PSA: Brightness Changes in Hotfix 28.0.6

from building on rover escort on ice planet. Strange mismatch of lighting + snow weather inside. It's one of those you check for marks when it comes up as a faction mission.

Like I mentioned, take them as a set and the inconsistency is more apparent.

Second iceset is much larger, so just linking to the gallery.

The first 2 images in the set are not my own - got them from a friend. What you want to look for in those 2 are how the icechunks on the floor are darker on top and brighter where they meet the floor.

The rest are my own. A collection of 'how could this be intended'. There are several of the same type to catch with and without enemies. One is almost normal, where I have my frame in a reasonable well-lit situation as a point of refence (game does not always look weird) - where you can just recognize a bit of overexposed bright blue in the distance.

can it get even worser. that's already beyond trash.

I hate this so much. Whose bright idea (pun intended) was this? Every time I think, "Well, they're just going to ignore all of the feedback in this thread (including my post), so I might as well get used to it," they actively make it worse with things like this.

So how much longer is this going to go on for? Why is it necessary to flashbang and blindfold the playerbase? What's wrong with putting back the old autoexposure option and letting us turn it off?

Some of the worst I've encountered yet. This is Jordas Golem on default 50% brightness and contrast. The map is dark dark and muddy looking, some halls were almost tough to navigate if I hadn't known the tileset so well. But at the same time Jordas is so overexposed and blown out you basically can't see him. I played this mission 5 times yesterday and every time it was like this.

I'm also in the process of starting a new clan which means lots of time spent in the dojo, where everything is so painfully bright I've taken to just turning down my monitor whenever I'm there.

@Fireshock @DoomFruit

We got this. *shrugs

Edit: Recent test shows that (in addition to all my other precautions) disabling dynamic lighting helps. At least my orbiter seems more stable, I haven't tested it. First time since I started playing WF that I switched it off. It didn't change the washed out operator faces though....... T-T
Every time I swap into the menu, I also get a black flicker in the screen.

Please fix the excessive flashing on mission start. Literally everyone is having it.

Only the Host will get Flashbanged on mission start, it doesn't effect clients.

Hence why I get blinded all the time I'm the host because of the Clannies crappy NBN. (HFC FTW)

This needs to be addressed.

It needs to be addressed, but from what I've seent these past two years, having officially flat-out quit playing in August; it won't be.

The same way that DE didn't address the stupidity of the asinine flashbang bloom added to arrow impacts and muzzle fire.

The same way that DE didn't address how quite a few formerly melee-loving players (myself IN PARTICULAR) sincerely preferred the entirety of the old control system and still find Melee 3.0's controls clunkier than we ever did 2.0's controls. And we weren't even given the option to retain that control scheme if we really did like the tap-hold-pause Combo system more. I miss it every day.

The same way that they've never adressed how Heavy Attacks are an inferior replacement to Charge Attacks; with a useless and annoying "float" mechanic that just replaces everything we hated about Titania's original Lantern skill; and how the old melee combo counter that universally boosted melee damage on ALL hits was better. That felt good. That made us feel like ninjas. And clearly, fun is not allowed for Tenno.

The same way that they've never addressed where the blazes the third Orb Mother is; instead of continuing to have sit in her stupid coolant pond, and the moment that Deimos and FOMO B.S. with holiday events fails to keep drawing in new players to match those of us steadily leaving, they'll abandon it too. The same way they swept the first two open-world landscapes under the rug and just rehash the events in a cycle.

The same way that DE hasn't addressed how on top of ruining the controls for a huge chunk of players; Melee got over-buffed, and so many weapons are so stupidly strong with only Pressure Point and a random physical/elemental mod slapped on them, that there's no point at all to using the melee mod system, and therefore no longer any fun that we used to have customizing swords, axes, whips, etc. We asked for every category to be viable, not so swollen in stats they feel overpowered WITHOUT mods. "Heavy" categories like two-handed nikanas and Heavy Blades just feel like slow, clunky, weightless garbage now. When everything does several thousand damage for minimal effort, it isn't a good change.

