Earth Defence Force similar to Warframe?

People always bring up destiny and other loot shooters when trying to describe warframe, but sometimes the gameplay of Warframe feels most like Earth Defence Force to me. 

I don’t mean this in a bad way. I like EDF and when Warframe is at its silliest and horde shootiest they just feel the same to me.

What I’m saying, I guess, is that I want a new faction of giant insects with terrible rag doll physics to kill.

Considering that both games have a similar mission flow (in particular, selecting weapons before said missions and being unable to change them during), I can see the comparison.

Yeah, EDF's giant insects is kinda what I imagined the infested would be like when I was but a young Tenno. Would be cool to get something like that actually.

And yeah, EDF is rather similar to Warframe. They're both Power Fantasy Looter Shooters, so the comparison is apt, just like the comparison to Dynasty Warriors is (and yeah, EDF can be compared to Dynasty Warriors as well). Great games, all three (except DW9).

Eh, EDF’s absurdities work because of its low budget and charming cheesiness. Giving Warframe a faction with insane ragdoll animations might be fun but definitely not fitting considering the tone, even if the gameplay is similar.

I would say warframe is like spiral knights.

Why do we need a faction with insane ragdoll animations when we have a hammer and a Shield Lancer?

Eh, I'd say SK's gameplay isn't as comparable, owing to the fact that it's less horde focused and more based on a relatively small number of threatening enemies in handcrafted arenas.

Unless it's changed significantly in the years since I last played, of course (I tried it for a while, enjoyed it, but it never really got its hooks into me like Warframe did).

Eh, it would be the same to comparing Warframe to CoD or any shooter on the market. This game has guns therefore it is like that game. I'd say EDF has more differences than similarities and that's by a long mile.

I mainly would use EDF as an example of how to do horde shooters right. You can feel like a God in that game, but your are not invincible. It may on the outside look like a mindless horde shooter but rarely has any shooter game emphasized how important it is to hold the line. You break formation or you don't keep the enemies suppressed and you'll find yourself quickly overrun.

I’m just goofin, kinda.

Warframe is generally more “AAA” than EDF but there’s a few weapons like Catchmoon and such that just make me laugh like I’m playing EDF.

Handcrafted map parts, procedurally generated levels.

Except for the boss levels.

To be fair, I don't think the developers of EDF were shooting for your typical AAA games.

Oh absolutely. They know what they’re making and they make it well.

Whats funnier to me is that Warframe tries, and often succeeds, to make high minded gaming experiences, but sometimes it’s just a mindless shooter and all your thinking is “shooting dudes is cool!”

Well, I always felt nostalgic playing warframe as it feels like a fleshed out "GunZ: the duel" widout the pvp component and less hand breaking controls 😛

I dunno, considering that I never said we actually do need one I’m unsure why this question is addressed to me. Unless you meant to ask the OP that and misquoted.

The Shield Lancer thing is an obvious glitch as opposed to a feature though.

haven't played EDF in a while actually, but even so, a true fan of both Warframe and EDF would sing heartily before each battle!

EDF is very similar to WF, you can get epilepsy with both.

Now I want a Warframe like the Fencer in EDF 4.1, PURE FIRE POWER PLATFORM!

Seriously, Fencer is my favorite class, and my set up is a walking weapons platform. The only thing it needs is that shield that the Heavy Armor has in EDF Insect Armageddon.
