I still find the overall reward scheme for the Mastery system lackluster and pointless. I will still go through the MR until I hit cap it's just that it doesn't really excite me. I basically see it as a lazy way to attempt some sort of progression system. You have vertical progression that you see in most MMO's, you level and get better gear. That is a never ending cycle. You have horizontal progression which you can see in something like Elder Scrolls Online. Power is determined by the sets you wear and can use said sets from the very start of the game (granted you have someone to help you make them). Then we have Warframe... Now with this it does have some sort of vertical progression but only until you hit a point and it becomes kinda horizontal progression. The reason I say that is mainly how power is obtained in Warframe and that is by a combination of weapons and mods. So essentially they are locking away the "vessel" for said mods via Mastery Rank but other than that mods are free game. That is what is so confusing you lock away an empty shell but there is no stopping someone from obtaining the core foundation to making something stronger. So with that they are attempting vertical progression with Mastery Rank and then dropping in Horizontal with the mods but then that goes out the window because armor scaling is done in the most obscene manner essentially tossing out any kind of progression presented before that. I completely understand that Mastery Rank is not mandatory beyond a certain rank. I think I understand, cmon there is no clear, single, progression metric in warframe. Yet that's what we're used to, trained for, and do in our careers. Personaly I like it that in warframe its not about linear progression or endgame content or leaderboards... I enjoy myself playing all kinds of setups, frames, weapon-loadouts and game modes, annoy some internet trolls and then go play something else before workday routine takes over. What I'm trying to say is that imho warframe is a sandbox game, why not enjoy it as such? Sometimes do sorties, othertimes i enjoy fissures/index/trading/etc. Maybe looking from the sandbox-perspective might help?

Maybe it's just my long time history of playing MMO's that made me think otherwise.

I have done Helene so much in the last 3-4 weeks that I can open an Orokin cell shop and sell them in bulk. Or you could just not do that cycle of insanity. Using a leveling node to pointlessly burn through gear is a choice that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE. Build your weapon. Use your weapon. Figure out in the process if you like it and want to use it as more than just mastery fodder. You might be surprised by which weapons you actually like using when you... well you know... use it. Tenno76856
The thing for me is, as someone else pointed out - wish they made more goals -- which a weapon or frame etc locked behind MR has been for me. A goal to aim more. The usual rewards that come with raising MR are just that. Expected when u go up levels. I love grindy games but this gets super grindy when they isnt much to aim for past MR 15. Goodwill
For me, being one of the few people who can actually collect everything in Warframe, I feel obliged to follow through. Mastery is merely the result of collection and an arbitrary number that gives some insight to how much that player may possess.

Like no progression beyond the build, level and do mastery rank tests? Mastery is exactly this. It’s a way to get you to build and try out new weapons and frames. Everything else is all quality of life stuff, if you care about it. Personally, I enjoy the increased mod capacity on unranked weapons the most. Load out slots are nice too.