THE SAME WAY THAT DE NEVER ADDRESSED HOW EVERY SINGLE PART OF THE LICHES AND THEIR ASSOCIATED SYSTEM IS AN ASININE GRIND AGAINST AN INFURIATING, DAMAGE-SPONGE NUISANCE THAT STEALS YOUR HARD-EARNED LOOT AND HAS ALL SORTS OF THE SAME B.S. WE ALREADY HATED IN FOES LIKE THE WOLF OF SATURN SIX. LIKE THE COMPLETE INABILITY TO FIGHT THEM EVEN WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED OVER-BUFFED MELEE WEAPONS, AND THEIR 3000 MPH UNDODGEABLE SUPLEX GRAB ATTACK.

The same way that, adding insult to the garbage that is the Lich system, DE never reverted Transmissions in the UI back to opaque and non eye-hurting instead of glowing searing-bright and being fuzzy-edged like a crappy streaming signal. Or got rid of the stupid Parazon and let us automatically use finishers with the E key again. OR EVEN MADE HACKING INSTANTANEOUS AGAIN, INSTEAD OF IT STILL HAVING THE REAL-TIME DELAY OF PRECIOUS SECONDS IT'S HAD EVER SINCE THE PARAZON WAS ADDED. To the void with that stupid, Assassin's Creed-knockoff, hideous plastic wrist knife. Hacking and finishers have both been infuriating and clunky ever since it was implemented.

The same way that on top of all this crap that's already driven me off from continuing to play, DE still hasn't fixed or even acknowledged:

-How Melee 3.0's "new" Combos are actually bastardized, Frankensteinian cut-and-pastes of the old Combo moves; instead of the prior, almost always better and smoother-to-use Combos we used to have. Tempo Royale, Wise Razor, Malicious Raptor, Swirling Tiger, and Vulpine Mask were butchered by 3.0. They look, feel, and handle like garbage now. And the other Stances weren't improved either. Many of them didn't need to be improved and people loved them already. Massive emphasis on the past tense.

-How Saint of Altra broke metal rendering completely as an update; and even 1.8 years later metal still looks like plastic, particularly Prime and Orokin materials, which should emphatically NOT look like that. The so-called patch not only failed to fix the issue of missing shine and shadows properly rendering, it only made metal look like oily plastic.

-How a stupid, blinding lens-flare flash not too different from my screenshot earlier in the thread got added in when The Old Blood finally restored the Sword Alone mechanic to melee (AND SWORD ALONE NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED IN PHASE 1 OF 3.0 IN THE FIRST PLACE). Every single time you draw any melee weapon or leave an Exalted, expect to be greeted by that stupid horizontal flicker of vomitous glowing. I hate it. I hate it the way I've come to hate what was once my favorite game.

-How DE have been dinging up and turning dirty and scraped Warframes' designs with no forewarning; and rather than making them look cooler or battle-hardened, the overzealous crap-ifying of the Frames merely makes them look like neglected rubbish that the Infested corrosively defecated on. Default Ash, Valkyr, Excalibur, Rhino, and Loki look awful now, and I wouldn't be surprised if the next step is to smear goop on even the primes or remove the "Wear and Tear" slider from customization of Railjacks and Orbiters.

-OVER 20 OTHER ISSUES I WON'T EVEN TYPE BECAUSE I KNOW THEY AREN'T GOING TO GET FIXED AND I REALLY, REALLY DOUBT THAT DE EVEN CARES ABOUT ANYTHING BUT THEIR MARGINAL PROFIT FROM PEOPLE BUYING OVERPRICED COSMETICS.

I used to love this game. But the Warframe of 2020 is an insult and crappy MMO-sucessor to the Warframe of 2014, and when something doesn't even LOOK good anymore, let alone isn't any fun to play anymore, I lose interest.

