Ammo packs have no effect when you are unarmed due to spending all ammo

In missions, if you only have one weapon equipped and you run out of ammo on this weapon, you become unarmed (whether or not this is intentional, I don't know). The problem is that if you choose to use an ammo pack to restore ammo to regain usage of your weapon, it has absolutely no affect and gives you no ammo, leaving you in the unarmed state. And so you're forced to run around unarmed searching for ammo before you can use your ammo restores, which is quite annoying.

 

I was using large squad ammo restores and the boar prime with nidus when this happened, if that is any help.
