Protective Magnetize

hey! I don't post here much, but I wanted to for this. Mag recently got a new ability! Protective Magnetize is very cool in theory, but while it does offer very powerful defense, it is severely lacking in damage. I love the way that it adds a way for mag to protect herself, but it is... basically useless as an attack. i've used it with several builds in several levels of play, and in all but the lowest level missions it doesn't deal anything substantial to enemies. being that it costs the same as regular Magnetize, there is simply no reason to use it. the only reason to really use Protective Magnetize would be as a defensive tool, especially in solo, however... i'm not sure how it is supposed to work. when Protective Magnetize is used, Mag is completely unable to attack, and moves very slowly. therefore, if you use Protective Magnetize as a panic button for a strong enemy, what will happen is that you'll be left standing still for a while, it'll expire, almost no damage will be dealt, and you'll be left exactly where you were before.
i'm not going to pretend I know how to change Protective Magnetize to improve it, but I will say that as it is, the ability is... more than a bit disappointing. I love Mag and she's overwhelmingly my favorite, so I really want to use this ability to its fullest potential, but it just isn't good right now :s

I get you, but here's the fun little problem with improving this ability: DE didn't want it, not really. The new 'New Player Experience' cinematic they revealed at last year's Tennocon featured this power, and players asked why it wasn't an actual ability.

At that point, DE were kiiiiind of forced to add it into the game, in some capacity, or their shiny new cinematic would be lying to players and showing off something that the frame couldn't do.

With that, DE have done one of their many, many, many instances of 'least possible effort' additions. They've done it before with frames like Zephyr when they added, and now recently buffed, Air Burst. Sure it's a functioning ability, but there really is no argument that the ability could be buffed a fairly substantial amount without it becoming too powerful. Abilities like this go under the radar for months, years at a time without any thought from the Devs, because they function. Not well. Just function.

And the conclusion of this? We're not going to get any kind of fix, buff or functional update to this new Mag ability for some time. Years in the future, if ever.

its not really useless if you have the augment it still keeps the 50% disarm but to be fair in what situations would this be better than just using normal magnetize and murdering everything in 2 seconds

yeah the damage is a joke, I can let 10 lvl120 heavy gunner shoot at the sphere which means they would kill me probably 20 times or more. The stored damage does nothing to them, like 1% damage or so.

I can just use magentize instead and annihilate them with the same level of defense (they are completely disabled)

I can use Polarize (I use the augment) and it does more damage and CC

Hell I can even use crush and I get more out of it.

Guess they could have just replaced pull with it which is competely useless (and it's the ability the helminth can absorb, no thanks)

They could repair pull by removing the augment and making it standard funtionality. I guess I'd use it here and there cause I'm an old Jedi.

However I actually like that they atleast tried to change individual abilities. We can't just always wait years for a rework of a frame. Try some things... tweak them, just see if it works out

Mag isn't really played a lot. She could use some buff. The new ability is unfun, it's a defensive passive ability. It should at least wreck some havok.
