Unable to use Necramech's Turret Ability

So as of typing this, I have only so far tested this on the Necramech's you can find spawned around in the Cambion Drift

 

so what happens is, I get into a Necramech, energy bar full and all, I press 4

 

and nothing happens, just me being able to walk and look around and see my energy bar drain, not able to fire my gun or use other abilities

Pressing 4 in this state just gives me the "going out of turret mode" animation and everything is just fine and I can use my gun/abilities besides 4 again.
