releases are normally noon central. Big #*!%ing surprise were a damn hour and a half after that. Steve openly said on his stream that they're doing "last minute bug fixes." I.e. S#&$ that should have ficking been done before the day of. I csnt remember the last update launch that they didn't screw up so some varying degree.

That's not how software development works. How many months would you wait while getting the bug count down? Generally, as you approach a release deadline the threshold to block an update goes up. Most places I've seen categorize bugs by severity and priority, with the former informing the latter, but not being the only consideration.

Once a release date is set, there's not a ton you can do about it. You keep looking for bugs and you keep fixing them until all the various bits are ready to go. Should the devs just stop fixing bugs while the DB scripts are running? While the post-deployment smoke tests are running?

Also a lot of stuff doesn't shake out until you actually do the deployment. Stuff frequently works on a local developer's environment or in the test cluster, but not in production because there are subtle differences between the environments.

Software development is difficult and requires a lot of moving pieces. Fixing bugs right up until the last minute isn't a sign of failure. It's the responsible thing for them to do.

Let them take all day for all I care. I love DE, and I think they are cool but they have had a decent amount of late updates. They launch it successfully today without more than minor bugs, we can all be super excited and just enjoy it and celebrate and toast them for hitting their own deadline.

Fam, they're working from home and that in itself is a challenge. I work at home too and know the deal. Even the fact that they're able to do this so soon is amazing. Cut them some slack.

It's kind of fun watching him switch gears mid-sentence from geeking out about technical back-end stuff related to DirectX 12 to waxing poetic about how and how much he loves to eat potatoes.

But yeah he says it should be pretty close now, hopefully about half an hour.
