HDD to SSD

Question

Hi all, I was wondering how I can move Warframe from my HDD to SDD? Unlike with other steam games, Warframe doesn't seem to let you do it manually through the client.
I have had a nose around google but couldn't find a specific way to do it? Any help greatly appreciated

While not optimal uninstalling and reinstalling will do the trick.

Alternatively you can do it manually manually. As in move the directories yourself.

I would try one of those things if it doesn't seem like there's build in functionality to do it. I'm unable to verify that myself at the moment.

This is what I did. Just make sure you save your config file first so that once you re-install, you can get all your settings back by overwriting the new config file with your existing one (unless you don't have too many custom settings/key bindings).

Technically you can by doing some regedit changes but unless you have really slow internet it would be more time consuming esp if you run your OS off the SSD and I wouldn't recommend regedit unless you have some decent PC understanding.

I personally don't use steam much so I have a stand alone install on my SSD with a HDD install for buying tennogen on steam. Depending on your storage space you can go with something like that. I have a silly 4.5 TB.

If using Stream, when installing a game you get the option to pick the install location.  I do as I have multiple drives in my PC.  You even have the option to change the install locations later in Stream by right clicking the game while in the library view.

Be aware that this option will only appear when there is more than one active hdd installed or connected and powered on.

This is the very method I used to have both Stream Client and Stand-alone clients installed on two separate hdd other than my OS drive.

Yes, I could right click ANY of game through Steam to move it, but WF does not let you do this. I ended up just uninstalling it and re-downloading direct to my SSD. Took 2.5hrs but it was worth the wait haha

Hey, here's how you do it for next time man )

From the wiki warframe page

BACKING UP WARFRAME STEAM VERSION

The reason for this method is because Steam’s own Backup and Restore (not the Cloud Backup) feature won’t work on Warframe, since Warframe uses its own launcher and CDN for the most recent updates. (Steam only hosts the major update versions  😞 )

If you wanted to backup your Steam version and/or copy it to another computer (or in case of clean Windows install, moving it to another system or any other problems), you could follow these steps (TESTED):

1. Backup/copy to other folder the Warframe's Steam version folder. (It's on your \SteamApps\common\Warframe folder on your Steam Library folder). And don't forget to also backup the appmanifest_230410.acf on the SteamApps folder (You'll need this to skip the initial download phase)

2. Export these two entries through Regedit from your Windows registry (if Warframe in your system is fine and you just wanted to backup or copy it to another system) or from another trusted and clean system with working Steam version Warframe:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Digital Extremes\Warframe
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps\230410

3. Copy back the backed up files of your Warframe to \SteamApps\common\Warframe and the appmanifest_230410.acf to \SteamApps folder on your Steam Library folder.

4. Exit Steam and make sure Steam is fully stopped in your system. Edit the appmanifest_230410.acf through Notepad or any text editor and change "StageFlags" from "1026" to "4".

5. Merge the registry exports that you made previously. If you changed your library folder to a different one from before reinstalling Steam, open Regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Digital Extremes\Warframe\Launcher and make sure that the value for LauncherExe key refers to the right Launcher.exe on steamapps\common\Warframe\Tools\ of your Steam Library folder (just change it to the right Steam Library folder).

6. Voila. Your Steam version Warframe has been restored completely without downloading most of the files.

  • These steps also works on corrupted launcher problems (simply backup, reinstall, restore the files), or simply reinstalling it after clean Windows installation.
