bobafetthotmail Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 there is no "port merge". PS4 is basically a PC running a tailored OS now. No more weird architecture hardware. It's all AMD stuff now (also the new Xbox, coincidentally). But yeah, with this broken system, it's going to be fun to see when gazillions of dumb kids with various degrees of crappy connections start becoming the overwhelming majority of the playerbase (gaming platforms usually sell much more than PCs, because they are dumbed down and easier to use)
bosstnt Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 warframe has apparently 4 million players and none of them spend a sent on this game so obviously they cant afford a few servers.
bobafetthotmail Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) serious game servers cost more than you may think, as they actually do a ton of number-crunching that is at th moment handled by the Host. It's not just dumb cloud storage like what they have now, which is relatively cheap. They don't have enough cash to get enough devs working at the game and you expect them to hire at least 3 serverfarms in US, Europe and Asia? Afaik, all games with dedicated servers like that are either subscription-only or suck balls or both. Edited October 14, 2013 by bobafetthotmail

Game servers cost less than u think to rent and yes like every1 else i'm stupid enough to expect them to fix their crap hosting issues.
BloodKitten Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 i get some complaints as void host (also frame rate drops as host), why cant i have an option "choose player with best connection as host" yet? its half the reason i rather look for T3 mobile defense rather then get keys to host it (other half cause boar prime reciver reward rate is stupid)
dancingknight Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I quit countless times on account of the crappy invite/host system. The majority of the time, I'm playing solo because I can't get invited to squads. Honestly, this is the one part of the game that really kills it for me. I've voiced my concern as countless others have done so in countless other similar threads with nary a sign of improvement. Hopeless really.
Alohoe Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 lets keep this thread active. maybe it will make it onto the hot topics of the week and get some much needed DE attention.
NalkorRN Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 warframe has apparently 4 million players and none of them spend a sent on this game so obviously they cant afford a few servers. No it doesn't. If it had 4 million players, it would've made the news. Just like World of warcraft gets mentioned and how Grand Theft Auto V made the news to the point that my parents who are baby boomers know exactly what game I was talking about when I mentioned it.
DaddysHome Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 jup it's sad try playing with 3 friends .... we can all host, but it's allways one who can't get in so sick and tired
NoShoes Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 +1 the lobby system is atrocious and inviting people with long names is a massive pain. Another huge problem is that after a void mission or an invited alert mission the party disbands meaning that you have to open your contacts list and manually find your most recent players if you want to play with them again, that and the chat log is also gone so you can't even ask someone if they want to go again if you fail a mission. I hope they manage to sort out the lobby system so that you can choose the host in a custom lobby and that someone who isn't the host of the session can use their void keys without having to remake the lobby, in it's current incarnation the lobby system is so sloppy that I feel like playing a multiplayer game from the early 2000's over TCP/IP.

lautalocos Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Session not available, room full, being paired up with hosts that are on dialup from somewhere in South America (yes really). as someone from south america, i should point out that this is a doubled-edged blade. sometimes i wish to play with someone from SA to get a good internet connection, but it connects me with people from other continents which makes the game unplayable. "yadda yadda, south americans are ruining my fun!" well, north americans are ruining my fun too.
bobafetthotmail Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) yeah, everyone is ruining everyone's fun. Still DE's fault though, feel free to live in SA and have a dialup. I live in Italy and my DSL is just BARELY good enough to play, and is various degrees of S#&$ when hosting. Seriously, I was lagging french players. Edited October 15, 2013 by bobafetthotmail

bobafetthotmail Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) Using dialup is generally due to limitations of the network infrastructure, not because the user is poor. Even here in a (theoretically) first world country I would have been restricted to double-line ISDN (look it up if you don't know) unless a benign serverfarm owner decided to allow close-ish people to access the Internet through his servers's wide bandwith internet connection. (making some obvious profit) Just because I'm in a relatively rural area. Afaik, most third world countries are in a similar condition, in cities they get broadband, get a few km outside and you are stuck on dialup or forced to rely on mobile network. Even if they could easily afford the contract. So yeah, don't take it as "south americans are poor". It was just an exaggeration. Others have used Sweden for similar comparisons. Alohoe Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 i dont mind people with slow internet. i can just leave. you usually know within 20 or 30 seconds if its going to be a lagfest. i just want warframe to work like it is supposed to and let me invite my friends and clanmates without session bugs out the @ss.
FrostWolf Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 ... The Corpus Mobile Defense still breaks half the time.
mcryseria Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 A game marketed as a co-op multiplayer but ironicaly has the worst co-op multiplayer system there is.
Alohoe Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 A game marketed as a co-op multiplayer but ironicaly has the worst co-op multiplayer system there is. not the worst but pretty close. i wonder if it is fixable at all or just always going to be an issue as long as players host the game. maybe they really can't fix it. not sure why else it would have gone so long without being addressed.
FlameG102 Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) How about having actual dedicated servers or something? That would fix many of the problems. That said, "session unavailable" I swear that is the most rage inducing thing. I have so much trouble grouping up with people on my contacts. We can't do the orokin mission we want to do, because the only person who has those specific keys, cannot invite people. They just can't join her game. Edited October 15, 2013 by FlameG102
D3thpool Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Is it still this bad?Wow. Sure is great marketing the game as a coop experience & deliver poorly in the same department
bobafetthotmail Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 yeah, whoever though Vaults (forcing people to go online together on the same map, "teamwork" is a bit too much) were a good idea was clearly oblivious of this little detail.
Akateko Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Sadly the system is bad, the strict nat doesn't help either.

They are actually quite mediocre in what they offer, and yet you require 4 people with all 4 keys in order to beat the RNG. Edited October 15, 2013 by FlameG102
Sophista Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Heres something i think is related to OP problem... Solution To Connection/host Issues ?!
