TheResult Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Alright, so-- I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, Alerts work like this: Every time an item shows up in an Alert, it becomes less likely that it will show up in a future Alert ( or a different item gets a better chance to show up in a future Alert ), which means every passing Alert gives us a better chance of getting an item that hasn't shown up in a while. And I can agree with that idea, it sounds like a pretty good system. The unfortunate part is that these Alerts keep going deep into the night. And we all run on different timezones, and we all have to sleep at some point; trust me, I'd stop sleeping if I could. It's no easy feat. So making an item have a good chance of showing up at 4 or 5 AM when somebody is sleeping or working at that time is pretty frustrating, as the item will reset itself on the list and it'll have a low chance of showing up again any time soon. My suggestion is simply to have separate RNG rolls for A.M. and P.M.; two different RNG rolls for every 12 hours in a day, I assume in whatever timezone DE is running. That way, if an item shows up when half your players are sleeping, it doesn't just reset itself on the list-- they still have a good chance of the item showing up on Alert during the other 12 hour set, when they'll probably be awake again.

This isn't a bad idea. It definitely seems to cause a lot of animosity within the fanbase. Perhaps they could have the alert system work in 12 hour segments - ie all the alerts that showed up between 00:00 and 11:59 in DE local time (which should be EST) are logged and reissued between 12:00 and 23:59 or vice versa. There may be some complaints about people getting to do rare alerts twice, like a catalyst alert or something - but honestly, if they have the ability to be online at any point of any day they probably have most of what they want anyways. +1
TheResult Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 I considered that first, too-- that was going to be my original suggestion, but like you said, if people know when a second alert is going to show up ( and an important one shows up early in the morning ) then they can farm two. And I'm pretty sure DE doesn't want people doing that, or else the Alert system wouldn't be what it is right now, anyway. So if they just make the AM and PM alert rolls separate, there's still a randomness to it, and it can't be farmed.
Thanatoasty Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 why can't we implement a tracker on the alerts? just tell the system that you've done this particular alert already and that it should spring you a secondary set of prizesbump because I'm tired of missing the cool stuff because I can't be an (almost) immortal space ninja that doesn't need sleep...
r3dzer0 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I think they should boost the duration of certain rare alerts, mostly the ones for catas and reactors to a 6-12 hour time frame(much like they do on their livestream alerts). This would alleviate atleast some of the pressure on the player base to constantly hover around their pc waiting for one to drop as their heads are propped up by energy drinks and mountain dew cans that have long since been emptied.

If they mark a player as completing the alert already, it simply wouldn't show up on the second time around. In which case it makes the system bullet proof. Double the rare alerts, half the time cycle, and repeat it twice. Brilliant.
TheResult Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 If that's just as easy to code, or even easier, then that'd be perfect. In the end, it's up to DE which way is worth their time-- but it'd be really beneficial if they used any of these suggestions, honestly. We have to sleep some time.
Liminal Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Sounds good. I don't see a problem with this at all (then again I'm not a master of foresight).
