So I Reached Mastery Rank 7 Today

After 551 hours of gameplay.

And while surely everyone knows already 90% of the stuff I will raise now, here is my one statement about the so-called mastery system: /NSFW

Balance, bugs, mechanics... they are all annoying, to some more, to others less. But this very mastery system, is the worst of the entire game. I will try to make this quick: there are two ways to live through it.

a) You carry useless crap with yourself whilst playing with only one weapon, feeling limitations like rarely seen before and praying to at least 8 gods every second that you see a level-up during the results screen for effort you basically didn't raise.

b) You actually use your worthless crocodile porn crap to kill bullS#&$tish grineer which killed you in your dreams more often than you were knocked down during a vast Kappa run, just hoping that this perfectly inhuman torture will actually result in weapons you might want to keep.

This you do not endure for an hour or two, you do it FOR WEEKS, MONTHS.  ...  MONTHS.

If I have had any kind of choice I would have never stepped beyond rank 4, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, clan weapons which need rank 1338. During levelling for rank 6 I already had to take 4 times the usual dose of my contra depression pills, but when levelling for rank 7 I was forced to kick away my monitor every now and then just to see whether what I see is still reality or not.

In the end, I'm probably not sane but perfectly aware of the fact that any crucial change to the mastery system now would be nothing slim of unfair towards the people who, for some reason, worked their way through it.

So here is simply a gentle question, an appeal coming from my heart:

Do not release any weapons which need a higher rank than 7. Do not come along with a super dolphin launcher which needs rank 11. Do not SCARE me again like you did with Synapse, as I tried to jump through my window (thankfully I was so dazed that I hit the door instead, thrice).

Please.

Im always into a grind on games, loved D3. I find this game is pretty easy, and not really stressfull at all. Just equiped a gun, used it, tried to make it good, and actually played the game. Working through missions and getting void keys, and doing alerts, just by doing these then using a gun you want to level the levels will go by easy mode.

But yes, i do agree, the mastery rank does force you out of your comfort zone of weapons you want to use, and does stop you using the ones you want to use and like. But that's how it is, remember the game isnt fully released yet! It could change! Personally i would like something like D3 called Paragon levels, were xp was earnt from killing monsters, a bit like how the warframes level up from everything.

At mastery 4 right now, but I have to say I LIKE that it makes you use all the weopnes. It means that you will have to have played the game to get the rank, where other games you can just sit there and gain XP.

As for going out of your comfort zone, I see that as a good thing. If you don't do that, how will you know what you like?

True, going out of your comfort zone is a good thing. But for some people thats a bad thing. One of my friends is a bit annoyed because he doesnt get much time to play the game, but he would rather come on and use what he likes and still be able to level up his mastery rank. I suppose it is for some people and not for others.

I am Mastery Rank 11, soon 12, and I am not that bothered with it. I have 489 hours in total on steam.

The only things in this game, at the moment at least, that I have troubles with, are why Orokin Cells are super rare and why I cannot get what I want for void rewards.

If you kept only to the weapons you liked, you'd find the game stale to play quickly enough. A lot of people would just come on the forums, aim for the Acrid / Flux / Soma / Ogris / Whatever and Warframe they want, get those, rank them to 30 then never move from that.

The Mastery system does exactly as intended : it shows how much of the game you mastered / experienced. Sure, you can be a Paris sharpshooter and be able to consistently land headshots from across a full map but you're only a master of that weapon. With 30 ranks of time to use all weapons, you get your feel for them, what you like and what you dislike. It also gives you incentive to get ressources and manage them into what to craft next along with the few opportune "Hey, I got all those parts; might as well make it".

True, the restrictive nature of some weapons being linked to MR is somewhat annoying but the early ranks are quick enough to go through if you craft a few weapons and a second frame. And those 'endgame' weapons like the Synapse and all those?

Well you need to join a clan to get them anyway so by then, not only will you have to had some sort of dedication to the game itself but you'll have experienced quite a lot in the game to sometime think "Maybe I don't just want to be another DPS drone; maybe I just want to have fun with that Dera... because I can!"

I'm profoundly surprised that seemingly far too many people have no problem with it. I for my part do not like switching from an S. Vandal to Burston just to get 30 more points of uselessness.

I know it's not a big deal to level up quick, a contact of mine is level 6 and didn't even slap the 100 hours mark yet. Does it make it fun? No. This is why I was rank 5 after 500 hours.

Even if this seemingly is not as much of a problem as I thought, I still stand my point that any more weapons which require anything higher than 7 on your avatar will just drive SOME people into suicide.

the only minus of the mastery system imo is that it doesn't account for Forma'ed weaps/frames

atm i am r6 going to 7 (i think ~200h played but for the most part i just use weaps/frames i like and i'm not leveling stuff hardcore)

i have no problem really leveling warframes, i LIKE leveling them in fact and seeing their capabilities. But weapons can get tedious, and not only that, atm due to me leveling weaps JUST for the mastery points i have postponed putting some more formas on the weapons i really like.

So, you have to choose: level up weapons you dont like OR level up weapons you like... this is counterintuitive i think.

Indeed I can usually tell by Rank 15 if I want to keep a weapon. Some I grind to 30 just to get them out of the way but that's only if a "sort of" like them.

is so agree....thats what i always say....

WHY do they force me to play weapons i dont want to play to get acces to the weapons i like....

thats not fun at all....let me get my experience with teh weapons i want, count it after i got to 30 .

or at least let formaing count to get more amsteryxp.i pref using forma 10 times on weapons i like than playing crapweapons...

@ Anyone who thinks mastery forces you to play weapons you dont like

No, it doesnt, really. If I dont like a weapon but need to level it, I will do this :

1. Equip the crap good-for-nothing weapon.

2. Equip Rhino

3. Go to Kappa

4. Stand there and Roar, and alt-tab

5. Come back after few seconds, Roar again, and then alt-tab.

6 ...

7. TADA !! Level 30 Weapon !

All I saw there was porn and dolphin launchers.  +1

Rank 11 in 260, no boosters other than double xp weekend. Few Formas in things. Some weapons really suck, yes (looking at you, Burston), but mossy of them are really not that bad to level. If you're having this much issue, then perhaps another game is for you?

A big core of this game is making and trying new weapons. I bet with your 500+ hours you could probably make like... everything. It's not like it's hidden, either; there are almost 100 weapons!

I don't mind Mastery....I just don't see the point of it. As weapons go higher in ranks they get more specialized. As it is I found the weapon combo I liked at about Rank 4....so I see little reason to use weapons I don't like just for the arbitrary rank.

And really Mastery should account for more than just unique warframes and weapons leveled. The % of the galaxy explored, the # of bosses killed....many, many MANY things should be added to the mastery calculation to reflect what a player has seen and done. How many weapons and Warframes you chose to use doesn't seem like an actual reflection of player knowledge or skill, since you can level all the weapons with a minimum of effort. Really, it's the resources you're forced to collect to craft these weapons that expose you to the whole game.....not having shot ever version of every weapon there is.

That highlighted part can also be said like this :

A big core of this game is making random new weapons and Kappa afk-farming.
