Can you farm specific mods

I've  watched and read about how to build this frame or that, or that weapon or this ... but I don't have the mods they say to use. 

Short of finding someobevselling them do I just have to play the game in hopes they will be dropped someplace?

Are there places more likely to have specific mods?

Use the wiki and look at the missions. you will want to pick one that has a high drop rate and you don't mind farming. I sometimes take little lower drop rate over sanity of mission type.

I think you have to find them first or scan the enemies enough times to learn their loot drops...but...

Codex -> Mods  this has a list of all mods and keeping the above sentence in mind it shows exactly what enemies or places they drop at.... Enemy locations can be learned from Codex -> Factions -> search.

This is also how I find out where new relics are located.  Codex -> Relics -> scroll to the bottom to the greyed out ones I dont have yet.

Wiki is probably best bet but thats out of game.  Codex you can do in-game.
