At What Part of The Game Do You Think The Majority of NEW Players Quit The Game?

Recommended Posts

I invited 3 friends to join and they have all given up as they cannot progress because they keep getting slaughtered by the three Altra attackers. Shouldn’t there be an opt out option for new players?

I've noticed this too on my low MR accts. These guys are wildly out of sync with the difficulty new players face. You can win, depending on your loadout--and to some degree, your game knowledge and skill--but these guys are cancer to low MR players for the laughably miniscule rewards they provde. Recommend fleeing from them if you can, or kiting them around if they threaten an objective.

My guess is the moment they opened the market or started crafting something or hit their weapon/warframe slot limit is when they went "#@&% this P2W crap, I'm out."

Pretend for a second that you don't have the option of using the horribly flawed trade functions in game to make free platinum.  How would you see slot limits alone then?

We keep cursing the beginning for being "confusing" but the real problem is that the game presents itself like every other F2P on the market - A blatant cash grab filled with unnecessary inconveniences to make a quick buck.

Seriously though, how big a portion of DE's profits are item slots?  Would it really break the bank to make sure all new players can at least carry 20% of the equipment in game without ever spending a platinum?

Bonus: I imagine a fair few of them drop off when they realize a lot of collectibles are locked behind a vault door, three items of which no longer available with no plans to return for the foreseeable future.

I imagine a few more still said, "nope" when weapons didn't follow the bog standard "look for green arrows" setup and they had to collect cards and increase mod capacity to use those cards (while grinding to upgrade said cards as well.)

- A tutorial that doesn't really explain anything,

- The market that has plat prices in the front, making it seem P2W,

- The terrible matchmaking that makes new players play with veterans, that just run through the entire map or delete every enemy making them bored,

- The horrible drop chances of literally anything,

- Time for crafting,

- Repetitivness of the missions,

- Broken scaling,

- Plains of Eidolon and Fortuna (which are clearly not for new players) being available at the very beginning,

- No sense of direction of what to do after the Vor's prize,

- The limited equipement slots, making them either stop progression to get plat or spend money on the game,

- The mission rewards that aren't worth the time.

Probably missed some points. I remember once I showed a friend, who just got in Warframe, the secret rooms... But when asked what are they for or what do we get from it, I didn't have an answer.

Hello Tennos. I'm quite a new player in Warframe. 1 month + and 400+ hours. At the begining i encountered the first real problem..that mouse sensitivity..you know what i'm talking about :)) got dizzy imediately.second thing was like " ummm now what?" I got slapped by a big question mark cuz of the lack of a propper tutorial. DE is lucky i'm a curious man and i like easter eggs and to discover the game. The next part that pissed me off after i "started" the game( i think you really start the game after 10+ hours) was those damn colour palettes. After that i got hit really hard with the mods and leveling. That's not a big deal cuz overall the game is nice and it is free to play..so i gave it a shot..or two..or...a long shot. What i think new players get slammed by in this game is the lack of info and "how to". Another thing i think is stupidly broken is the price of catalysts or the missions to get them. As a new player obviously you need better and better gear and if they put catalysts as a prize in high level missions how could i as a new player get them if i don't have a good weapon to fight for it? Or the Mastery Rank tests.. I'm currently blocked at rank 8 cuz the 9th test is bugged or over my skills to do it. Cuz the "real" weapons start at rank 10 imo. Oh..i even finished all the planets nodes and did 1 arbitration..with a huge amount of luck and ofc some veterans in squad :D. I still didn't figured out how some of the mods work..or how to get better mods or even which are the good mods but that's not a problem cause i know I'm gonna figure them out eventually. So DE..my opinion as a new player..who likes warframe and is willing to give it more than one chance...if you read this..think more from a player's perspective. Whoever wants to buy plat..will buy it. heck..i even bought Hildryn just to do thermial fractures. I bought plat to get more warframe slots..i will probably buy more in the future.. but i don't want to buy cuz i'm restrained..i want to buy it cuz i like the game. So..for the end of this message i ask one thing.. please make mastery rank 9 easier xD so i can enjoy the game.

" I made four accounts because every time I'd start again I was so lost I was certain I'd need to run the tutorial again. Every time I'd just be confused about what to do, where to go, and ultimately get bored after a few hours and quit. "

Check the guides, you can use several tricks to make it easier, like putting on more enemy radar mods to see where all the enemies are and using gunblade to kill them form a distance or using one specific weapon from Umbra quest (if you've reached it)

Oh i got umbra like in the second week of playing .i tried yesterday alot with skiajati's invisible thing and succeeded many times in practice. I think i saw any possible videos for MR9. The weird thing happens in the actual test not in practice mode.they see me with their secret eyes on their back or from too far away. I just started banshee research in tenno lab but that will take me 10 days to build her just to test if i can do it with her and the redeemer..and that's just not nice. I'm gonna try again today with more practice ofc.. what i hate already is why did they put such a "hard" test before rank16.. just to make us new players quit? Or to keep us from the real fun that comes with high rank weapons?

