The Gauntlet (Goblet of Fire)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was brainstorming this evening and envisioned the concept of Trial-style objectives, but expanded to a competitive, multiplayer environment.

A player would attempt to complete objectives before others do, or attempt to override them before their objective can be completed, with NPC spawns for dynamism.

I didn't detail this idea very much yet, as I prefer less-competitive environments and prefer to focus on immediate and near-future challenges in-game most of the time, but wanted to propose the idea if anyone felt similarly or opposed to it.

Feel free to expand or share your criticisms in the meantime.

Thank you for your time and attention. 🙂

Edit: this might be a rendition of Conclave, but I was considering an environment of player-activated hazards and less focus on active PvP. If the post is relocated to the Conclave section of the forums, that works, too.

It is really hard to know if this is a good idea or not. You need to actually give some information on what you actually want from it. I’d have to say no to it, because it depends entirely on what it actually is. Which isn’t explained.

An example would be Elimination Quota, Objective Defense, (with a countdown timer and cipher or other challenge to 'defuse') Capture the Flag, Detonator, (kill or a player is eliminated) King of the Hill, (mobile or stationary) or Escort. (protect an objective that follows you until it reaches its destination)

The venues are ultimately decided by the level-design team, but I was thinking condensed versions of the PoE, Orb Vallis, and a satellite-like, concave platform to start, each with rotating cover objects, hazards, and faction types. There are many possibilities.

This just sounds like your typical PvP. People don’t like conclave, your explanation makes this sound like it won’t be any better. Why will this be better than what we have? Why will it be worth doing?

This version of Conclave adds NPCs, (and potential minibosses) player-triggered and regular hazards, new objectives all based within the same session, and awards players for completing objectives more heavily than eliminations.

Rewards from this mode could be the same as the current modes of Conclave or feature some exclusive additions at the development team's discretion, but it would be a method of gaining Conclave standing for a variety of tasks similar to bounties in the PoE or the Orb Vallis open-worlds.

Keeping a large number of players engaged with the content because they prefer variety rather than enjoying new formats of similar missions would potentially influence them to interact with Conclave initially or revisit it. The 'Dog Days' game mode featured elements of Conclave with NPC opponents of various difficulties and unique rewards, so maybe this mode could have a few of each, with the latter being awarded for completing a milestone number of a specific objective or, similar to open-world bounties, bonus objectives to a certain degree to a milestone.

Is this enough of an improvement to get players interested in the mode? It would also need a reasonable retention rate. Perhaps it is how you have explained it, or a lack of comparisons to other games, but it sounds a little like Lunaro. In the sense that it would be fun for a while with friends, but quickly become boring.

  • I am imagining you are wanting a rough hybrid of D2’s Gambit (PvEvP) and For Honor. Adapted for Warframe.

For instance, my biggest issue with conclave is not the missions, it’s DE’s balancing of gear. Your suggestion has not addressed this at all. Are we going to be expecting to fight mini bosses with terribly weak gear? The bosses may end up unreasonable strong/durable ruining the mode.
