How does focus & operator work together?

Might be a basic question but havent really looked into it aside from the very basic info after a certain quest and tacking zenurik lens onto various frames and weapons (and using operator vs kuva siphons).not looked into Amps yet either.

Focus is like Affinity, you earn it from kills while you have the focus buff you pick up during missions. Focus is used to acquire skills for your operator. There is also a pool. The pool is the number of points that are available to allocate skills that you upgrade. It also needs focus to increase. Each school has 2 way-bounds that you can unlock and allocate regardless of which school is active.

quickly levelup your amp, then get immediately a better one and go hunt Eidolons: you'll get millions of focus and valuable loot that you can sell in trade chat for platinum.

Worth mentioning that the focus received is through the shards taken after each cap/kill. You'll need to use those in the focus menu to get focus.
