DE have kinda opened the door with Baro selling an Umbra item.

I'm against more full on umbra frames cause umbra excal was meant to replace excal prime for people who couldn't get excal prime. Pumping more umbra frames out feels unnecessary.

I would be open to umbra skins for frames purely for the aesthetic.

Because Umbra frames shouldn't just be reskins, rather it should have something altered about it like one of it's abilities as we have with Excal and obviously being able to move on it's own.

This.  I can see them using Prime/Standard Components, an Umbral BP and probably a special alt-strain of Helminth.

I would like to see it for the original 8 frames and a backstory behind each person used, like the Dax for U-Excal.

I'm in for 'Umbra' quest.

'Umbra', as in 'the original people turned warframe, thus have sentience when you're out of Transference'. Imagine we getting message from dying Lotus at the end of New War, saying that now the Sentients has been totally annihilated, we need to take care of the last sins of the Orokin, which is the original 'people' that are Warframe progenitors. They've been imprisoned in the void-shifted 12th planet of solar system, Nibiru, to provide Somatic Link to the newly created Warframes so we can use their abilities. As you deciphered the code to unlock the Void shift, the Worm Queen, which has been dormant all this time, finally revived after getting enough Kuva and uses them to transfer herself into Lotus' corpse, turning into Amalgam (orokin-sentient) like Ballas and start creating new sentients using the Grineer's cloning technology. You entered the new planet, each of it's node is a solo-only challenge with frame lock (you can only use same frame as the boss) raid-like challenge with modifiers that's pinpointed to weaken the specific warframe you're using (because Orokins don't want the Umbral Warframe to escape, duh). At the end of the raid, you need to bring down the Progenitor before the countdown gets to 0, otherwise they will take control of your warframe (like Zanuka) and you're forced to fight in Operator form to hit the Void energy tendril that controls your warframe in order to get back.

Defeating each of the Progenitor will unlock special cutscene like when you cleared any junction: The Progenitor will start to dissolve, revealing the original 'human' they used to be, and bestow two extra abilities: one for your Operator, one for the Warframe you are using. For the Operator, depending on which Warframe Progenitor you defeated, you get the passive ability of that Warframe (or if it doesn't fit the Operator, a copy of the Warframe's ability).

For example:

Wukong = Transference Twin (Void Dashing creates a mirror image that lasts for 2/4/6/10 seconds, that will attack enemies closest to it with Amp boosted to x% damage values. Consumes X extra energy per Void Dash).

Ivara = Void Movement (Can run faster and wall-run in Void Mode, energy consumed by Void mode increases by X/s)

Nova = Primed Dash (Void Dashing into enemies put them into Primed state. Enemies takes extra damage and explodes when their health reaches 0, dealing AoE damage equal to X% of their health)

Atlas = Stone Will (Upon Transference out, encase your Warframe in a Rumbler for X second(s). Rumbler will follow your movement, dealing x% of equipped melee damage per punch.)

Chroma = Dragon's Vengeance (Taking damage in Operator mode will grant you extra damage for your extra attack. The %damage of Operator's health determine the boost. 0-30% = 75% damage boost. 30-70% = 100% damage boost. Transference Static = 200% damage boost. Can't stack the boost by purposedly going out and get 'killed' again. At higher level you gain Adaptation effect to enemy damage.)

Ash = Phantom Slaughter (Void Dashing into enemies immediately return you to your Warframe and executes the enemy. Consumes 50%/45%/40%/35% of your Operator's Energy Gauge)

Gauss = Warp Drive (Void Dashing gets 0.5 second channeling time and consumes 20/25/30/35 more energy, but now it creates a tube-shaped damage zone spreading  that deals scaling Blast damage to enemies. Higher level gives multiplier to the damage)

Ember = Burning Heart (Void Blast now consumes 15 extra energy, but sets enemies aflame. For each enemy attacked with Void Blast, get 20/50/80/100 extra health when you Transference into your Warframe. Decays in 20 seconds if there's no enemies set aflame.)

Zephyr = Sonic Boom (Void Blast consumes 20 more energy, but radius improved. Doing Void Blast now triggers a huge explosion that ragdolls enemies; enemies ragdolled counts as projectiles that deals 20/35/55/70% of their health as damage to the enemy they hit during the ragdoll animation.)

Excalibur = Ethereal Blade (Amp now projects Ethereal Blade, enabling melee attacks using Void Blast button. Hold and release shoot button to shoot Ethereal Blade as Projectile. Can be used to do finisher in Operator form. Casting Ethereal Blade takes 100% of Operator's energy meter, but will not consume further energy to maintain the blade. Entering Void mode with Ethereal Blade active increases energy consumption by X%. Ethereal Blade damage and secondary ability mimics the Prism/Scaffold stats.)

And so on. These abilities acts like unbounded Focus skill, and needs focus pool point to be activated and upgraded, giving more reasons to play eidolons.

For the Warframe abilities, 1st of all you unlock a special mod slot that makes *any mod placed there are free of cost*. Secondly, you gain a new Koneksi-polarity Augment mod, called 'Progenitor of X', X being things like Fire (ember), Blade (Excalibur), Noise (Banshee), Illusion (Mirage), Fear (Nekros), Wrath (Chroma), Stone (Atlas), and so on. Equipping this mod into the Exilus slot will give your Warframe sentience like Umbra, raise selected base stats of your Warframe or improve their ability parameter (duration/power/efficiency/range), but most importantly *YOU CAN SET THIS MOD TO ACT LIKE ABILITY AUGMENT MOD* that raises overall of that selected ability.

Given how Warframe adds more frames to the game as it goes, this quest will progress with each of the new Warframe added, with easy reasons as 'The Node will only be unlocked if you have mastered X Warframe'

As far as Umbral frames go, I have been suspecting any future ones would have been suffering the same way Excalibur U. had been (During the transition), or at least that those other subjects would be ordinary citizens from the time period, etc.

If that were to be the case, the Sacrifice quest could've been the tip of an iceberg of an Orokin project branching away from how Prime frames came to be.

The umbral pedestal is also made out of a person.

sentient pedestal that walks around your orbiter carrying stuff would be pretty interesting

ps. not warframe sentient, normal definition of being living sentient
