They objectively do less damage than their secondary counterparts, with the exception of the GAZE.

Toomfinger (max crit max damage)

Mag: 23
Damage: 116 (pistol 180)

Gaze (max crit max damage)

First, the main concern should be DPS, not just damage. Rattleguts, e.g., has less damage per shot, but goes from 3.67 to 9.00 rounds per second. Catchmoon also almost triples its fire rate.

Second, the 116 damage on Tombfinger isn't the total damage, but the direct hit. On the secondary, this is 91 direct, 89 splash (versus 116 direct, 108/490 splash on the primary).

Third, I admit I haven't tried the weapons themselves, and it's important to put the weapons through modded scenarios, since secondaries and primaries have different mod values and loadout combinations (e.g. Vigilante set, which can be thrown on a sentinel weapon, affects primaries).

How did you miss the fact that 90% of higher MR use catchmoon?

DId you sleep the past months?
Catchmoon was nerfed so hard i hardly see ANYONE using it.

The damage falloff is so massive now its almost a melee weapon.

Bro... do you see the 33%+ crit stats? and % status chanse that actualy will trigger from time to time? Compare it to the late(may RNGesus have you in his grace) soma prime(https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Soma_Prime). That was meta and stil can deal with most content in the game.

Not every weapon has to 1 shot the wolf you know that right?

Don't worry, the gaze has less than half the range of its secondary counterpart (pistol = 37 metres, primary = 17 metres; both are using the equivalent grip part with second highest range and second lowest damage - ramble for pistol and shrewd for rifle) and also lacks the chaining functionality which made the pistol so very nice (the AoE is tiny and does not make up for it, this translates to a large drop in multi-target DPS).

Sure, it's got a slightly higher single-target DPS... before you add on the primed crit mods which secondaries can have and rivens whose disposition isn't so bad as to make them worse than the ordinary dual stat mods which are far easier to get (seriously, why are they even allowed to go that low?).

The tombfinger - that one's fun. Explosions always are. Especially when my explosion thrower will now never run out of ammo. It's like an ogris, but with infinite ammo.

true. there is literally 0 reason to take primary kitgun because of how lame the stats compared to secondary. and when you go from paper stats to full build including way more powerful secondary mods and secondary arcanes, new kitgun primary becomes not even close in dps and utility wise :/
