Son is stealing my Conservation Captures

I've caught tons and tons of Vulpaphylia trying to get a Crescent. I rush back immediately so no "oops lost connection booting to orbiter" can take it. I rush over to Son, I open up the Vulpa listing and.... <o> is staring at me instead of 1

This is NOT the first time it has happened.

I have caught over 50 Vulpaphilia but only have, I just noticed, 22 in my inventory and 2 full Companions.

The Crescent was a Perfect capture but I lost out on it because of this bug I REPORTED on the megathread days ago and you have not fixed.

This is most likely not a bug. The cat/dog has to be bitten by the infestation for you to be able to 'craft' it. Just let the infestation bite the animal and it will start glowing, that's how you know it is weakened and you will be able to use it in the recovery system.

I'm sorry, but....what?...

Either you are thinking about the Vampire Kavats or you are really confusing how to get a new Infested pet...

Once the player's Kavat is attacked by the wild Vasca, it will become infected, indicated by a red overlay.

Like MOAs, Vulpaphyla are obtained through a modular system, with players able to select from various combinations of three different components to create a Vulpaphyla to their liking. Since these are organic companions, they are not built, but rather revivified through the use of mutagens and antigens.

So.. what? Do I have to let infested damage the pet to capture it or not?

No, he is correct, if you just cruise around and capture idle Vulpaphyla or Predasite on the map it will just give you a conservation tag for it, but it will NOT be available for companion crafting. You have to let the wild animal get attacked by infested enemies and tranq it when it starts glowing. Here is how DE described the process in the Heart of Deimos patch notes:

"First you must tranq and capture a Vulpaphyla or Presadite in a wounded state (creatures affected will have a certain glow to them after they have been wounded by the Infested). You must encounter these creatures while they are infected and tranq it before it loses its battle with the Infested. The captured Vulpaphyla or Presadite is then transported to the Necralisk."

Only the ones you tranq that have been injured by infested enemies will be available for "revivification".

Easy guide to obtaining "weakened" cats and dogs.

1. Spot them.

2. Tranq them, they can still take damage in this state.

3. Switch Teleport the animal across the moon until you get close to Infested.

4. Turn invisible and place a Decoy next to your soon to be best friend.

5. Stay close by and call the conservation drone when their name change to Weakened Cat/Dog.

If you want to use it as a Companion then yes. a Normal capture will not work.

only "Weakened" animals can be used as companions; which means they need to be injured by infested.

Think of the Companions as Rescues. If you wander around you occasionally see random encounters of Vulpaphyla/Pedasites fighting against infested and getting downed (weakened), those are the ones you're intended to rescue and use as companions.

Note there's a minor exploit, where you instead do a Conservation tranc capture, but lure infested to the animal so it gets attacked and weakened. Thus failing the conservation, but easily getting a weakened animal encounter... but that's not really an intended mechanic.

Simpe really; tranq it and lure some infested in so it punches it while it's still on the floor, and then collect it.

Yea. Had that idea and spent the last 15m making 2 runs checking that.

Lure, Tranq, then lure infested. Go stealth for maximum effectiveness.

If only I had known this from the start. I'd have 3, yes 3, Crescent Vulpas. 3 in a single map. Was so excited. *sigh*

I am aware that you need to let the animal be DAMAGED by the Infested, but to be "Infected" is not the same as Infested damaging it so it loses HP. There is no "Infection" mechanic, the only mechanic of such is the Vampire Kavats that I have BOLDLY pointed out for him/she to read.

So, no, he isn't right, or alteast he is horribly confused on how it works and what the Infested means and how they work, cuz what he was talking about was utter nonsense and incorrect, there is no infection or bite to do with this, only the Vampire Kavats, they have been out long enough.

And as you said, fly around or even wait around for the Infested to attack the animal, your "Pet" has nothing to do with it, neither does any sort of Infection need to take place first.