Idk, man. I just went through the level bullet-jumping and assassinating them by just watching where they were facing. Maybe trying to cheese it is making it harder?

Use Wisp. If you don't have her, get her.

Her passive make her invisible while she's jumping. So all you have to do is stay in the air by jumping and jumping, and kill your target with a slam attack.

It's the opposite. They make their money from inpatient new players that want everything instantly.

You want to tell me where you got that part from? That seems highly unlikely.

From what I can tell, it mostly comes from people who don't want to waste time farming with platinum (Prime access) and those wanting to make their frames look cool by purchasing cosmetics. If you're at that point, you're probably somewhat experienced.

Most impatient new players would just quit if they're frustrated, no?

My few comments vs multiple pages, hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Also i got it from the fact that's what EVERY game like this does. They put roadblocks like having to wait 12 hours to 3 days to get what you want or either pay to rush it or just pay for the weapon/frame you want. Warframe isn't any different than the rest.

Do you mean the zealots? They're honestly so annoying. I can kill them now that I have experience, but I would try to do a mission solo and have to stop everything I'm doing and extract or just quit out of frustration all due to 3 zealots coming at me.

...So you're saying that the majority of Digital Extreme's income comes from build times and rush costs? That seems really unlikely if you think about it. It doesn't help that Digital Extremes makes much more from cosmetics and Prime accesses/vaults.

What other games do this?

Not saying you're wrong, necessarily, but I haven't played even one that has build times measured in hours, let alone days. Do you have some experience with other games that do?

the moment you realize this game is every AAA game made by EA and mobile games, but with grind on steroids, and more manipulative methods for you to sprung and spend money, the only difference is, they have good PR, and a cult of white knights

And better gameplay, generally better story, lots of in-game stuff to do despite the QQ from those who have played for 5+ years, and that the PR is well deserved on account of actually listening to the community on most important matters (if only they would for the AH, though)...

if you think warframe story is good you lack culture my dude, is as generic as stories go, they never went consistent in the world they created, the quests are so detached from the world so lacking in proper introduction and integration is just painfull, after the second dream it all went downhill, the story is a giant fanfic mess with no consistency, the gameplay was good, around update 12, now, well, lets just say that is so full of RNG walls, grind walls that can be skipped by paying bs premium currency,  slot machines rivens, lootboxes relics,  it might as well be a damn casino, and lets not forget their criteria for taking feedback, in the good old days they used to actually listen to the community (making surveys and stuff), now you get certain devs even mocking players and being dismissive of the feedback they don't want to hear, and when they finally get to listen is just to pay attention to say for example a simple twitter of someone to screw the rest of the community who wanted certain thing to happen, nope lets just listen to a random guy on twitter instead of all of the people asking for months on a certain feature

Here's a good idea: ask support to delete your account. That way you don't feel tempted to come back.

You missed the part where I said it was better than most of that AAA trash that comes out these days. It's not hard to find examples that are better than WF, but as f2p games go, WF does a lot of things better than a lot of AAA games.

Edit:

Just read the rest of his posts. He missed the part about this thread being "Why NEW players quit," not "Why vets get frustrated." That, and he just wants to whine.

For me the biggest issues at the beginning were:

  • Limited number of slots
Considering the huge number of weapons and frames
  • Credits
WIthout access to Neptune it's not easy to get a significant amount of credits
  • The Nightwave enemies spawning and slaughtering me
At a time were I still had to replace some of my flawed starter mods those guy were way too strong

Slots is the biggest issue because plat is the ONLY way to get them.

Zealoids are a b*tch, but you can get around it by kiting them, playing in a squad, or asking if some veteran wouldn't mind donating a r6 or r8 serration/hornet strike/vitality etc. You'd be surprised how small of an ask it is and how much it can help in the early game.

Credits is the easiest issue here, but still grindy, because you can unlock the Dark Sector nodes up through Ceres and get some decent credits there. Booster helps too, but that goes back to the plat issue.

Actually, NW gives slots. And the Evergreen login Rewards can give Slots.

Granted: very, very, VERY limited and every 4ish months. And no assurances it will be the one you want when NW itself starts. Or you have to login for a long time to have a chance of getting them.

But plat only is no longer the only way... even though its far more viable to just buy them.

This is just an observation.

The slots you get from NW are one time--not repeatable--which is why I didn't count it. What significant difference is there to a new player whether he has 4 slots or 6 in a game with something like 500 weapons?
