BoompigXD Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Except that the Boar spread covers, like, half the screen. Yes, but it has less Damage fall-off
zerogear5 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Machete is horrible - it is the worst of the Swords. The Boar is a fun weapon, but definitely the gimp of Shotguns. There is no reason whatsoever to pick Ether Daggers over Dual Ether because damage type (Blade vs. Serrated Blade). machete has a unique animation for attacking and is is already accepted prime versions of weapons usually out class all other melee weapons boar is different playstyle and has a prime version so getting rid of it makes zero cents to remove it currently. as for ether versions why put effort into removing them just keeping them in would literally change nothing.
Brimir Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 The Machete's animation is buggy though.
Rajko Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 FWIW, The Gorgon is one of my favorites. In my wee two man clan, it's usually my Gorgon and my pal's Soma. Both forma'd to 4 affinity slots. His focuses on crits (obviously) and mine focuses on speed and penetration. Soma is slightly better against single targets, and my gorgon is quite a bit better with crowds. I'm disappointed it's being retired. I love the vaguely robotech model it has, and hope that the style it and the Kraken have sees even more cool new pieces. I do think that it requires a lot more work than some other long guns to come into itself, but.. I've been wondering for a while after looking at the forums... What does DE base 'normal play' as? I can't imagine it could POSSIBLY be the same thing as some of these forum posts are talking about, with players concerned about Nova being too strong after wave 100+. I can see how anything is gonna seem broken held up against the infinite scale of that play style.
Mak_Gohae Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Is there actually any official statement regarding as to why they are being retired or if we are going to see them ever again? Because if their plan is to just delete every "old" weapon instead of making it viable then.... Rebs said it in Ep 1 of Prime Time with DE Megan.
EvilSummoner Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 How to balance your game: just delete everything. Good job DE.
Froh Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 How to balance your game: just delete everything. Good job DE. Well for now we don't know what are their plans about theses weapons. They could end up as rewards.
Acos Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I don't see much reason not to take away weapons that are so sub-par that nobody is using them. It fits in with the idea that all weapons in the game should be viable, yet unique. When you have that a high saturation of under-preforming weapons from your early beta days you can't exactly go about bringing them all up to par and still hoping they'll be unique. Maybe the Gorgon should get another pass since so many people seem to like it, but I don't really care about any of the rest of these weapons.
Brasten Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 (edited) Well for now we don't know what are their plans about theses weapons. They could end up as rewards. It would be nice to tell the testing community what those plans are, especially when DE credibility is so low its starting to dip into the red. ==== To all those not getting why this is bad. One of the BIG real money parts of Warframe is collection and time investment in favorite items. It is one reason why Slots are one of the few things that is ONLY cash based, and why there are so few starting When items get removed from access it becomes questionable if those items will continue to receive balance changes to keep them relevant. If they are out of availability it is very easy for DE or any Developer to ignore them and just forget about them. This means items people put time and money into get discarded. This, along with power creepy things like the Soma and early Prime weapons (they're getting better about not being straight upgrades) are damaging to long term. They fly in the face of one of the core aspects of Warframe. The use of those Orokin Catalysts and Reactors to 'super charge', plus slot investment, and recently the use of Forma (time more than money there). As much as DE would like to think they've built a loot based dungeon crawler, that isn't strictly true. By adding leveling to weapons and time investment they've change the equation. Unlike WoW or Diablo or even Torchlight, the warframes and weapons of Warframe get time and resource investment which makes dropping them for the latest OP 'keep them playing with shinnies' round of additions is a much harder blow then just chucking your +2 Rat Whomping Stick for a +3 Orc Poking Tongue Depressor. Cabadath5 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 (edited) Rebs said it in Ep 1 of Prime Time with DE Megan. WAIT so they are COMPLETELY retiring them?As in NEVER AVAILABLE AGAIN? If they are really going to do that I'm gonna be REALLY ticked off.Is it really THAT hard for them to fix the stats for a few weapons? On the other hand, I bet we will get another horribly OP weapon with next weeks update.Imagine if this game actually put more priority on PvP if it's that hard for them to fix a few things when the game is PvE oriented.... Basing this on totally nothing................................... These are probably weapons that are never really used so why not just make some space? I havent used the Boar in a long time, i never picked up the daggers, i built the machete but never claimed it. I did recently picked up the Gorgon for a few runs after a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time of it not being used.

