what do you think about octavia prime?

Recommended Posts

I played her "seriously" for the first time. i can also see immediately that a lot has been thought about and a lot of interesting things have been built in: different melodies, ways of playing, synergies and much more.

what I don't like at all is this pointless "keep EVERYTHING on CD" ... all skills have synergies! and instead of concentrating on fights or creating buffs, I have to constantly control which skill is running out .... you can do it more easily: fourth skill active? then all other activated skills have an infinite duration ... has four skill expired? then skills from 1 to 3 have normal duration and expire. unless four skill is reactivated ........

and as a supporter she hardly convinces me. wisp does it much better. at the moment I play (rather test) her like this:
duration: 226%
eff: 45%
range: 106%
strength: 298%

Octavia is an OP frame but one of the most boring to play imo. Like you said, you spend more time micro managing your cooldowns than you do engaging in the fight.

There are so many more interesting frames to play that I'd rather not play a frame where spamming crouch and watching abilities timers are my main objectives.

I'll get her, eventually, it will be a rank and forget situation.

Every single frame since Octavia, I've usually had building on the day of release, but I can't be less excited.

Also, I don't know where the mass oppinion that she's OP comes from, the only situation in which she would outdo other frames is a solo long afk-survival, in literally every other game mode she's outdone by conventional nukes or melee spam.

Confused with second paragraph, describes xaku abilitys in regards to infinite duration. Are you wanting that for octavia?

idd he does
she will be even more broken than she is now if this is true...and I don't mid it :D

I go for higher duration and range and barely any strength. 50 seconds is long enough to shoot enemies before pressing a button again.

Every frame has some ability you have to keep pressing, and even melee and shooting requires multiple button presses.

It's almost like you're playing a videogame....

But I know.....PC players love looking for ways to auto pilot and not play videogames.

The whole perma invis infinite scaling damage thing is something no other frame has so i guess that's OP in the proper setting, long campy endurance runs. Then you have Vauban who also has scaling damage. With his cc abilities and easy 100% armor strip is excels at long campy endurance runs just like Octavia. He's a more versatile frame but no one is claiming he's OP.

I know where you are coming from, but it feels like the cooldowns have deliberately been created to mimic some "activity" with the frame so it feels engaging to play her. But they kinda failed for me, because you need to have 1+2+4 active all the time anyway (there are some instances where you only want 1, but I feel that mobs are barely attacking the mallet if 2 is not active as well) and recasting the buffs for 3 is very unfun and super annoying. I think it would have been better if 1+2 were put together into one ability, the free slot is the command from the augment and the buffs from 3 will last as long as you remember recasting the ability for your team in time.

So it would look like this:

Ability 1: Command the ball to go whereever you point to

Ability 2: Mallet + Ball - maybe only the mallet if you hold the ability and the range from the old 4 should be included in the ability itself

Ability 3: Everyone can buff themselves, but the buffs run as long as the ability and when Octavia remembers to recast in time, the buffs stay all the time

Ability 4: Ability 2 and 3 go on steroids, 3 doubles the buffs for the remaining time of 4 and the ball taunts everyone and gets bigger and bigger and will explode if time runs out or if you reccast the ability

Agreed on all fronts.  In fact, this whole prime access is about the least interesting one I can think of.  I've been playing since Limbo Prime, for perspective.  It's got the teabag & egg-timer queen for a frame (yawn), yet another bland prime assault rifle that has a slower, stronger alternate fire (how novel), and then what I imagine is a semi automatic pistol?  I ranked the original pandero and immediately sold it.  It was utterly forgettable, like the kraken, marelok, and however many other underwhelming secondaries we have.

I get that not everything can be another release-state Catchmoon or current state Kuva Nukor, but it feels like the only area where any effort was put in was the appearance.  Both Tenora and Pandero Prime look gorgeous.

The saddest thing about this prime access is that it didn't come with an Octavia rework, to make her a true music frame instead of the aftermarket mess that she is.  I know other frames are weaker than her and need reworks to bring them up to effectiveness (Hydroid...), but Octavia's current state is really embarrassing.  Unreadable buff spam.  Egg-timer abilities with minimal player thought or strategy involved, just MAINTAIN.  Thorns damage... ick.  And to get the most out of her music, you are basically required to mute it.  Now her best hope for a marketable rework is when she gets unvaulted, and that's years from now.

power pose from end of her trailer is needed as emote, and prime skin exclusive animation where she play music on her body strings, other then that, just octavia with a slight stat boost somewhere and energy gain from death orbs.

what do you think about octavia prime?

