Optional and Customizable Game-Play Addons for Challenge

You know that game called Skyrim that is super popular because of the things they call mods? Well, what if Warframe had something similar?

Not addons that you download and put into your game, but ones that are already added to the game that players can toggle on and off whenever they so choose. Ones that are customizable so that the players can choose how much it effects their game-play.

Granted nothing huge and nothing that would be considered a buff. More like stylized debuffs that would bring something interesting to a player's game-play. Something perhaps like stamina.

Granted stamina in Warframe is a taboo it seems, so adding it in any form seems like it would create an uproar, but it's the best example I can think of at the moment so I'll be using it as my example.

Anyway you could make something like stamina an optional feature so that if players wanted to they could toggle it on and even edit the values to make it so that it could be anywhere between either a very light addition to the difficulty of the game, or a seriously debilitating issue for that player (and that player alone). The thing is, it should be up to the player how badly it would effect them.

I imagine you could go nuts with how customizable it would be. Like you could add a toggleable option under the stamina's toggleable option that would cause the player's frame to have reduced melee attack speed (or something else) the lower their stamina gets, or having an option that makes the player get momentarily stunned, knocked down, or possibly even ragdolled for trying to do something with no stamina.

Granted the options that could be created don't have to do anything with stamina (it's just the only thing I could think of while writing this that wouldn't cause any real trouble when playing with other players that may not be using the options).

I realize there are things like the vault keys that debuff the player for holding them, but they don't really bring anything that's interesting to the game so nobody (or at least almost nobody) is going to put them on just for the fun of it (because they're not really interesting enough to be fun).

But adding options like that, could possibly make going through the star chart again a totally new experience that could actually feel like a totally new experience.

The biggest issue I can think of is finding things that'd could be fun or interesting, that will only effect the one player that chooses to debilitate themselves while not really effecting any other players they happen to be playing with.

Anyway that's the crazy idea that I think could be rather cool to get to play with.

(but seriously some people would want stamina, not just for realism, but because it can help them to slow down, think, and appreciate things easier! You just do not want to make it mandatory in a game like Warframe unless you can somehow make it perfectly natural to the game [which would be a godlike feat])

It is kind of interesting that DE hasn't dipped their toes in the Handicap game, in a game where people are literally too powerful for anything to ever pose a challenge.

Only time I've ever seen something of the sort is for unlocking Rivens, which is less a gameplay choice and more just another chore except this time you're blindfolded or whatever.
I guess there's also Sorties but... they hardly qualify.

Sounds more like the Shrines from Bastion, or whatever the handicaps were called in Transistor, that modified and made the game harder in exchange for some interesting side effects and potential rewards.
Where the handicaps could make enemies twice as fast, or they regenerated health, or spawned a duplicate of themselves, necessitating different strategies for the same enemies.
Which sounds pretty awesome.  And would probably be a mechanic that I wouldn't be disappointed in DE for appropriating from another game, unlike so many of their other features.

I think it'd be fun if you could implement it properly.  Some Kuva-Void-Rift bollocks that makes your Warframe or the mission wig out, making the rules change and forcing you to adapt on the fly.
It's probably not going to be implemented properly.

I guess they've tried, but yeah I can imagine how hard it is to find a handicap that'd actually make a significant difference. I suppose it would be easier if they targeted the player with stuff than the actual warframes though. Like if they added more blinding effects like in the fight against Alad V or something (granted that flash bang should be toned down some. It legit hurts the eyes).

😝 DE does seem to be the type that learns more by testing things instead of thinking them through. Not saying they don't try to think things through (they probably do), but it seems like the lesser focus when they create something and then they test things on us.

The problem really seems to be that after testing things on us they only ever seem to get things to where they're functional and then move on, rather than getting things to where they are either optimal or to where they are fully engaging.
