An Alternative To Helmet Stats

In my opinion, the cosmetic warframe helmets should have never had stats tied to them. The current system encourage players to use certain beneficial helmets, regardless of whether or not they like the appearance. Certain (really cool looking) helmets are downright unviable because of bad stat tradeoffs (such as stamina bonuses at the cost of a devastating flaw, like a power duration penalty on Vauban).

So here is my 4-step suggestion for success.

Step 1: Make all alternate helmets cosmetic-only.

The Raknis Nekros helmet was a great start.

Step 2: Use an "Asset and Flaw" System

This system, inspired by Fire Emblem: Awakening, allows you to pick one strength and one weakness for your warframe, defining your playstyle. To have a bonus, you must accept a downside, but you may choose to be neutral - with no bonus or penalty.

With this system, you can pick one strong and one weak stat, depending on your frame.

You can freely change your asset and flaw in the Armory.

Step 3: Customize the selection of selectable assets and flaws by frame

Obviously, Power Strength Flaw on Loki would be too good - as Power Strength only benefits a situational effect on his Disarm.  Customize the available assets and flaws for each frame to avoid no-brainer choices.

Step 4: Based on balance feedback after the system is released, tweak the % bonuses/penalties for each asset/flaw.

Stamina max would probably require a higher penalty as a flaw than Movement Speed, for example, as the latter is a stronger stat.

Absolutely against only cosmetic items.

A toggle stat active/inactive button for each helmet would work too. Especially if get we more armor parts like gloves or torso armor.

This game needs customization. And limiting it only to flaws and bonuses would make it too simple.

Except that helmets ARE currently limited to flaws and bonuses. All this system does is remove the (ridiculous) association of these customization options from a skin and place them in an independent feature that is more flexible and less limiting.

You want more customization but no cosmetic items? Wouldn't combining items and flaws/bonuses freely allow more customization/individualization?

Also +1

I think I suggested something similar, so yup! +1 Would be nice to pick the penalties and perks. DE said though they didnt wanna Reneg on the stuff they already put out though for the people who went and paid money or earned it legitly.

Nope.

Step 1: Remove stats from helmets

Step 2: Run script to give every player that has an alternate helmet an item similar to the dragon keys that gives the same effect as the helmets previously had. Only one of these can be equipped at the same time.

Oh look! Now we have cosmetic only helmets without removing the effects that have been there for months.

Step 3: Go forward with adding new cosmetic only helmets, as well as adding new items that give a warframe unique benefit/negative.

There's no reason to add a needlessly complex system copied from a different game to solve an issue that already has a solution right in front of us.

(ridiculous)

If you wear a big thick hat to protect your brain from traumatic injury, you're probably going go sacrifice some vision.

If you wear a lightweight little cap, you'll be a bit more nimble, but you're going to get your skull seriously wrecked if you're hit.

(It works like that, but with space technology instead of giant metal hats.)

edit: Also vanity slots too appease the dress-up artists who appreciate glamour but not meaningful choice.

DEs problem is that hey add completely useless stats to helmets like -duration and + stamina for vauban, but if we had more specialized items that e.g. give nekros' soul punch an AoE, while decreasing shadows of the dead number by 6, we are talking. Also, there will probably be more equippable items than helmets, like new legs or torso armor. If all this would be purely cosmetic DE kills different build options. An on/off switch for stats on armor would be a way better solution for everyone, as we decide then if we only want a cosmetic item or one with impact on our playstyle.

NO. I like my added power range on my Coil Mag Helm with a little drain on shields.

Some helmets are ugly, some have useless stats. If we ever get more customization options there will be some ugly/useless ones among them.

You will always be forced to take helmet/ltorso/panty x to get best/preferable stat y. So even with more options you would still see clones everywhere.

An on/off switch would help, but people are still more likely to choose a good bonus/tradeoff over nothing/bad tradeoff.

Imagine your Warframe armory and among the scarf/helmet/badge/panty options is another button where you could select normal/coil/gauss statset. You could eg choose more ability range for less shields. There's the impact on your playstyle and you're not that likely to meet another Mag with the exact same helmet as yours.

That's a nice idea. Something like corrupted abilities?

I had that in a thread I made once: https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/112515-stats-on-helmets/#entry1303319 ^_^
