Somebody get banned every day and made a thread about it here. So why not do this?

Recommended Posts

Since most of them are because of curses in chats, why not make a bot who takes screenshot about the thing that made them get banned.

Or if screenshot is too complicated, make a bot that copy whatever message that get them banned, and paste it on their ban massage.

on xxx date xxx hours you wrote: "[insert their message and whatever curses they said]". Saying such things are prohibited in warframe, therefore your account will be banned until xxx time. Please contact support if you have further evidence that you'd like to be reviewed by our staff -[insert link to support].

I think although it need extra efforts, on the long run it might save us a lot of time -people in the forums, support guys at DE, and it might help DE to become a more transparent company.

I mean, these people still try to go to these forums and fight because they think they might still win. If the ban massages are BAM here's the proof! I believe at least half of them will accept the punishment.

Given one thread I read where someone whined "why was I banned" with a screenshot of their chat that eventually DE Rebecca posted a comment "support will indeed look over the disgusting things you said in Region chat that I see in our logs that you decided to leave out". I think these players know exactly why they have been banned but are trying it on to get un-banned by the court of public outrage.

Oh I forgot about that one.

Exactly. If those logs are used as evidence in every ban messages, then everytime someone whines on these forums, we can all just ask "oh yeah? You're innocent? Then let's see your ban message"

Bans that are caused by illegal currency, account sharing, etc can be quite complicated. But bans that are caused by using profanities shouldn't be. You say the words, you get banned.

I don't think we want to repeat the disgusting things someone said on chat for all to see, solely becuase we are too nosy to mind our own business? Support knows, the player knows, the forum threads are pointless posturing by them, and has nothing to do with any reason for ban - for thaty, they can ask support and I'm told will get the answer.

Its not up to DE to put any extra effort into proving why a ban happened. Every single one of them knows exactly what they did. If they're so curious they can raise a Support Ticket and find out.

Any extra effort should have come from the persons Parents, teaching them manners and how to be a decent human being. They already failed miserably and we can't change the past. So let them live and learn and stew in their self-imposed frustration.

that's the thing, nobody wants to repeat disgusting things that someone said on chat. and that's exactly -and the more reason why i suggested this.

  1. nobody wants to repeat disgusting things that someone said on chat. including the offender. that's why when the forums ask "oh yeah? You're innocent? Then let's see your ban message", they'll be most likely to immediately drop it. i'm suggesting a question that will stop every single one of these people.
  2. if the task is delegated to a bot, nobody needs to point fingers at anyone. bot only copy paste what it sees. and the only person who should ever see those words are the offenders when they got the ban message.

basically it's the same thing as what we have right now. but if game devs point out what exactly players done wrong, they'll be more likely to learn a lesson, instead of just get pissed and try to rally others to get pissed together. or at the very least, get discouraged to try defending what they've done wrong.

i swear some of these guys are getting smarter and more creative as time goes by. i've seen threads where the banned person actually managed to convince some people that they've done nothing wrong, and provoked others to believe DE is just an evil company that randomly swings the banhammer "because they can". as we all know, blaming DE is really easy around these forums. i've seen some members here that genuinely believe that anyone can get banned for absolutely no reason at all -because DE.

so yeah, even if it's not for you or me, or the offenders, i genuinely think that at least DE should consider more transparency to make the company look better.

I guess you're asking for the ban message to be updated with some copy from chat logs. As someone who has never been banned I don't know if that is the case already, but I imagine not. I do imagine the ban message will contain the advice to contact support, and then they can get the details.

A ban message that says "you said something we cannot repeat" will not change anything from today's situation, so you end up having to show exactly what they said - and that's obviously not acceptable. "Then lets see your ban message" cannot be acceptable either. Will they learn? No - that's exactly why they post here, they did wrong and they think they can wheedle out of the consequences.

The moment you do open the forums up to such criticism of support, you will end up having to show the details, and that will only fan the flames. So the forums do the right thing already by sending any such players to support and closing the thread.