Nobody wants to play with a toy that gives them an epileptic seizure and punches them in the groin when they even glance in its direction. Warframe has become that nightmare toy. I've thrown it in the rubbish bin and I'm not sure if I'll ever be given cause to take it back out again and apologize.

I am daring the whole company, every developer up in Canada, to prove they actually care; that they read these blasted threads, that they will finally adress the slowly compounding train-wreck this has all become. And that they'll do it before they scare away any new players and slowly bleed out all of us that used to be here.

The asinine lighting is one of dozens of problems that have gone uncorrected with player feedback totally ignored. It should be addressed. For pete's sake and the sanity of all of you who still actually (attempt to) play Warframe, I hope it is addressed. But I genuinely doubt that it will, and DE has for the present time expended their once vast goodwill. I fear they're steadily declining into the next Tencent or EA. And since on of the two prior actually partially purchased Digital Extremes, I fear that my line of logic may be correct.

TL;DR: Games are big business. A product needs to be appealing, even a free-to-play one that only turns a profit from cosmetics or rush-buying resources. When people don't like a product or it causes them legitimate harm, they quit using it. This is a basic principle of the so-called free market of both the United States and Canada, and as the consumer, I've gotten sick of what I'm being shilled.

To finish my metaphor in honor of Halloween, which I can't even enjoy this year due to the pandemic:

Quit offering players raisins when we used to have candy. Quit promising a vacation and adding a chore. Quit the entire tedious, frustrating, utter attitude of apathy toward player feedback; it genuinely is ticking us off.

At this point, meaning month+ later and lots of feedback and evidence, WITH SILENCE FROM DE, there is no reason to give them any benefit of the doubt.

I'm done assuming good faith, now I assume absence of benevolence and morals on their part.
So, my take on that whiteout at mission start: a crutch that is meant to 'prime' the "exposure" algorithm, masked as a bad 'fade in' effect. Maybe that just is the bare bones algorithm - starting with a assumption that whitelevel and blacklevel are both 0,0,0 and slowly adapting from there like a crude "dynamic contrast" enhancement you'll find on some TVs, instead of telling it to start with white at FF,FF,FF.
What we should be expecting is having a better algorithm and setting it up correctly. And failing that, at least prime it on buffers that are not sent to the screen.

Lots of the stuff we are seeing, reeks of "bad fanart". I will explain. Stuff made by unqualified people who know not what they are meddling with.
Like fans flipping switches, turning knobs and taping things together on a complicated machine they did not build, do not understand and do not have the manual for. And most of the time do not have all the relevant access to either.

Except here, in the case of Warframe at DE, the reasonable expectation would have been that they do know and have complete access.
Visual evidence screams otherwise. Lots of stuff suggest that a bunch of putzes are allowed or even told to make bad content on it, no matter what it is capable of, and whoever is capable in there, is not allowed to punish them horribly when the smucks make them look bad in public.

But part of this is of course dodging the smelly mammoth. Even if we disregard this whole thread and many other big visual issues in the game, people play this game pretty much regardless of how it looks (have you looked at the warframes and ridiculous weapons or the various attachments, like really?). Basically it is a fun shooter/slasher where you have a lot of freedom in picking how dangerous or squishy enemies you want to stomp in throngs, a few forced things and lame invulnerability mechanics aside. With a lot more mobility/'parkour' than the traditional shooters.
To show a little hope and give the engine and art people a figleaf, maybe it is not incompetents throwing bits together to look like crass fanart (hello Entrati & Deimos), maybe it is people being told by bosses to fill in "any bunch of sh1t" in a hurry 'because noone cares anyway, so don't expect to be paid a lot of hours for it'. But curing a bad attitude like that is an entirely different problem than arguing visual issues with people who are both inclined and competent enough to improve the situation.

