Strikerays
i have on my settings no more than 300 ms, but lately i been paired with hosts where i get more than 600, 800 even 1.5k ms or more. i checked out my network also my modem to see if it was something by my part but no, everything is alright. NightmareT12
If I must guess, I believe it actually works, the problem is those people usually have fluctuations and you join when the game thinks they're below that. Which sucks big time.

Which sucks big time. This, game, if my comp sci knowledge is to help me AT all, is that the game checks through all available matches, finds the lowest ping at that instant, and jumps you to that game. Other filters might be added, such as like relics and then your ms filter, before it does this check, but the main thing is it only does it ONCE. It doesn't do a few general pings over a few seconds, find the one with the lowest average, THEN if none are found in your ms range bump you to your own, it just checks once, so if in that one instance, the game detects a low ms, it will drop you in, consistency in connection or possible tanking of the opposing pc be dammed... If im incorrect and they do do multiple checks...then well it might just be the fact that some computers cant handle hosting...so the ping is fine until the join is made, then the computer tanks, but the host doesn't care as this is 'normal' for them but you are now stuck rubber banding to heck. But I'm pretty sure its the first option...as I'm unsure when the last time they made/had an update to there matchmaking system...granted, for what it does it works as well as anything of its kind, just...having that setting mean something would be pretty cool...
uAir
For the most part, yes, it works for me. Sometimes it doesn't and I get stuck at 400ms. Sometimes the person's connection is unstable and I'll be jumping from 90 to 300 and that's even worse than just stable at 400ms. 😞

Another person joins, it raises again to 150ms. The 4th joins, goes to 175ms. More or less that.

Hail Hydroid. As you may know, this game is peer2peer, the problem is that some people either has atrocious internet speeds or internet stability. So if you happen to get high amount of ping (considering everything is fine with your internet), it's the host's fault, I'm not saying it's their fault to have bad quality internet speeds and stability (probably they can't have a better service). The problem is usually with people who have fluctuating ping (imagine you being the host having a tight bandwith through WiFi and someone else is using the Internet).

When I met those kind of people, I tell the host to turn off Redtube. 9/10 the connection gets better after that.
(PSN)jaggerwanderer
What's worse is if you set the ping to below 100ms, hell even at 125ms, there won't be anyone joining your sessions at all. I was fortunate enough to get a group of four players at 100ms once. One of my team mates constantly complain about lag issue saying the host (me) have bad connection. I even ask him what was his ping setting, quate "Mine's at 200ms." One after the other, the other team mates said their setting was at 100ms. So how the hell did someone who set it to 200ms get to join us at 100ms ping setting?

nooneyouknow13
It work in general, but sometimes you'll still get put into a match with a wildly fluctuating ping that only sometimes is below your threshold. Basically, if your ping to the host is under the threshold you're looking for, at the moment of match making, you'll be placed.
0_The_F00l
The fluctuations are to blame primarily, I am not sure how the game determines the piny, just lowest instance or an average or something, I set my limit to 200 and I usually get a rough 180 ms on most games. The few times I do get higher it's not just me, everyone gets it poorly and it is usually a bad connection of the host.
(PSN)joehan1287
I don't think the ping can be measured before a connection is established to the Host. [DE]Glen talk in an AMA about that they use the geolocation of the ip for matchmaking.
