And it's not wrong. I'll take damage as example. You can put mods that adds +X damage like Primed point black. You can add critical chance mods that randomly may give you another xN damage. You can put viral mods that adds viral status that makes enemies "less healthy". Again it's increase in damage.

It's the same with melees. You can talk about one thing without talking about another.

DE talked about nerfing speed, but in the same sentence they said the max modded/arcane speed was more than 300% (citation needed/I don't remember). We can't effectively mash melee attack as fast as it is available.

With "follow through" the melee version of punch through and added range, the maxed melee speed shouldn't even be a problem. Why attack one enemy 20 hits per second when you can hit five enemies at 10 hits per second?

That's what you meant.

Yeah, range is will affect how many enemies you hit however there are problems with that:

 - there aren't many range mods (3, 4 counting prime version,  Motus Impact, (Prime) Reach and Spring-Loaded Blade) so you to may want to use rivens or

- abilities (like Nidus' Larva) that groups enemies

 

Speed has many more mods or abilities.

yeah but it should be obvious why range doesn't have the same level of buffing as speed, because it can provide way higher potential for clearing rooms. not only that but range can reign the effectiveness of attack speed way more than attack speed can for range.