I'll let you know when RNG stops being a tool.

Not sure about a wheel from the old disco ball, saw one in the sorti tonight, I'll get use to it I guess when I get it.

I think Octavia as a whole is a great example of interesting concept, but sub-par execution. I can't even say that I actively HATE Octavia, I just.. feel so indifferent about her that I can't be bothered to play as her. the fact that DE almost never payed any attention to the Mandachord didn't really help matters either.

btw apparently a large part of the community shares that opinion, her price dropped to about 100p in a day even when her parts aren't the easiest to get
Most other prime releases kept the price at about 200-300 for at least 4-5 days from the get go... this is just so sad for me, because I love to play her.
My problem with her is very very different - there is no content that requires me to get to her, kinda like nidus. Very strong frame that you have to go on purpose for 2-5 hours survivals to get how powerful they are. And with the shield gating, helminth etc I can literally go with any frame and do this (except inaros of course, they nerfed his health gating cat and he is once again trash :D ).
So she and nidus are frames for a content that doesn't exist, the frames are not the problem , the lack of "hard" content is imo.

It's just for active playing, which many don't like. That's ok I like to play a frame I can tune out too as well, but there's 45 frames for a reason.

Having a "main" is really silly in the game because it seems designed to make you play more than 1 frame. Or at least give you the option to try a buncha stuff out for different situations.

Octavia is a very well crafted frame, and it's hard to for people to nitpick near perfection, whereas with Frost everyone has a lot of stuff to say.

If most people's feedback is "I have to press buttons and she's boring", then it might be time to go help another frame become better.

A lot of frames have their own "egg timers". Gara with her 2, having to watch frosts bubble health, khoras dome, limbos dome, ivaras energy drain, energy for many channeled abilities when you get into higher levels, rhinos iron skin, nezhas iron skin lol etc.

Many online games have a "rotation" where you're watching a sequence of things to refresh or maintain.

What does pc or console have to do with octavia's gameplay? Pretty broad generalization there.

I noticed this too. I was farming Octvia Prime waiting for it to be listed on wf market and by the time you were able to list there it wasn't even worth farming or selling. Nezha did good. I was selling 200-300 for days. It was easy farm for relics too since there was no axi.

Very unique character among musical inspired games I have ever played in my life time.

I used to play her non-stop because I like hearing Another One Bites the Dust whenever I went out to kill with the widest range possible. There was a time when setting self/ally mandachord toggle off was criminal. But static heavy gameplay, albeit very strong, with so much micromanaging grew out on me.

Having to play her now as prime feels nostalgic than anything else.

If you aren't aware, some pc players love asking "is it ok to use this third party program to play an aspect of the game for me so I don't have to?"

Some people, as shown in this thread, think watching a 30 to 60 second timer is too much to handle, and the OP literally asked for an infinite timer.....

Some PC players have these things called "Macros" that execute a set of commands for you as well. I personally used them when I played Final Fantasy.

Then you had the people that sat in a cubby hole in Steel path Ophelia, then had the audacity when called out on it, say "we're not even doing that anymore....we're doing odin now".

Console players don't have the same access to third party programs and macros that PC players do.

If this is too long before you get into it, itś me explaining a more active playstyle, how her abilties work for the most part, and how you should probably mod her along with what weapons to use. I also posted this in players helping players if you'd rather see it there.

My thoughts on her? The Octavia Prime fellas are getting annoying to say the least, I mained her for two months probably and it pains me to see them using that dumb disco ball with the default song. I try to tell new Octavia players that she isn't boring, too many people just play her as a stationary DJ and that's fine n all. But I recommend not using her for defense as much as people would tell you that you need to. She isn't a defense frame, she's a aoe/buff frame, "same thing" well no not really. If you play her as defense you'll find yourself bored and wondering why you chose to use a music based frame. You should have primed flow, energy siphon, not too high of duration, decent efficiency, good range, and strength you can just ignore. Primed flow lets you be able to use her 4th ability often with saved energy, energy siphon combined with her energy regen passive makes for some decent efficiency/energy return, and the duration should be a bit up but at 130-145% is perfect. 150ish range is perfect so the regular stretch mod is what you want, but you can put primed if you wanna be fancy.

