Before The Cryogenics:chapter 2 (Twitter Tenno)

Emilia was sleeping, her head on the table of her workbench. She was having dreams of a Earth that was free from Disease, Corruption and War. Looking at her was Samantha who found her way to Emilia's workspace. Samantha just sat next to her during the past few hours. There was almost what it seemed Tranquillity at night, no one was suffering. Everyone was sound asleep.

 

This Tranquillity was broken when a co-worker of Emilia rushed to her table, "Emilia wake up! *he pushed her shoulder* Wake up! We have a code blue!(1)"  Emilia startled awake from her sleep immediately rushing to follow her co-worker. Accidentally pushing Samantha off her chair causing her to collide with Emilia's leftover coffee.

"Sorry!" That was the only word Emilia could gave Samantha, She was more focused on the patient that needed resuscitation. She rushed to the ward, hoping to arrive there before anything had happened. When she finally reached at the door, a nurse walked by her with a face filled with sadness. She saw a few more nurses walked by shaking their head. She looked over to the bed of the patient, he was laying there not breathing and what seemed like he was sleeping with his eyes open. Emilia walked slowly towards the bed. She was disappointed and angry at herself that she couldn't do anything to prevent the death of this person. Tears started to fill her eyes as she stood next to the body. "I'm sorry..." *she closed the eyes of the decease"  The patients and the visitors all looked at Emilia and the deceased. 

 

Be it fear or something else, everyone that was in that ward was thinking about their loved ones and what if that had happened to them. Everyone was fearful, there was no cure and they knew it wouldn't come anytime soon. Everyone just prayed for the best. Emilia walked out of the ward giving the body a quick glance before walking back to her workspace.

 

On her way to back to her workspace, she saw a armed uniformed men walking by the reception. She wondered what was the military doing here and for what purpose. Before she even step a foot forward to go talk to the reception her hand was held by someone. She looked behind to find Samantha, holding out a cup of coffee. "... You... dropped your other one... I bought you another one....Please Take it.." The moment Emilia took it, Samantha took off. "W-Wait!" *she managed to grab Samantha's hand* 

"Wha...What!" said Samantha while blushing. Emilia looked at her, "You're that girl right..? Earlier yesterday I asked you to help.. Why did you buy me this..? I am the one supposed to be owing you something not the other way round...." Samantha kept quiet. Emilia looked at the time. She still had thirty minutes before her shift started. "Want to go get breakfast?....... Ga-ha Yes or no you're coming with me!* Emilia pulled her along towards the cafeteria.

When they were at the cafeteria, it seem empty. No one but a few doctors was having their breakfast. Emilia gestured Samantha to sit on one of the seats while she went to get something to eat. "Anything you want Samantha...? It's on me."  Samantha kept quiet, not replying to Emilia. Emilia simply took that as a answer and went to buy her food. Samantha looked at Emilia as her mother. Well that was what Emilia reminded her of. Her parents passed on four years ago, before the outbreak happened. She was happy that they die of age instead of a death caused by sickness.

Emilia arrived back, "You seriously aren't the talker... huh?" she said putting her plate of pancakes on the table. She went to dine on the food while Samantha was looking at her like a hungry puppy. Her Stomach grumbled. "See..? You're hungry... Here... Open up.." She guide a fork with a slice of her food on the other end towards Samantha's mouth. Samantha rejected at first it but eventually gave in as she was really hungry.

 

"Tha-Thank you........" she said while chewing on the slice. It seemed cute towards Emilia that Samantha was acting like she was someone close to her or even, her.. lover. During that moment Emilia noticed something behind Samantha. Someone was running towards here, with incredible speed. Before she even got a proper glimpse of the person, it went behind a doctor that was having his breakfast and pinned him to the ground. It's hand turned into an sharp object and punctured his neck. 

 

 

Emilia watched in horror, as the life of that doctor was being sucked by this, person? monster?.. A few doctors started to help him by pulling the person away, the moment they touched it, their skin slowly turning into a thick layer of orange skin. The doctor that was on the ground, who Emilia thought to be dead by now due to his injuries stood up. It just stood there. Looking at the other doctors slowly turning into something, something that wasn't human. It's like time had stopped. Emilia was staring caught the attention of Samantha who noticed the commotion. They slowly turned towards the two ladies and started running towards them. Emilia pulled Samantha's hand and ran towards the reception.

 

As they got closer to the Hospital's reception, the sound of gunshot going off around the complex of the hospital could be heard. 

"Evacuate the one's that aren't infected towards the roof. We have shuttles ready. Go Now." one of the uniformed man instructing a nurse.

 

It's like the Military knew this was going to happen, they already prepared their men. Emilia looked behind to see those things still behind them, one of them was really close to Emilia. It jumped towards Emilia trying to pin her down. She simply closed her eyes. Suddenly, everything went silent. She could only hear a constant ringing in her ears.She opened her eyes to see a those things laying on the ground lifeless. Beside her was a group of armed men, what seemed like they just opened fired. One of them was grabbing her and shouting something. Little that she knew it, she was temporarily deaf because one of those man shot to close to her ears. 

It took awhile but she finally regained her hearing, the man still shouting to her. "Are you hurt!!?" Emilia shook her head to say no. "Alright then get a move on! Head to the roof and we'll evac you out of here move!" The two headed to the roof, with no delay. Upon reaching the roof, they were met with a line of patients and doctors being scanned one by one to see if they were infected or not. She overheard one of those men shouting "Clear. Next. .... You're Infected I.. Can't let you in" pushing the person away from the group. Emilia looked at her arm, thinking if she was already infected. It seemed like hours, but when their turn arrived Samantha was scanned first. "Clear... Next one." Those words came as a relief towards Emilia ears. She slowly walked towards the guy scanning people. He was preparing another test kit, "Come on lady, we don't have all day let's go." He took her arm and took a sample of blood. "...Here.. we go..." Emilia could see her blood slowly turning the colour pink. "You're infected, sorry. You aren't getting on. Go to quarantine over there! NEXT!" 

 

Samantha heard what the guy said and walked back towards Emilia, "Emilia! Aren't you coming?". She shooked her head before walking away. Samantha ran towards her but she was held back by the guy who just scanned her. "Where the hell are you going? Get on the shuttle." Samantha pushed him away and went back to Emilia. "I am staying with you then..."

 

"What? Samantha you have to go.. it's dangerous. It's for your own good! You need to go!" Emilia argued with Samantha.  Their argument was broken when one of the shuttle's was shot down. A ship flew past the burning shuttle that was still in mid air before collapsing towards the ground. A voice was heard over a inter-com. "DO NOT FEAR. WE ARE THE GRINEER. WE WILL PUT A STOP TO THESE INFECTIONS. WE WILL BRING A END TO THIS CHAOS."
