Survivability Tips

(PSN)Wil_Shatner_face

Question

So up to this point I have played Warframe without Arcanes because I started right after Scarlet Spear and I just don’t enjoy Eidolons. That is going to end for me soon, as I basically can only complete Steel Path missions with frames that have access to healing or insane DR in their kits. I’d like to open my options up and finally diving into arcanes seems to be my best bet.

So my question is, what arcanes do I need to be going after to increase my survivability? I know about Grace and Guardian, are there any others that should be on my radar? Advice much appreciated.

Grace and Guardian are a good start, but these together tend to be most useful on frames with innate high HP and modded for HP & Armor. On a sqyishy frame with high energy pool, I suggest Energize and Guardian while using mods Adaptation and Quick Thinking.

Regardless of the arcanes you have equipped, however, surviving steel path will depend more on already having a good foundation of mods and builds, mobility skill, good offense, choice of frame for the mission type and how you use your abilities, just to pinpoint a few things.

Fair, I do feel like my builds are strong, but with the amount of damage enemies deal on the Steel Path, if I take a frame like Vauban or just any frame with no healing, one or two hits is a big knock to that health pool and currently I have no way to get that health back. Maybe it is something to do with my gameplay but I stay pretty mobile and still can’t help but take a few hits.

I want to just chime in and say you do not need Arcanes to complete the Steel Path.  For some particularly squishy Warframes, it's possible that Arcane Guardian might drastically improve their ability to survive quick bursts of DPS, but generally speaking I don't think that's necessary.

If you're in Steel Path I assume you are well-acquainted with "spoiler mode", and if that's the case I highly recommend the solution to all your healing problems for the rest of your Warframe days: Magus Repair.  From the wiki:

  • Magus Repair heals all Warframes in range, this includes your own and your teammates'.
  • Magus Repair heals 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 22 / 25% of maximum health per pulse.
    • Pulses have a 1-second cooldown.
    • Entering Void Mode triggers a pulse, unless in cooldown. With max-rank Magus Repair, it would take 3 seconds to reach 100% HP from minimum health due to the initial pulse upon entering Void Mode.

I hope this helps you overcome the health hurdle!  Good luck!

Another option for you might be some of the operator arcanes (which you can buy from Little Duck in Fortuna).  For example, Magus Repair will heal any warframe within x meters by a % of health.  At max rank, I can fully heal my warframe in about 3 seconds by just jumping into operator mode, then holding void mode for a couple seconds.

Buying these and ranking them up means farming a lot of toroids, but it has been a good investment of my time as far as I'm concerned (farming exploiter when you have a resource booster makes this go pretty quickly).

Thanks for the tip! I think my biggest problem may be not utilizing spoiler mode to begin with. When I first unlocked it I just hated the gameplay, but I know what a huge upgrade they are so it’s probably time to bite the bullet and grind it out.

I note that several players have already provided suggestions.

Arcanes are not essential to complete steel path. I did almost all of steel path solo using Rhino Prime, Frost Prime, Loki Prime, Ignis Wraith, Akstiletto Prime and Paracesis. Did I fail a few missions and have to do the missions again? Yes. Did I find Defense missions in particular challenging? Yes. Have I completed steel path ? Yes.

Have fun and may RNG be forever in your favor.

There are really only 3 things I use my spoiler mode for:

  1. Magus Repair for healing
  2. Zenurik's thing for Energy
  3. Reviving squad members and pets while invincible

You don't really need to try to make spoiler mode a major part of your gameplay; the devs have even said that the intent is for spoiler mode to provide utility.  Switch to it when you need one of the things it can provide, then get out as soon as you can so you can go back to having fun ^^

Yeah, after reading the advice in this thread I have switched my goal to finally upgrading my operator.
