Switching between traps, scanner and your weapons using the gear wheel is annoying and difficult for beginners.

Instead the Simalris Scanner should fire traps (if you have any, whether they are on the gear wheel or not) on alt fire.

This is more in line with how fishing/hunting works, and is especially useful on console where shortcut buttons are very limited (basically left and right d-pad).

This could be a widget on the scanner, but I think it should just be the default behaviour.

It would also help that if you melee with a Simaris scanner equipped, you don’t unequip your Simaris scanner for whatever reason since the implementation of Melee 2.75 with gun&melee quick swap.

It's ok, OP, it took me ages to figure out you could map gear wheel hotkeys, too...😂

Edit: oof, did not see the XB1 part of your name...using gear wheel items on console does seem like a nightmare, this might be a great idea...

It's a nice little qol for PC too, afaic.  Just about anything that cuts down on the number of gear items I need to hotkey would be welcome.

Brilliantly simple idea.  (see also:

Yeah, that post gave me the inspiration.

Yeah, that feels like an annoying bug. The scanner should be like an equipped weapon, switch to melee and then aim and you're back to the scanner.

It also appears to have become 1 handed.

It's not too bad, mostly. You can bind gear wheel items on X1, but you only have the left and right d-pad free, everything else is already taken.

I've got it down to muscle memory now, after about 20 scan rivens. But it is still horribly clunky.

Thanks everyone for all the positive feedback 😀

Playing on console it's difficult to get to your gear wheel spring the trap while the target is running around like a psycho and everything with and without a weapon is trying to kill you this idea is the best thing I seen in a while and it got me to post a comment for the first time it would be awesome if they implemented it ingame especially for console gamers

I know this would be hard for consoles, but i hot key my scanner and traps 5 and 6 on my keyboard.

I would add and suggest however that someone in a trap shouldnt be able to be shot. At least not by my automatic firing drone who sees a threat and starts shooting at it. Ive lost or almost lost a scanable target because either my drone is shooting at, I hit trap and it sometimes magicaly switches to scanner (though sometimes it doesnt) and i myself shoot it, or i got some newb emptying there hand cannon into the guy because they dont know what im doing, either way it would be nice if there in a trap not to be able to be shot. Or even have them take far less damage while in a trap that way you still could kill it for being foolish but it would take much longer to do so.

You can do this on consoles too, but only the left/right d-pad is not already used, so if you use them for scanner/traps you can't quick select pads/archwing/etc.

As the sentinel weapons are such garbage I generally have them as stat spreaders. I'd be really surprised to see a build that could kill anything.

Khora's two kavats tend to make very short work of them though.

I think they should just scale with the enemies in the level - when you first get the scanner you don't have anything that can hurt them, by Sedna they're about the same level as all the other enemies, and if you're running Saryn, Equinox, etc they'll be dead before you even see them.

I use destructor releveled 3 times

Fevor strike, Shocking touch, Molten impact,Fury, Heavy trauma,Berserker,Pressure point,Smite grineer.

Thats my grineer build for it. It does a 184ish impact 180ish corrosive damage.

That isn't actually very much for a slow melee weapon.

Here's something to try: put all the Gladiator set mods that you can on Deconstructor. The set bonus from those mods affects your main melee weapon. Build that melee weapon so that it can take advantage of stacking crit and you will do tens of thousands more damage.

Meanwhile, I'd take all the attack precepts off Helios he won't fire but the set still applies and he won't aggro enemies.
