DeadlyShadow Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) Ok, before you start throwing rocks at me, listen. I've seen a lot of people (including me) asking for a covering system for both combat and stealh, and many others saying that the cover would breack the fast pase of the game.As a veteran in the Warframe's beta I want to propose a solution, How about an "Intuitive covering system" like the one used in many games like The Saboteur and RE: Operation Raccon City, for those who don't know how it works i't simple, you just walk towards a wall and the character puts his/her back to it, taking cover automaticly. The interesting of this system is that you just move the character away from the wall, will immediately get out fo cover, that way you're not snapped to the wall, the flow of the game is not interrupted, can stealth through missions and avoid damage and wait ´till your shields recharge. Everyone's happy, I'm happy. What do you think? Edited December 31, 2012 by DeadlyShadow
ApokalypsBZH Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I've played these games and I can tell that this is the worst thing that can happen. You are always snapped to walls when you don't want to, or when you want to take cover you char just stands still like a retard. I don't want no cover system in warframe, but if sometime one is to be implemented, it would be 100 times better with a separate key.

That's clearly the best solution, but many people were complaining about that too, I just wanted to give an alternative, Chill out ok? Besides the system is good, you just hold the key towards the wall and take cover, and the most imprtant thing, YOU'RE NOT SNAPPED TO THE WALL YOU CAN IMMEDIATLY GET OUT OF COVER, read first ok? Sealgaire Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Another thing to keep in mind is that these games were designed from the beginning to have a cover system, and they still screwed it up. Warframe is already in beta and it would take a huge amount of time and money to incorporate it into the design at this point. Not trying to be condescending, but it seems most people overlook the whole issue of resources when it comes to adding features to games. Hell, look at Blizzard. They have almost unlimited resources at their disposal and they still couldn't make team deathmatch in Diablo 3 work, and it was something they were planning from early in development, not something proposed near the end.

Wow wow I didn't mean no harm ^^. As I said I played these game, I own ORC, and the system is S#&$ty for the reasons I told. It just doesn't work well and you don't have 100% control of your character.
Bang_Doll Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I think a covering system of kind is needed, but it has to be very low-key. Honestly I would probably be OK with my damn warframe just crouching when I tell him to crouch as I fire, instead of that weird pop-up move he kinda does with his head sticking way up. I think what we really need is more vertical maneuverability and space. With the ability to mantlet onto crates and other objects some of the best "cover" for my warframe has been up and above my enemies. It has been very useful on those few rooms you see during the game with the big stacks of crates you can climb up to, but enemies can't. Which makes me think... these ninjas need to wall run.

Would be also great if the delay between the jump and dodge animations be reduced or removed, sometimes I try to evade and feels odd

No worries, and you're right, If there will be a covering system, should be in a separate key, that's the best solution, this was just an alternative
Dreed Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 when u crouch behind something u should be able to stand up a little using right mouse. With this u can make nice covering fire when friend try flank mobs etc.. but if cover will be added mobs AI must be changed..

Sealgaire Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Define "these games." The cover shooters mentioned in the OP... Though to be honest, it's rare I find cover systems in any game to be that fun. Usually they end up being just a glorified game of whack-a-mole.
Takamori Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 don't agree , the game purpose is to be a cyber ninja gunning and swording everything. Not another MAREEHNNN TACTICOOL cover and shoot.
fides5566 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 This game shouldn't have a covering system because we're playing as a space ninja. But we feel like we need it because current game's mechanism dosen't encouraging you to running out of cover and slashing enemies AT ALL. You're going to die if you doing that. That's why we feel like we should have a covering system, which we shouldn't I call it a broken design.
HammerHead90 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Please, no cover system. If I want to play a cover shooter, I'd boot up any other game.
ZomaCaius Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 (edited) Actually have no cover system, with what we have now is good. You kind-of of have to improvise and calculate in your head if the pillar is enough cover, Walking to a Wall and suddenly stick to it like your magnetic , gets really Boring, like mass effect and Lost planet 1 and 2 Or any other game with Chest high walls. it makes it Bland, I have to agree with HammerHead90 here. it's just like all 3rd person shooters. i really like this machanic. and it should stay this way. You already have a shield, and having a system that takes Cover for you completely Eliminates the challenge. Edited January 7, 2013 by Yuicne
LemonKing Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Considering its based off the Dark Sector scripts, it could be reimplmented but Level layout would need to be reworked.