Knowing that a large majority ignore the crap or won't take it up with them (face it, the forum is a minority and even of the forum we are a minority so far), they "safely" ignore those who complain about the visual abuse, basically getting away with murder: It's not like we can get our money back, the terms will have seen to that, so it's a bit like 'what are they going to do about it, get a refund? lol'. But I certainly would not have spent anything here, let alone as much (~$120, spread on two accounts, me +other), if I had known about how bad it would turn out.
For that kind of money I could have bought a year worth of a sub-based MMO instead and not be "micro'ed" for 4 different kinds of inventory slots and 4 types of 'must have' upgrades (potato 1&2+exilus adapters).

I'm probably on /ignore at this point, but anyway. I am a former longtime EVE Online player, so if you happen to think my posts are direct, that will explain a lot of the why. If you know that place even a little, you know that we talk, and talk back, to any dev, anywhere, anytime entirely unimpressed with things that are bad.
It just occured to me to point that out, so you don't think you are being singled out unfairly, while exploring if any of my old games are worth giving a go again.

DE the new light system sucks makes everything look like trash. just keep pushing annoying effects to hide the fact your dinosaur engine can keep up, give us the option to disable effects like real games do. The white flashes and vignette effect is like a simulation of going blind, the new light prove makes no sense all frames are now cover with this white glow.

honestly after the lighting changes and the way you trash the deluxe skins I paid money for, I don´t feel like playing this game anymore let alone give you my money

*points at Maxim_M_Payne : He's right u kno?
The only thing I'd even add in the meantime are the new mastery rank symbols. Doesn't even look like a Lotus anymore. Why not just some makeover instead of a way forward re-invention? An angled UI is also something noone needs...

Been on a forced break since this "PSA" hit and let's be honest, even previously things just continued going south without them actually fixing their game even though I've seen tons of well written hints and ideas and critique.

Time for the weekly reminder that we want the option to disable this eye cancer back. We could turn it off before and I distinctly remember having HDR enabled with adaptive exposure disabled. I haven't yet seen any satisfactory reason why this can't be the case now.

Edit: I also want the old looks of my operator back. Someone posted an example of "before" & "after" and after ain't pretty.

Sucks wasting time going through all display setting everytime there is an update/patch. The game just keeps getting brighter and brighter.

I want to play not spend an ha couple going through settings then entering a mission to see if it's better just to abort and go back to settings over and over.

I was able to play more than 1 hour with these settings:
Brightness/Contrast 50, Effects Intensity 25, Volumetric Lighting off (was on pre-PSA), Glare, Film Grain & Color Correction off (like always), Ambient Occlusion & High Shader on, Bloom & Dynamic Lighting off (on pre-PSA), Particle Quality medium (usually high).
And still I found some light sources way too extreme. So I don't consider these settings a fix.

By no means does that look pretty and it makes me kinda sad that instead of having a toggle, I either not play at all or have the game look that depressing.
Thanks to this thread I at least know about the mission start flash-bang, so I was able to look away in time. Thanks for that, folks^^

Back when the Halloween Event was a thing, I at least wanted to acess the Vendor and see what is in store, so I played the Deimos Mission. The "Worm Fight" Scene would surely have looked amazing if it didn't burn my eyes out. I couldn't watch it. I really hope they fix this mess. And focus on fixes in general.

So having switched to a new higher resolution 34 inch, 10bit, VA, (6ms, 144hz) computer monitor. I've been running settings fully cranked to try and trigger some of these exagerated brightness/darkness transitions that was obvious on my older TN, 24 inch (144hz, 1ms). The transitions are'nt as extreme but its still there.

Solution for me is disabling Depth of Field and Bloom 50%. Or enabling everything (including motion blur) which does help slightly reduce the exagerated bright flashes.

Wondering if everyone here has fully played with their settings? Particularly turning OFF the glare setting.

Several issues people are presenting here are fixed by turning glare OFF.

I do not encounter any of these issues. Perhaps it is from having a 2070 graphics card?

https://postimg.cc/QBvwVqLM --- settings used and recommended with the first ones tweaked to your hardware. If FPS is too low, progressively turn down the slider on TAA Sharpen - makes a big difference
