MacGraeme
Hi. Yes, I'm sure you've heard this one, as a casual search demonstrates. It is simply ridiculous that if I haven't played in a couple days, there is a potentially hours long update of some kind. I have never seen a game behave like this so frequently on startup. There is something extremely inefficient or poorly planned about the way Warframe handles updates and this should not be considered acceptable. You can bet you lose a lot of new players over this. This really should be treated as a "bug" with high priority. Some suggestions: (1) Don't display the message "Checking for new content" when you are obviously downloading an update. Maybe a message saying "Updates available: Downloading", perhaps? If it is really downloading 6GB (as it is doing to me now) just to check whether there is new content, then something is seriously broken. I mean what is it doing, downloading the entire game and then checking files byte by byte to see if anything has changed? Checking whether there are updates is a simple query for the timestamp of the latest patch! (2) Integrate with the steam updater, which is more likely to be running in background & update the game so it is ready when player hits play -- don't expect us to always have your custom launcher running (which I assume/hope might avoid this issue). (3) Implement peer-to-peer downloads, at least as an option, if your servers can't handle the load. 200 or 500 kb/s when my internet connection can handle 6MB/s is not good at all (and no nothing else is hogging bandwidth on my end). MacGraeme
Just to add... it's now 30 minutes so far this time around... I was excited to jump back in to warframe... now I'm going to go play something else. Hard to say when the bug bites me again to try warframe... out of sight out of mind. No, it's downloading one update after the other, first the one that's 6GB and after that it checks if there is another update and downloads that one. Warframe updates extremely often, because they release a lot of new content. 26 minutes ago, MacGraeme said: don't expect us to always have your custom launcher running I don't know of a single online game that doesn't use their own launcher, there probably is a reason for that... 28 minutes ago, MacGraeme said: if your servers can't handle the load. 200 or 500 kb/s when my internet connection can handle 6MB/s is not good at all That's definitely not true for everyone, I always have 1-2 mb/s, so I don't believe it's their servers...
