Strict Nat

Question

Hey guys, I've been trying to get help from support for a good week now with no luck. I see this has been an issue in the past with other players but this is new to me as it was just recent I started playing. So, let me explain.

I own 2 PS4s. I play on one (Port 4990 & 4995) and my boyfriend plays on the other ps4 (Port 4960 & 4965). For the last 2 months, we've had absolutely no problem playing together. But lately, it's been issue after issue. We log on and one of us is hit with the strict NAT. At first, it still let us play with no problems. But... Now we get that message and it drains the want to even play the game. Now, we can't have voice chat in game. (One ps4 is upstairs, the other is downstairs.) Or, we get voice chat to connect and we're good until we load up a map and it just drops and goes dead. If people join is, whoever got hit with the strict nat notification cannot see them and once the mission is over, gets booted to a screen that says to press x to continue but you can't, causing you to have to close the application. This has been going on for a solid week. We port forwarded. Cleared the cache on both PS4s. UPnP was enabled now it's disabled (I read a forum that it might help...It didn't.)

We are at our wits ends and honestly just about to give up. Our firmware for our router is up to date, I've  talked to our ISP and they did everything they could for us but no luck. Anyone else deal with this and successfully fix it? I could have done the port forwarding wrong but I don't think I did.

Router is a Sagemcom fast 5260.

Update:

Hey guys, finally may have gotten the issue fixed. Let me go over everything I did to get to this point.

We port forwarded, DMZ, cache cleared, uninstalled and reinstalled, reset router to factory setting and then my boyfriend attempted to create a static IP address to no avail. WELLL, today I followed his lead but I found a good step by step video that helped me out. Looking at it now, I believe this was our issue. The IP address for both PS4s were extremely similar. I.E 111.111.1.x1 for mine and 111.111.1.1 for his. The X represents the one digit that was different. With the way our apartment is set up, we have one PS4 in the living room and the other in our bedroom. I play warframe on both consoles and with the addresses being so similar, I think something got crossed and confused, thinking they were the same IPs. I think. I don't know for sure but after changing the IP for his PS4, we finally were able to join a game together with no issue.

Thank you to those who replied to this and tried helping. 🙂

Unfortunately there's little the warframe support can do from their side. It has to do with port forwarding and internet settings. I'm afraid I'm not technically savvy enough to help you figure it out, but it is an absolute pain. Warframe support will probably just point you to the already-posted help and guides on strictNAT.

There's literally nothing they can do on their side to fix it for you 😞

Thank you. I wish they would have said that a week ago instead of leaving the ticket open. They gave one suggestion which was just giving different ports to the games and then ghosted me. I was hoping they had another fix that hasn't been talked about since most of the strict nat forums I found were rather old. 😞

so, what i've found when my router, or IP is causing issues with nat type, there should be a link you can paste or type in which will take you to your router/internet settings, what you'll want to do is demilitarize your router, it doesn't impact security by any means and it may require you to reboot it after, but after you DMZ your internet, the nat type issue SHOULD be gone as Dmz'ing your router overrides everything else restricting your nat

to figure out how to access your router/internet settings, look on your internet service provider's website for step by step instructions. that's the best thing you can do, and it always works for me.

edit: my issue i found was the router and service i had, which was AT&T, with spectrum i never had this issue since, or had to dmz it

I thought I forgot to add something.

I did this for my PS4 and it fixed it for mine. But it gave all the issues to my boyfriend's PS4 and since I had mine in DMZ, it would not let me put his into it without taking mine off. I feel like I've tried everything, aside from uninstalling it on his PS4 since that was kind of our last attempt but I'm currently re-downloading the game for myself since I'm just fed up.

so this DEFINITELY needs to brought up to your internet service provider, they're the cause of this issue in the first place.

but on the off chance there are two ports Warframe is automatically set to, make sure they align with the router's ports, i've personally tried adjusting the ports, changing them anywhich way and restarting the game, and rebooting the router, but at the end of the day, this is something the IP is at fault for, so give them a call and see about getting the router replaced or the wiring double checked, since improperly installed cables can cause sever packet loss, resulting in a strict nat type. because 1 or two ps4, it doesn't matter, you should NEVER have issues with your nat type, and when you do, it's the ip's fault, happened to me on various games too, not just warframe