Use her 1st ability as a timed grenade, play Mot with her and toss that bad boy in the middle of a group of enemies and watch them disintegrate(she can take down lvl 40 enemies at level 15 with 0 mods fyi). Use her 2nd ability rarely, most Oct players would say never, but it comes in use sometimes on maps that aren't designed with a huge area or clogged spaces(think Kuva ship) and that little ball will hunt them down. Her 3rd ability should be used mostly for the speed and invisibilty, activate it when you and ya boys are running to extraction or trying to escort a rescue mission, simply bullet jumping should activate it if your melody is constant. Now, her 4th ability works based on the ambient sound, but in reality it works best from the sound made from your abilities. Her and her allies damage are increased by quite a bit, you can get if even higher with strength if you want, I keep mine at 130% and it gives me a 260% boost. But honestly? Don´t worry too much about that aspect of the ability, worry about using it with your 1st ability, since it increases itś range by a f**k ton. Power isn´t needed much since her damage scales from the enemies, thats why she can take out level 40 when sheś barely level 15, because the damage your 1st ability causes is reflected damage.

Imma try to go more in depth of her abilities and honestly Iḿ not sure if you need this but if someone else does maybe theyĺl like it. Her 1st ability has saved damage, lemme explain this. The very first time you toss it down in a mission it causes 0 damage, but if an enemy shoots it, it saves damage from the damage it recieves and saves it, it then reflects that damage back on every beat of the percussion. If you have less beats in percussion then they do more damage per beat, if you have more beats in percussion it does less damage per beat. In simple, it divides saved damage between beats of your percussion. Also, if it has overkill damage, that saved damage that wasn´t used the previous time you used her 1st ability will be reflected the next time you toss it down. So then if you have saved damage from your last use and toss it near enemies it will do damage before the enemies even start shooting it, usually this saved damage is small but noticable.

Now weapons, she has her own weapons now so use those : ). But if not use a good 1 shot weapon, think shotgun or bow, because often times theres some cheeky grineer who is shooting you from outside your abilities range, basically they aren´t being affected. Use your shotgun/bow to pick off the stragglers who aren´t being affected by your ability. Everything else is up to preference. You can find songs that work well if youŕe in sync, but honestly songs that have a constant melody work best for her buffing, the other two sounds can be preference, just turn her melody volume down so it wont be annoying. Now that the melody is constant it will be 10x easier to activate the buffs. Fyi each ability uses different sound sections of a song. 1st ability/percussion, 2nd ability/bass, 3rd abilty/melody, 4th ability/uses other ability sounds or ambient sounds.

She's Octavia--and a bit more. Not much else to say.

I mean, it's Octavia.

She's not appropriate for every mission type, but if you hum a few bars she can generally fake it.

Visually...I did expect something a bit more baroque than what we got. She looks pretty good, however, and it definitely stays in theme.

I'm new to Warframe for the most part, but I feel like Octavia sort of breaks my immersion in the Warframe universe. The game portrays this gritty, brutal, and unforgiving setting, and to have a frame that seems to be designed so frivolously seems odd to me. It doesn't fit into the overall theme: "We're fighting against unrelenting foes, to protect the final shreds of humanity, but DANCEDANCEDANCE!"

That said, my opinion has no bearing on the frame's performance or effectiveness, so let that be what it is.

I know what a macro is. Just because they exist doesn't mean pc players are looking for a way to auto pilot games and not play them though. I play on PC and have never used a macro in this game. I have for other games but there is no need to in WF. I actually play with a controller. This game just feels good on a controller to me.

The whole pc vs. console thing is old af and played out. I love playing games console and pc. I have like seven different consoles and a pc. Just because I'm playing WF on pc doesn't mean I was a wall whipping afk Khora in ophelia or tbag spam Octavia. You were just making broad generalizations based on assumptions and access to macros.

I use Octavia for soloing open world bounties. On Cetus she comes with a Rubico, on Fortuna with an Opticor, on Deimos with an Ignis. Comfortable and easy to use. No hectic, no stress. Grofit.

Why should I vote for a change of her kit?

I don't think the cheap price has anything to do with popularity, they just made her super common for a prime, not sure why.

Maybe they figure she is popular enough a lot of people will just buy PA anyways?

Cause it's like, two common relics, one uncommon and one rare to get her full set right? Easy peasy.

Octavia Prime is hardly a grind even for a really casual player.
