(PSN)SouthSideSwanga Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 So you all probably know that the Tennocon twitch drops got botched and everyone who logged in to the game on tennocon day automatically got all the drops. I looked for a while and the earliest mention of that fix is a few days after tennocon and the opportunity to get the drops had already passed. For most people this didn't cause a problem, but a few people who did what they were supposed to do were left with nothing and no way to get anything. I submitted a support ticket and basically got told I didn't get the drops was because my account wasn't linked properly (except that I explained that I only received the Athodai and didn't get hydroid so I don't think it's an issue of my account being linked improperly). What I'm getting at is this fix was a terrible idea as it rewarded people who did literally nothing to be rewarded and punished people who did everything they were supposed to do. It's also a bad idea because people who could have gotten the stuff they were supposed to get had no chance of getting it the alternative way because there was no announcement until after it was too late (I could be wrong about that though). Even if there was an announcement, the hydroid drop happened relatively late in the day and people wouldn't actually have a day to claim it and instead they'd only have a few hours (imo they should have extended the deadline for logging in to 24 hours after the time they made the announcement so people who had no way of logging in could do so to claim their prize). It's kind of a slap in the face to know I did everything correctly and won't get what I was supposed to get when people who didn't got the prize I was supposed to get. It's a much bigger slap when the people I watched tennocon with all got 2 hydroids simply because the drops worked for them. It's a much, much bigger slap for some people who took time off their work to watch and I've seen a few people who did that and got no drops from twitch and couldn't get them for logging in because they were at work. Obviously this is in the past and it won't get fixed for anyone who still hasn't gotten anything, but I have one suggestion for next year: just give the drops to everyone no matter what. I think most people would agree it's better to reward everyone as a quick and easy fix. Yeah it's dumb that everyone gets stuff they didn't earn, even accounts that logged in for 2 minutes back in 2014 and never logged in again would get drops, but at least no one would feel like they got screwed over and forgotten. I mainly wrote this to rant, but I'm serious about that suggestion because it feels like this happens every year where a huge number of people watch tennocon and it causes an issue with drops and I have no idea why there hasn't been a more efficient solution implemented yet or why no one tries to even foresee that there will be a problem and implement a preemptive solution (such as making an announcement telling people to log in on tennocon day to ensure they get drops before tennocon just in case instead of making the announcement over half a week past the deadline). I get that my solution would entirely defeat the point of them trying to get people to watch the stream, but broken twitch drops and impossible fixes for broken drops also make people not want to watch the stream.
Swagernator22663 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Imagine gatekeeping people from getting free stuff. That's toxic mate.

(PSN)Hikuro-93 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 A few key things: 52 minutes ago, (PS4)SouthSideSwanga said: except that I explained that I only received the Athodai and didn't get hydroid If you got at least one drop it's likely that you were logged on at any given time that day - in which case you should likely check your inventories for each reward - since DE ended up running a script to give everyone who logged in on Tennocon day all rewards, regardless of watching all streams or not. I, for example, wasn't supposed to receive the Necramech statue, but I did thanks to this. Also, the rewards didn't give me a warning, they were just there after the script. I also didn't get them during the first script, only the final one. 52 minutes ago, (PS4)SouthSideSwanga said: What I'm getting at is this fix was a terrible idea as it rewarded people who did literally nothing to be rewarded and punished people who did everything they were supposed to do. If DE ran a script to reward all people who logged on that may mean some who weren't supposed to get rewards did indeed get them, but for that to happen it should also mean everyone who did deserve said rewards also got theirs, and whatever rewards they weren't entitled to. It went from a fair "some win, some don't" situation to an "all win" situation - which is still fair since it's free stuff in the end. 52 minutes ago, (PS4)SouthSideSwanga said: Even if there was an announcement, the hydroid drop happened relatively late in the day and people wouldn't actually have a day to claim it and instead they'd only have a few hours (imo they should have extended the deadline for logging in to 24 hours after the time they made the announcement so people who had no way of logging in could do so to claim their prize). There's no claiming rewards - during the stream or after, in-game or not. You watched for the alloted time while the stream was live and you were supposed to automatically get the reward in your mail box. It's that simple, despite connection errors, scripts and system overloads. 52 minutes ago, (PS4)SouthSideSwanga said: It's a much bigger slap when the people I watched tennocon with all got 2 hydroids simply because the drops worked for them. Yes, it is. They got 1 drop for watching, another because they logged in on that day. I think some even got more due to script errors delivering to the wrong people, but don't quote me on that since I'm not sure. 52 minutes ago, (PS4)SouthSideSwanga said: It's a much, much bigger slap for some people who took time off their work to watch and I've seen a few people who did that and got no drops from twitch and couldn't get them for logging in because they were at work. Quite fair. I had a day off on Tennocon day, but even if I didn't it's really just a matter of seconds to log in and log out - save for internet faillures. The situation is not ideal at all, but always remember - log in when there's important stuff. This is not the first time this whole "script for all" thing happened. So I logged in on Tennocon day to briefly check out the diorama relay, then logged off to focus on Tennolive. 52 minutes ago, (PS4)SouthSideSwanga said: Obviously this is in the past and it won't get fixed for anyone who still hasn't gotten anything, but I have one suggestion for next year: just give the drops to everyone no matter what. I would not object this. If the rewards were supposed to go only to those who met their requirements, and DE instead ended up rewarding everyone who logged on that day - it begs the question: "Why a half measure? Why not just everyone like during Dex events when people have lots of time to log in and claim rewards?". 52 minutes ago, (PS4)SouthSideSwanga said: I get that my solution would entirely defeat the point of them trying to get people to watch the stream, but broken twitch drops and impossible fixes for broken drops also make people not want to watch the stream. This is correct. It would defeat the point of the system. But the system failling to meet its results also defeats the point of that same system. In which case your proposed solution is still better than nothing.
(XBOX)Rez090 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Why do people still complain about Twitch drops like DE can do something about it? Why are you not complaining to, ya know, Twitch itself? It's their system, complain about it to them so they can work on said system so stuff like this doesn't happen anymore.

I agree with everything you said except the part about it being easy to log in because some people travel for work and don’t have access to warframe, but do have WiFi and can watch the stream. I’ve been regularly checking my inventory and nothing except that Athodai has shown up yet sadly.

I complain to DE because DE can do something about it and they’re more likely to take suggestions than twitch is. The drops everyone got for logging in on tennocon were from DE and not twitch. My complaint is that what DE did wasn’t an adequate solution and they should have given the drops to everyone instead of a random group. Also what would I complain to twitch about? Tell them their drops aren’t working when over 100k people watch at once? Considering this happens almost every year, it’s a safe bet they already know and complaining to them probably won’t do much, but I can give it a try.
