SpiderSal
Hi everyone, I'm having some trouble with ping issues with me and my partner, who live together and play on the one router. We're getting ping of about 600 - 700 ms. We've done all the standard -- making sure we're both playing in the same region (Oceania), that we're using different ports (he's using 4950 - 4955 and I was using 4980 - 4985), and that we can reach each other over the local network -- a ping of about 2-3 ms total on average when pinging each others' IP addresses. I understand that we're probably encountering something of 'PC 1 --> server --> PC 2' round trip issues, but this only started a few days ago. On top of that, when playing alone or with international friends, the ping isn't this high (usually a maximum of about 300 ms ping with friends in the UK; we're both in Australia). Does anyone have any idea what's going on? It's getting really frustrating and making it difficult to play together. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 99Moon_Dancer
seems like the issue is caused by the ISP routing the traffic But dont worry I have the same issues the Routing is sometimes so bad for me that I have to use an VPN to get a lobby or better ping in most games
SpiderSal
In case anyone ever finds this and has a similar issue, I solved it in the end. It turns out that my partner and I hadn't set up port forwarding correctly in our router and my network traffic was set to block unknown incoming traffic in my firewall (not sure if that was part of the issue). We made sure that we had set up ports 4950-4955 to go to him and 4980-4985 to go to me, and the problem dissolved. 20 ms ping! Good luck to anyone else with issues.
