Looking for texture \material tips for rhino helm

Hello I was wondering how I should assign or setup my textures for a rhino helm Im working on.
I was going to set it up so the different parts of the models texture could be changed in game such as energy, accents, or base color and so on.

Is there a certain way I need to do that? or does DE do it for me?
Also I would like to get some community feedback on the model if possible.

I have started the texture process and really need to know how it is that textures are assigned different colors in the game? is there a certain color that is best to use for most of the model or can I texture it however I want and DE makes the changes so it can be colored?
