(PSN)sister-hawk
This system is incredibly outdated and needs to be brought up to the standards of modern Warframe. Trying to get a Kubrow that has the breed and appearance you want can be an unbelievably time consuming and difficult process. I won't complain about the resource drain too much, as the only real problem is the credits and I've got several million to throw around by this point. But the cost of crafting incubator power cores should be noted. There's also the awful amount of time it takes. Even with the upgraded incubator, it still takes a whole 24 hours just to see what you've got. And an hour and a half just for one imprint? Come on, it's like the game is nickle-and-diming me for time. You can speed this process up with platinum of course, but don't you remember when there was a for-pay fur pattern randomizer and it got removed quickly because it was basically a slot machine? How is paying 15 plat to skip incubation and roll the dice more quickly any better? It's not really, I'm afraid. And the worst part of it all: the fact that every single aspect of your pet is completely down to RNG. The breed being random is the worst part, because that actually does affect how the animal performs in gameplay. If you want a specific breed, you've got a 20% chance of getting it from a random incubation. If you want a specific body type, that's a 33% chance. If you want a specific fur pattern, that's only just over a 16% chance. If you want a specific breed with a specific body type and a specific color pattern? You're looking at a absolutely pathetic 1.1% chance at getting that combination. You could theoretically breed hundreds of Kubrows and never get what you want. In a game that prides itself so heavily on the freedom of cosmetic customization, that is unacceptable. Sure, imprints can help you narrow that down a bit. But let's say you get one Kubrow that has the breed you want but nothing else. Then you get one that has the body type you want. You have a whopping 2 chances for a cross-breed to result in the combination you want. And if both attempts fail? You're right back to square one. All the time and resources and luck you spent getting those two animals and their imprints have now gone down the drain and you've got to start the process all over again from scratch. This can repeat several times before finally resulting in a success. And even when you get the right combo, if the animal isn't the size you want, or if it's an athletic Kubrow and either a male or female and you don't want that (because they have different body shapes), you still have to clone the animal again and again until that combo randomly lands in your favor. That is also unacceptable. And what really makes all of this even more ridiculous and really pushes the problem front and center is the fact that, with Deimos, you've already set the precedent for modular pets. Not just machines like Moas, but actual living organic beings that you can just stick together piece by piece to get exactly what you want. The fact that Kubrow and Kavat (although the situation is not quite as terrible with Kavats) breeding is still so cumbersome and imprecise is frankly a stain on Warframe. Something absolutely needs to be done to rectify this situation. Here are some potential solutions. Quick and easy: Massively reduce the amount of time it takes to incubate and imprint a pet. Either just change it outright, or make us build some additional upgrade to our incubator. Incubation should be 4 to 6 hours, imprints should be 10 minutes. Dirty but viable: Significantly increase the number of imprints we can take of our pets. If it can't technically be "infinite" due to database reasons, increase the cap to 20. Preferably this should also come with a major reduction to imprinting time. While this solution would help, it would only be a bandaid and honestly not enough. The one we actually need: Allow us to create imprints for Kubrows and Kavats with Master Teasonai an Cetus. He's already got baby Kubrows in a pin right next to him anyway. The system would be just like that of the Son's on Deimos. There would be blueprints for some concoction or ingredient that correspond to each attribute of the animal. For Kubrows: breed, body type, fur pattern, and height. For Kavats: breed, head, and tail. Colors and gender of both could still be random (although the male and female variants of the athletic Kubrow should be separated into two different body types regardless of gender). We bring him the corresponding ingredients that we've crafted through the blueprints we bought from him, and he gives us two imprints of the exact animal we want. We then take those imprints to our incubator, begin a combined incubation, and we get the animal we want with the attributes we want. This will obviously be the solution that requires the most work, with a new menu and blueprints and lines for Teasonai, and a slight rework to the breeding process to move some attributes onto and off of the imprints. But this really is the right solution in my opinion. Please take the time to consider just how badly pet breeding needs to be updated.
