Are Briefcase weapons "more than just animation"?

I've seen in last devstream new "sword and shield" weapon behaves not like current "sword and shield" weapons. They could wield gun & shield at the same time.

Is it some sort of "dual wielding" (melee's shield + some gun) or form of gunblades (melee that shoot). Or is it just some sort of animation and doesn't play role in gameplay?

 

ps. I'm asking in case I missed something - it might not yet revealed.

That just looks like the shield's stowed state. Every shield has that; when you don't have the shield equipped, they fold up a bit but stay on your arm, with the "sword" attached to the inside.

No, the shield is simply attached to the arm when not wielded, as is standard.

The only "gun+melee" combos possible currently involve glaive-type melees and single-gun sidearms (Glaive Prime + Bronco Prime, for example.)
I don't think DE will add any other combinations, though something like sword and gun (Dakra Prime + Kulstar for example) would be nice.
