Malidorian
As we all know the game seems to be built on a grid in a cell by cell format. Something like (excuse the crudeness of the diagram) _ _ _ _ _ | _ | _ | _ | _ | _ | | _ | _ | _ | _ | _ | | _ | _ | _ | _ | _ | | _ | _ | _ | _ | _ | Now on this grid (the grid they use to randomly generate levels is obviously 3D with a z axis considering we also have elevators) the rooms are filled in through what seems to be random generation, although not all maps are created equal we could say. Some maps are larger, other smaller, some have several large rooms, other seem to be a string of smaller cells. But some of these sections on the grid must be left empty. So let's say you start at A and your objective is to get to B and the numbers in between are unimportant rooms, just your path. _ _ _ _ _ | A | 1 | 2 | _ | _ | | _ | _ | 3 | 4 | 5 | | _ | _ | _ | _ | 6 | | _ | _ | _ | B | 7 | Now if all maps are randomly generated as I assume they are, All unmarked rooms are cells that COULD be usable, although I understand why they aren't it adds diversity and I'm sure if we did fill the whole grid loading times could be much larger. And we do know that some of those cells will be filled with dead ends that just have lootable containers and that is fine I like that! But my suggestion is a simple one, what if instead of taking the door from 1 into 2 you could perhaps shoot an air vent above that box just sitting in the corner, and then climb into that and move past enemies into room 2 and drop unexpectedly on an enemy from the vent above his head. Or perhaps you catch a loose floor panel which you proceed to destroy to get into the floor and proceed underneath your opponents. Or maybe you see a broken wall panel which you melee to destroy and proceed through the ships inner walls. Or perhaps they don't even lead into room 2 perhaps they take you towards room 3 instead. Another idea is Warframe specific interactions. What I mean by this is environment pieces that only specific Warframes can interact with to open up alternative routes of travel and I have listed some examples below. Excalibur- A vent in a room can be opened but is too high for most warframes to jump to, Excalibur can shoot out the vent and then use his super jump to reach the lip and pull himself up. He can then proceed to the next room and jump down behind the enemy to do a well placed dash to destroy a wave from behind. Volt- A door or elevator is sparking the wires bringing electricty to it being cut. Volt uses his shock on the control panel or door to jolt it with enough electricity to open or activate. bringing the team to a new section of the ship or facility that perhaps houses an optional objective or just some loot (I will get to the optional objectives later.) Loki- Lasers like the corpus ones are being shot across a door way, as soon as someone passes through them the proceeding hallway shoots gouts of flame from the wall roasting any warframe foolish enough to run through them. Loki can use his invisibility though to run through and shoot the box giving power to the lasers allowing his team safe passage to perhaps another optional objective. Trinity- A hurt crewmember is laying on the floor. trinity wellsprings him and in gratitude for healing him he gets up and opens the door he is injured in front of. Ash- A rock ledge that is too far away and too high to jump to. Ash uses his teleport to get on top of the ledge and can now move behind the enemies in the room wrecking havok using his abilities. Nyx- Mind controls a cowering crew man to open a locked door. Ember- The engine coolant is leaking from an overhead pipe and has created a barrier of ice in front of a door. Ember uses her fireball to melt the ice away and provide passage. Frost- The ships water supply pipe has been damaged during your assault and has leaked a huge pool of water over a gap, frost uses his freeze ability to allow the team to walk over it, since warframes are far too heavy to swim. Mag- A huge sheet of metal has fallem in front of a door Mag uses her pull ability to remove it allowing passage. Rhino- A door is dented in and refuses to move, or a rock fall has blocked the passage. Rhino uses his charge to smash through the injured door or rock wall. All of theses are of course just ideas. Now Optional Objectives, imagine you have just done any of the aforementioend things from foudn an alternative path to using your warframe to open a new one. Imagien you reach the end of that path and you hear lotus chime in over your comms. "Amazing work tenno I had no idea they had this orokin artifact on board, I will make sure you are rewarded handsomely for it's acquisition." or "It seems you found one of the engineering labs, you are free to keep any blueprints you find here Tenno." or "It seems you have located one of our brothers Tenno, new objective make sure he gets to extraction ASAP, then continue with your previous objective." or "Looks liek you blundered into the captains quarters Tenno be ready for a fight I don't know what this enemy is capable of." There are several possibilities that could really add that extra flavor to Warframe! And not only that they very much assist the stealth aspect of the game, which I have develoepd as well in a post about stealth weapons in the warframe and weapons feed back section :). I hope you like the ideas and thanks for reading :) Edited February 21, 2013 by Malidorian
Saavedro
Some good ideas! I really like the frame specific idea for opening new paths.
Hanti88
All you can do is agree. Top ideas.
CapricaSix
I love the warframe-specific interactions with the environment idea, however there's one huge downside to it. What happens to the rest of the group when a player with crucial role disconnects or leaves the game in the middle of a mission?
Malidorian
I love the warframe-specific interactions with the environment idea, however there's one huge downside to it. What happens to the rest of the group when a player with crucial role disconnects or leaves the game in the middle of a mission? This is a very good point that's why these would lead specifically to Optional Objectives only. They would never block your path directly, as like you said if a crucial war frame left, it would damage the game for everyone.

Oh so you meant it more like a shortcut as well as an additional route, not just an obstacle. I should read more carefully before posting :P +1 in that case