I know this doesn't affect me in any way.Heck, I got 4 or so Gorgon blueprints from login rewards. But it's a blow dealt to weapon diversity for new players. It's bad enough that a lot of people use only Soma and Acrid these days. Why not just make some space?WHAT space?Market space?I doubt they are going to delete them out of the game since there are still players that have not submitted to our Soma/Acrid/Galantine overlords and are still using those weapons. Egg_Chen Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Why not just fix these rather than tuck them away into oblivion? This, but also as people have spent money on these items, perhaps you should be fixing them anyway?

I'm not saying that i didnt use them because they had bad stats or whatever else i simply didnt use them. My point is that there are enough weapons in the game that people gather a group that they like and these are probably not in the group of a lot of people. I personally have no problem with the Gorgon cause i have the rifle mutator mod so i could keep that gun going without the need for ammo recharge. I
OblivionNecroninja Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 It's kinda weird for them to remove the Boar right after adding a Prime for it. I really don't like that they're removing the Dual Ether Daggers instead of just doing the easy fix and making them ignore armor like other Ether weapons.
c.BOLTSON Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Its just a weapon guys, and this is beta. I don't claim to know why they are changing the gorgon and such all I know is I'm happy I have one. I just bought the blue prints for the other weapons too.
Shehriazad Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Some people saying this game has too many weapons....you kidding me? There is only 1 legit weapon for every weapon type...and some don't even have any choice. Like snipers...there is only 1 real option automatic rifles? Soma or bust Melee? Well feel free the Galatine or the Orthos prime....disregard everything else The only weapon type with multiple legit choices seems to be pistols - Throwing weaponry, Gremlins, Acrid yadda yadda The last thing this game needs is even less choice....so I really hope that those weapons will get replacements so the numbers dont even shrink any further..... Honestly speaking...after playing this game for 2 1/2 weeks I had trouble deciding on what to build next since all the good stuff has aready been built....

Will you be happy to have one when it is completely forgotten in terms of balance because it has been retired? Oh, and Beta is not an excuse for bad decisions, even if some players accept it too easily. I have spent money on potatoes for some of these weapons, others will have brought the weapons outright with platinum. Edited October 12, 2013 by Egg_Chen
TheSphynx Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Here is a theory. Notice a few of the weapons they are "retiring" are Grineer. Of all the Clan Buildings, the Grineer Lab (Chem Lab) has the least amount of weapons. Also to note, Corpus enemies use the weapons you can get from the Corpus Lab (Energy Lab) in the Dojo. Grineer use the only 2 in the Chem Lab. Maybe, since Grineer enemies also use the Gorgon, Boar, and Machete, they will be greatly buffed and put into the Chem Lab. Just a theory.
Teorina Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Sorry if I missed it in here but does someone have a link to this annoucement as I can't find the original post?

I'd be happier about the change if this was correct, but I doubt it. For one, the Boar is a Tenno weapon, we have just had a prime version, and I don't see any Grineer using the original Boar (maybe they did previously?) So even if the theory is correct on the Gorgon and Machete, it's not on the other two. Nice thought though Sphynx :) Of course 4 days later, including two working days after the patch, and not a word of explanation from DE on the subject. I originally applauded the move to Wednesday updates, but I'm struggling to see the benefit now, we are still left in the dark for long periods after an update. Think they might need to employ a Community Manager.

Just log in and look at the market. Notice the "Last Chance!"-stickers on these weapons. Or just check the Hump Day patchnotes.

While i like the idea of adding enemy weapons to research being the only way to obtain them, back tracking is not the way to go.
Valiant Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Not sure what they are doing. I remember them saying they wanted to keep adding new weapons for more variety before creating new weapon skin/models for existing weapons. Seems that has gone out of the window like other things mentioned in the livestreams...