That's part of the problem too. Tell some person that's determined to be a jerk exactly what letters in what order they got booted for and that makes it easier for them to substitute just enough to try and bypass the filter again. Yes there can be some false positives and that is unfortunate. I had a friend that got a week long boot for something that they weren't being offensive if the context was properly parsed, but unfortunately the message was taken on its own and looked like it could have been a purposeful typo of something offensive. Ping support if one really think that's what happened.

But it's not hard to just not be a jerk.

While I do agree there are things you just don't say on a public platform (like racial slurs), this IS an M-Rated game; so using mature language (as long as it's not directed at someone for malicious purposes) shouldn't be an issue IMO.

Heck, I've gotten my message deleted because I used the term "ESO" in reference to Elite Sanctuary Onslaught. I was explaining to a guy in Q&A chat info about it, and my message got deleted and it said "That isn't an appropriate topic for our game."

I guess the mod thought I was talking about Elder Scrolls Online.

to be honest, part of the reason why i even suggest this is because i want some sense of security for myself. sounds really selfish, i know.
because i don't swear, i don't argue with people on random chat, so if i ever get banned one day, i want to know why.

gentleman above me have given the perfect example. people can be falsely accused in warframe.
if bots are the ones who do the patrol, it means DE have to set specific set letters into the code. the rules will be set on stone, not made up on the fly by humans who can make mistakes.

but judging from the replies at least in this thread, i think the community mostly already agree on "if you don't want to get banned, simply don't say the wrong things". kinda hard to point out in a game where saying "eso" isn't appropriate, but well... it is what it is. i guess i'll just stay off chats altogether just to be safe

anyway, i'm glad i made this thread. who knows if a DE staff stumble on this one day and think it can be a good idea.

Warframe's censorship and moderation are excessive and nonsensical. Why don't DE employees send themselves on unpaid vacations every time they curse or make jokes on devstreams?

That is an arguably valid point. However, shouldn't everyone who claims to be an a adult act like one?

To be pointedly clear: it is the mark of a child that they can not control themselves or their tongue. It is the mark of an adult that they can censor themselves, act demure, and comport themselves with even a common courtesy.

If grown men and women would not talk (or chat as it were) like alcoholic teenagers who just found their father's pornography stash, we would not be having this conversation.

Jokes exist. Acting childish is often for jokes. Additionally, the issue is less the blatantly horrible people (who in severe cases deserve a ban) and more the people who get kicked, banned, etc because a chat mod is feeling a type of way or because they misread. Most of the time, people should get at least 1 warning before getting a 2035 ban. Give people a chance to improve.

How about the Warframe game client itself include the bot's own filter? That way, the Warframe game client can just prevent the user from sending unruly text in the first place! The bot never sees the text and then the user posts here on the forums about how Warframe refused to send her/his text to the channel... then one of two possible things happens:

  • Everyone laughs at how lame the Warframe filter is because some insulting word from <language> is in a word in the text but everyone remarks at how the Warframe client ultimately protected the user from being banned by the Kickbot.
  • Owing to being raised by wolves, the poster doesn't realize that a word he/she used was insensitive and gets a warning/banned on the forums.

I like this idea.

One doesn't simply go from living with wolves in the forest (or caustic environment) to instantly knowing how to use a PC, get online, and play a game or participate in a forum among strangers and more of the public at large.

I wasn't speaking about  acting childish. And offensive humor is no excuse for foul (or even childish) behavior. I'm sure we can at least agree on that point. :)

I am not suggesting anything other than that people should govern themselves and abide by the agreement they have entered into. It seems pretty clear that the  "I didn't know that was offensive," arguments are fabricated or are the one in a million (so to speak) legitimate cases). Hardly enough strength there to build a good argument.

And while I don't know if I agree or not with your suggestion of a free warning to everyone. It does at least open the door to one free offense (of some degree) from every user. I don't think DE could possibly say that everyone gets one free pass in writing for that reason alone.
