adaptation and similar, which are very powerful when combined with the right frames.

But...

On the actual topic of frames, let's take a look at what you should have available.

You joined this week, literally Sunday, so you can't have gotten far. And yes, paying for a few frames will give you a bit of a boost over your competition. My advice is to join a Clan, for the research there.

If you started with another frame, Volt is a good place to go from the Dojo, he has decent 1 that will suffice at lower level and also stun at higher level, his 2 is fantastic for moving fast if you build it for Strength, although other players do find it annoying, his 3 is one of the better defense casts in the game, it's literally just an invulnerable shield you can charge with his 1 as a taser and you can cast multiple to screen off incoming damage (his 3 is also a boost if you shoot through it, so great for improving your damage output with weapons), and his 4 is a large Area of Effect cast for lots of crowd control and even some decent damage if enemies are close together.

Also in the Dojo is Nezha, and Nezha is currently in a fantastic place in the game. His 1 is extra damage, a great source of Status and generally a great personal speed boost. Fast boi is fast anyway ^^ His 2 is literally one of the best abilities in the game for the cost and the effect it has; it deals some damage, sets enemies on fire, debuffs them so they take more damage, and then when they die there's a guaranteed chance for them to drop Health and a 30% chance for them to drop Energy orbs. This makes him really sustainable and great for all levels of play, especially once you get some mods that can really work with that. On top of this it has a charge-fire mode that makes it fire in a straight line, hitting everything in that line, and, best part, you can teleport to the ring you throw at any time, meaning it's great for mobility too (more? More than that? if you have his 1 active, when you teleport you do a little damage explosion when you teleport, it's really the core of his kit). His 3 is similar to Iron Skin, although it functions more as a damage reduction than prevention, you have 3 seconds to get shot at while invulnerable, then the damage turns into a counter where 90% of damage taken is siphoned off into that counter, if it breaks you get another second of invulnerability in which to re-cast it for another round of invulnerability while you charge it, so you don't need to charge it too far. And his 4 is basically a Rhino Stomp, but spears come out of the ground and impale everything for a duration while you deal damage. If you use his 2 on an enemy speared by his 4, you generate copies of his 2 that bounce off and hit other targets too, meaning you can proc whole crowds of suspended enemies on fire, make them take more damage, and drop Health and/or Energy when they die. Nezha's a great choice if you're looking for that.

There's also my particular favourite, Zephyr, but you might want to leave off on her until you have more in-game time, she's a little... floaty and finicky to play, and you either love her or hate her. Come back and talk to me if you really want to know about her, she can be (can, not always is) super tanky, and she is amazing at getting from one place to the other if she has enough room. Played wrong, she'll spend all her time wedged into a corner waiting for her momentum to die down and you'll break something because she's hit the top of a door instead of going through it, again.

If you kill an Eximus unit, you may see it drop Oberon parts, and Oberon is also a frame in a great place. One of the best support frames in game, with a lot of potential damage if used right. You should never die as an Oberon. Build him for Strength and Duration and pick up Hunter Adrenaline to keep your energy up, because the goat god Oberon has self-healing and team-healing for days. His 1 is a direct radiation proc with some damage, and it spawns little projectiles that each deal damage based on a percent of the original enemy's maximum Health, which is great for spreading more damage around, and if you hit Gunners and Bombards and Ancients with it, they have a lot of health to draw from for damage. His 2 places an area that will damage and place Radiation on enemies that step on it, and you are immune to Status effects when you are standing on it. His 3 is a radial cast that will do a small burst of healing on contact, but will then proceed to heal allies continually unless they jump off a cliff or run into a Nullifier (infinite range, that's what I'm saying, while they have it on them it's infinite range), and if a person being affected by the healing runs over your 2, they also gain a large chunk of armour for as long as they're being affected by the heals too. And his 4 is a radial lift and slam of enemies, it's reasonable, but not scaling, damage and enemies that die from it drop Health, while enemies that are in range, but don't die are Blinded, if an enemy has Radiation status and is standing on your 2, then your 4 will also strip off their armour. Well-built, it can take one or two casts to completely strip armour off. It's a well put-together kit, and you may enjoy being a Paladin Goat God ^^

Try out any frame you get from a boss on your way through to getting the frames that drop from Quests and Relays, but you only get to the really powerful ones after a bit more play time.

Don't sell any blueprints that you don't have multiples of. Don't fully rank up any Corrupted mods until you have a duplicate to experiment with (Narrow Minded, in particular, only needs to be rank 7 for most builds).

But try out all the frames you can. You'll be surprised at the ones you can find that you may enjoy.
