Losing ranks on Warframes.

Hello,

I have had 2 warframes go down in level/rank in the last 2 days. 

Ivara was I believe 29 or 30 and Trinity was 30. 

Ivara went completely to 0 and Trinity to 10. I'm confused. 

Is this a game mechanic I'm not noticing?

Since you didn't mention, gotta ask: did you use any kind of forma on them during that time?

 

Also did you see those ranks in your orbiter and after a while it went to rank 0... or are you saying you lost xp during a mission, where you saw your frame being maxed and after extraction it was not maxed anymore?

I did use forma also, yes regarding seeing them in my orbiter and after a while t went to rank 0. The other may apply but I did not take notice. 

Trinity also fell through the world at Earth doing a free roam run for mats. I was on my archwing.

Well then ... there ya go :P

That's what a Forma does - after adding / changing a Polarity, it resets your item to unranked.
