TennoCon: Looking Toward August 1.

Tenno,

TennoCon 2020 was meant to be today. July 11, 2020. This morning, our office doors would have been swung open in a mix of nerves and excitement to guests for our Fifth annual TennoCon. Look at the weather - umbrellas would have been a must if our TennoCon plans stayed as-is and brought us all together. Our humble Canadian city is a place which thousands of Tenno call home for 1 day of the year -- sometimes longer, as clanmates and friends gather to celebrate their love for Warframe and the community. There’d be laughter, tears of joy, and a measurable boost of energy and confidence for Warframe’s players and devs alike. We miss that.

Looking back, every TennoCon has been an evolution of the last. While this year's Digital Event on August 1 will look a little different, our goal remains the same: creating an experience that celebrates the Warframe community. We're proud to uphold this tradition again in 2020, and beyond grateful that we even get the opportunity to do anything on August 1.

What does TennoCon achieve for Warframe? That depends on who you ask. Is it a best memory for some? A day where proposals are made, Make-a-Wishes are fulfilled? Is it a day for Warframe fans and gamers in general to enjoy Digital Extremes’ eccentric chaos on a live stage? It’s an event we want to recount not only to remember what path we’ve walked, but where we’re going next on August 1.

TennoCon 2016: Theme: We have no idea what we’re doing, but we hope it works.

  • For this TennoCon, we didn’t even rent out the full Convention Center. Just 1 big room because we had no idea how this idea would play out.
  • We put on our first ever TennoCon TennoLive event - how simple things were then, it’s crazy to rewatch our first attempt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jbxpa-8ouKo
  • We put all our energy, love, and care into making something special and just hope that it will work, because we want Warframe’s community to be proud(*).

TennoCon 2017: Theme: Can we release an Open World?

  • This year, we know it’s time to secure the whole Convention Centre to increase attendee capacity. 2016 proved people will make the trip - let’s try and rent out the whole building to let more people come!
  • Can we keep our Open World ambitions a secret all day?
  • We put all our energy, love, and care into making something special and just hope that it will work, because we want Warframe’s community to be proud(*).

TennoCon 2018: Theme: We All Lift Together.

  • We hire more event help to make the physical day even more memorable. The team grows, and so does the scope of the event decor, production value, and experience.
  • We debut ‘We All Lift Together’, which became a pillar of our community since the moment it aired.
  • Our Open World recipe worked (after many hotfixes). Let’s do that again, but with a twist.
  • Railjack makes its conceptual debut.
  • We put all our energy, love, and care into making something special and just hope that it will work, because we want Warframe’s community to be proud(*).

TennoCon 2019: Theme: Take flight!

  • Logistically, this is our most ambitious streaming year for the event - we will Livestream as much as we can vs. ‘Just TennoLive’.
  • We’ve had 1 year since we introduced the idea of Railjack - where are we now?
  • Our Demo is the most ambitious it has ever been. Space Team and Fish Team unite.
  • We debut sheer ambition: The New War, a new Player Cinematic, The Duviri Paradox. We let everything out. There’s no un-debuting here, and we now must manage these concepts in the public sphere.
  • We count the countries attendees arrived from - this is our most global TennoCon yet!
  • We put all our energy, love, and care into making something special and just hope that it will work, because we want Warframe’s community to be proud(*).

Digital TennoCon August 1, 2020: Theme: From the Heart.

  • We have had 1 year of Updates, experience, and very important lessons since our last TennoCon.
  • We have to do something different - not just literally because there’s a pandemic, but also ambition wise because we are separated. We are not ready to deliver on literal expectations of The New War or The Duviri Paradox just yet with no studio, so we develop something that is not intended to be a Demo, but intended to be shipped closer to Tennocon (when it’s ready).
  • We put all our energy, love, and care into making something special and just hope that it will work, because we want Warframe’s community to be proud(*).

(*). Footnotes: This has always been the case, the dream, the goal. This will never not be true.

So, on August 1, we look forward to celebrating TennoCon 2020 with you digitally all over the world. You can catch the whole day for free at twitch.tv/warframe and join in the celebration in our Relays. We look forward to showing you something that we put all our energy, love, and care into making and just hope that it will work, because we want Warframe’s community to be proud.

I always look forward to TennoCon! The crowds of proud Tenno warriors gathering to celebrate our favorite game's past, present, and future, sharing wholesome stories of interactions with the [DE]vs. Though I haven't had the pleasure to join you in person, I'm always with you digitally and by heart <3.

It’s a shame that the New War won’t be available at this year’s TennoCon, but I’m still looking forward to what you’ll be showing us this year. That said, when you said you’d have something to show us that is more closer to release, I thought it was the New War, so I’m very curious to see what you guys have up your sleeves. 🤔

This year's theme really reflects what I've percieved this year: the dev team listening to the community. You gave us a new warframe with its own quest, Railjack revisited and hard mode. This really goes to show that you care about us the players. Thank you for all your hard work, especially now with the added work-from-home difficulty. I'm really excited to see what you have in store for us on August 1st 💜
