Avichaea has gone extinct....

I have almost given up on unlocking the helminth now. I have spent hours hunting Avichaea the real way, with lures and all. Hours with just my tranq gun. As of now, I dont even know what Im hunting, since I havnt had a visual on the mob, even when using the tranq scope. It really does feel terrible.

While using lures, I have had several experiences, where after Ive done the call, the "hunt" seems to freeze. Nothing happens, no dialog of me failing (I have had those too) no mob appearing. The next not despawning etc.

I have a really hard time understanding the point of this, as of now I have around 50 deimos dogs, and I have not yet even SEEN and avichaea, or heard it, except answering my lure call. I just love fooling around in the Drift for hours trying to get my helminth and not even encountering my objective using the 2 methods there is in the game.

The hunt doesn't freeze, you're just not spotting the Avichaea.

As you can see from the screenshot below, they're kinda hard to see and are often found at rather high altitudes so like Son suggests.. you should look up.

Now, the tranq rifle could definitely use a little "rework" or "tweaking" to make the targets easier to spot instead of making them look like irrelevant particle effects in the air or blend into the ground (the case for the Plains), I'll give you that but.. that's a whole different topic.

Also keep in mind that while looking through your tranq rifle scope, if you can hear bleeping sounds, it means that there is an animal that you can capture nearby.

In addition to that keep in mind that, upon pulling out your tranq rifle, if you manually select the calling lure by pressing '2', the game will highlight on the map (hold 'm' for the larger scale map, and RMB to place a waypoint) the hunting spots for that specific animal.

A bit off topic but what range does the animal have to be from you for the tranq rifle to beep?

That's a good question, there's no mention of a range in the wiki page of the tranq rifle but after doing some tests in the plains the range seems to be around 150-170mt from the target.

It is worth mentioning that after 170mt of distance from the target the game seems to prefer de-spawning the capture target (in the case of non-lure hunts) instead of stopping the bleeping so... take these distances with a pinch of salt

Not the first time that DE is fooling us into spending plats. Insane amount of time for just farming one of those and that is deliberately "bugged". Some weeks ago people were able to spot them without lure as wildlife, that was "debugged" in short time to prevent and easy way for getting the tag. I see all kind of other animals for tagging but not that bird, what a funny thing that is. After the first success at least i know what to look for, not that it has helped me in any way.

Thats so pathetic in its intention.

First, make these changes in your settings: Turn off volumetric lighting and DISABLE GPU particles. Conservation targets should be MUCH easier to see. There will be no fog or F$^%ing air lint, except in Vome/Fass residue areas.

Next, hop in archwing and fly to Deimos Terminus in the far northwest of the map. That big, dark colored plant thing that forms a canopy over the entire northwest part is where they'll spawn.

Finally, you're gonna game the spawn system. From that canopy-thing, fly southeast over the (possible) pillar spot to the edge of the map. That is point A. Follow the branches/roots that are suspended in mid air to the south until you are past the big hill separating Terminus from mainland. This is your spawn reset point, B.

Fly back and forth between A and B. Fly low with the tranq gun out. If nothing spawns in the Terminus canopy, inch further north. If you get to the pillar spot, you've gone too far, so fly back to the reset spot, B. Non-avichaea spawned? Fly south to B, aim the tranq until targets appear to the south or east, then fly back north to find new conservation targets have spawned. DE tries to guess the direction you're traveling and usually spawns stuff in that direction when you stop, so when flying north, look at the canopy.

I've found avichaea spawn ~30% of the time. No velocipods spawn here, so that's 1 fewer possible targets. Other than that, I see ~40% vulpaphyla, ~20% cryptillex, and ~10% predasite. This spot also works for trying to get rare vulpaphyla, since you can ignore common ones and reset the spawns easily (though you'll want to focus on the southern side of this flight path). If you push further east, you'll get more predasites. Sometimes you'll find things spawned on the ledge you're flying right next to, especially if you flew a little too far north or south.

Other tips:

  • Remember that you can cap from the archwing, just try not to get staggered from hitting the ground/obstacles.
  • Ivara's sleep arrow has an aoe, so you can sleep any targets glitched inside the map. Since there's a little range on the capture interaction, you can usually still cap these targets (just be aware that the sleep arrow doesn't last very long by default).
  • I find that getting in close is the easiest way to get avichaea mid air. Once you hit one the other 1-2 will get spooked and you'll have to pursue anyways. Flying in close will cause the same reaction, but you'll get a couple seconds of lead time. I usually see 2 spawn, fly at them and fire all 3 tranq shots at 1, reload finishes right as I'm close to the second, and I have a good shot at the second. If they're deep under the canopy, I just leap out of archwing and go prowl mid air, then sleep arrow them when I'm close.
  • Predasites can be tranqed with a single shot if you hit them in the head.
  • Animals that are "weakened" can not be killed. Attacking them to zero health immobilizes them, prevents their escape, and can be capped. Be aware that enemies will usually attack only 1 animal in a group, and you can kill an un-weakened animal. Since there's no benefit to getting a good capture, I find it easier to let targets get weakened, nuke everything in the area with a Nukor or Ignis, then cap the target.
  • Animals spawned inside stuff can still be tranqed, usually. Look for places where the different models intersect and try to move along the seam. The crosshair is drawn closer to the player's view than the tip of the tranq rifle, and in the right spot, the tip of the rifle will be inside the geometry, even though it looks like you're aiming at the side of a rock. Obviously, do this while invisible to prevent fleeing.
