Would The Grattler Be Op If It Didn't Do Self Damage?

I'm a really big fan of this weapon! Huge AA cannon that shreds and does a ton of AOE damage, or at least that's how it is for me.

However as fun as it is to use, it also feels like a ticking timebomb for you to make one mistake. It's just impossible to survive your own shot from this, even if you have resistance to it. You have to be really careful not to shoot anywhere near your feet which can be really frustrating, especially if you're in tight corridors or the infested are constantly in your face. Unless you hold back a lot using it, or perched really high somewhere, it doesn't feel good trying to use it without being greeted with your body flying off into the distance.

I don't understand why I'd use this over the Staticor if I really, really wanted to be efficient? The Staticor has a huge AOE but it doesn't have self-damage, so why not remove it from the Grattler?

i guess the answer is definitely no simply based on that until some day that its AoE is made less convoluted and more like the Flak Gun it's trying to theme itself on, it won't really ever be efficient anyways.

that being, that the Damage stats in the Arsenal refer to both the Direct Impact and the Explosion, but the Explosion happens at a fixed flight distance, so unless you are that exact distance away from the Enemy so that it Pierces the Enemy and explodes nearby after Piercing - you're doing significantly less Damage than it is supposed to.

i.e. the Weapon is almost always only dealing slightly less than 2/3 of the Damage people expect it to from the Arsenal Stats.

Please don't do this, we don't talk about logic thinking here

I got used to it's AoE and if enemies are close I just spray at the ground around me far enough away to never get hit by it, except when another frame jumps in front of me or a surprise drone. It shouldn't be hard to get used to, I've instagibbed myself many times with it even in arbs but it's not that much of a bother, just a mistake.

it is not limited by self damage but because it lacks a contact/proximity fuse how ever is in nuts on mag

indeed. why it doesn't detonate slightly after Piercing anything is beyond me, but it would be thematically perfect. (why no AA Cannon features for an AA Cannon Weapon)
but at the very least i'd take Proximity Airbursting, as that would still be an overall Damage increase since the Explosion is stronger than the Projectile in most cases.
