When should/can I start committing (forma) to a few different weapons?

I'm almost MR8 and absolutely love my Guandao, but obviously know there's probably gonna be better weapons down the line as I use a bunch to level and toss for MRs sake. But I want to actually forma a weapon. I've heard some of the same weapon names around the forums so should I just wait to pick some weapons to forma until I see a bit more or will I regret it if I forma my Guandao. I also really like the Soma, will there be another Primary with a 100+ magazine that's good?

I don't regret forma'ing mine. Most weapons are worth the forma if you like them though

Soma Prime would be the obvious upgrade. I would say that Fulmin is better than that though, even just looking at the auto mode. Fulmin's infinite recharging ammo makes up for the smaller magazine. Still, both guns are for sure worth spending forma on.

The Supra Vandal (MR14) is the biggest mini-gun in the game, but it has time of flight, the fire rate spools up, and while you can fire it all week it takes the whole weekend to reload.

Tenora might be another option worth looking at.

For melee, Guandao is still good, and worth putting forma on. A Zaw polearm like Plague Kripath or Mewan will be better in the long run though.

Pick Up The Fulmin from The Market... its a fantastic almost all purpose weapon for daily usage... definitely a Keeper...

Not many options when it comes to Secondaries.... I would recommend Staticor.... although thats MR 10 I think...

Don't fret "burning" forma. They're easy to get and over the course of your Warframe "career" you'll go through plenty of them. If you like a weapon's play and feel, then go for it. Not every forma has to drop into a perfect meta-build. It's more about fun. That said, I agree with some of the other posters here who mentioned the Fulmin. I dropped 5 forma on mine and it's a wrecking ball. Keep a back-stock of 5-10 Forma for random build requirements though. And don't forget to forma up a Frame.

Plan your build ahead of time though, don't just go dropping random forma on things. Use Warframe Builder to theory-craft and get a sense of where you want to go.

Above all though, don't stress "wasting" forma, they're not that rare and you can always make more after a few junk-relic runs. Above all, have fun with it!

You can use any weapon you like, even for "endgame". So if you like the Guandau, forma it. I'm MR23 with over 3000hrs in the game and I still take mine out on missions. Great crit weapon. You will use a LOT of formas in your playtime.

It's a personal choice, if you like that weapon for any reason it can be made viable for the games reasonable content. 

The tenora, fulmin, prisma gorgon have similarities to the primary you are looking for. 

Secondaries - find what you like in kitgun combos.

If you really like the weapon, then formaing it is fine.

As said, the Fulmin is an excellent gun. I'm using it now and have already forma'd it. I use the semi mode most.

My own view is that it's not really worth forma-ing stuff until you put a catalyst in whatever it is first.

With forma alone (and max ranked mods) you cannot make use of all 8 mod slots. You'll get 5 slots max.

I have two classes of weapons I forma.  The "necessary stuff" for endgame play (like one shot kitguns and zaws) and the stuff I just really like.  Once you reach later levels, you'll still have to do low and regular level missions for various reasons (farming, Nightwave completion, etc).  You might as well do these with the weapons you really, really like.  Personally, I love the Obex, they are just a little underpowered for higher level stuff.  However, with several forma, they are great for mid tier stuff and I just like the way the combos look.  The Ogris is in the same category for me, I LOVE the sound it makes when firing.

Seriously, most weapons are more than decent of handling the game so it comes down to preference at the end of the day. Forma isn't also not rare or hard to obtain so don't be afraid to change your mind.

when you need more capacity in your weapon and you've already put a potato in it. that's basically it. forma is free and farmable, surely feels a little precious for beginners, but it isn't really in the long run.

edit: i suppose you should wait if there's a prime/wraith/vandal/syndicate/etc. variant that is within your grasp, but if you won't be able to get/use it for several more MR levels, there's no harm in formaing a vanilla weapon. just wiki the thing you want to upgrade and see if there are better versions.

I love the fulmin as well and forma ing as i write this. Make sure u try building one forma a day though, as 24 hours a piece...
