(NSW)H0rst
So I came across something which I didn't knew before. Apparently, matchmaking is not based on region alone (which I set to north america manually, hoping to find more squad mates). It seems to be tied to the system language as well. My clan mates recommended changing the language to English, which I didn´t expect to change much. However, since I switched from German to English, I see way more flotillas online and I also get random squad mates for Sorties even if I start them 12 hours after the reset. This never happened to me before, when German was the system language. Is this intentionally? It seems very weird to me, since there are only a few German speaking people playing warframe, but a lot English speaking people. Also, communicating with other players (other than ¨switch to mesa pls¨ or whatever) isn´t a major part of this game. Usually everyone prefers playing with other people, even if they don´t speak your language, over playing alone. Therefore, my recommendation is to make matchmaking only dependent from region, but not from system language. Any opinions?
kapn655321
Many players switch their region for the greater population in North American servers, but the language barrier can be a frustration.. I'd assume more so for the players in less populated regions, as they have to give up the ability to communicate in order to find parties easily.. on PC it works by region, but it would seem on switch it works on language, which is interesting. I'd say neither one tends to be a perfect solution, but it's certainly an good question. I wonder if in using both methods as they do, they're finding greater success in one model over the other. Well, there is no point in switching the region to NA if I only get matched with those who choose the combination NA and German. Also, I'm fine with playing warframe in English. But, it is stupid that this way I am forced to change the whole console's language to English. There should be an option in game to change the language if the language stays the criterion for matchmaking.

While you're fine with it, many are not so capable of breaching the language barrier near as fluidly as you do. For them, they'll find their experience to be one where they're an outlier with an uncooperative party who can't and won't listen to them. If they feel that's the best chance they have at enjoying the game in one right, they'll find it woefully lacking in others.. (namely, a reliable multiplayer experience with team players, much like they were seeking before.)

(namely, a reliable multiplayer experience with team players, much like they were seeking before.) I have never met anyone in this game who wasn't able to understand "pick this warframe" or "use this dmg type against this enemy". It's not Shakespeare level English, it's just simple instructions. Look at LoL for example, language has never been an issue there. Matchmaking was based on region alone. Pick EUW and you get thrown in a team with German, French, Spanish and so on. Doesn't matter because everyone understands the necessary instructions in English. I'm still fine with playing warframe in English for the sake of matchmaking, but having to play every other game in English, too, feels unnecessary. And this is what happens if you change the system language.

I don't think you'd find the same result depending the region, but you seem far more sure of your assumption than I care to bother with. Best of luck with your matchmaking.
